He hasn't done anything mind blowing which is a real indictment of Amorim and the decision to hire Amorim even moreso. I honestly didn't expect the turnaround to be this stark. Part of it has come down to good fortune (the non red on Dalot against City, the red against Romero today), part of it is the underperformance relative to xG being whittled away (were missing sitters a few months ago and then Dorgu and Cunha score goal of the month candidates on the same day at Arsenal). He has the luxury of being able to play the same starting 11 every game because there are so few games left for the club. Will be interesting to see what he does at West Ham on 3 days rest...and West Ham have started playing better recently. Could be on a 4 game winning streak if they hadn't blown a 2-0 HT lead at Chelsea.
But it's only 4 games. No need to make a decision now. Team could crap the bed at West Ham and go on a 4 game winless streak for all we know. I'm of the opinion that if he scrapes CL football by finishing 4th or 5th, United will thank him for job done and gladly move on to hiring someone else in the summer. If he qualifies convincingly (i.e. 3rd or 4th by a significant margin over 6th), he'll make it tough for Ratcliffe and Co. If he gets them in 2nd/3rd and relatively close to Arsenal (like 6-9 points), I think they'll have no choice but to offer him a permanent deal. Maybe something relatively short though...a 2 year contract would he a good hedge.
