It wasn't that hard to piece together that he was trying to float himself for the Indiana job. And I'll say it again that the Wade jersey ceremony absolutely reeked of a coach that thought they were on their way out.

I still think it's like 50/50. Again, he's obviously looking to jump, but someone has to want him, and want him at a price he's willing to take.

Texas A&M’s Buzz Williams trying to get involved in Maryland if/when it opens, source told @TheFieldOf68.

The only way you get Beard is if he just wants to try to ruin Texas. And he takes the job out of spite for the Longhorns. Aggies would love it. I don't think he comes here though.TxAg76 said:BLSmith04 said:

Jans is interesting....seems to be one of those that does more with less....
Beard on the other hand, he's t.u. alumni....and i'm betting he'll either stay put or seek other jobs long before entertaining A&M.
Being alumni somewhere doesn't always play a factor....but in Beard's case, it might.
Best you could hope for is that he's maybe got some animosity toward t.u. now? Of which he may listen to us, just to stab t.u. right in the eyeball...
I'd love it if that were the case....but i seriously doubt that's the case....

So is Buzz recruiting the portal for his current job at A&M or for his potential new job?

I think Jans would do well here and I think we could get him. I'm not certain his ceiling is a whole lot higher than Buzz's, but he is very much a high floor guy.
Its higher than 10%, he's gotta actually get himself hired somewhere. If Maryland doesn't hire him, who will?zgolfz85 said:
I mean, what are we thinking the odds of keeping buzz are now? 10%?
If the Goodman tweet is legit, and he's rarely not, he's gone…and I don't think I'd want a coach asking to get out anyways…even if it means a painful reset.

Not saying I disagree, but curious your reasoning?
His teams are tough as hell and his last two seasons they played very differently (defense forward in '23, more offense forward in '24), but had basically identical seasons. I'd be willing to bet the apparent ceiling they've hit is more MSU related than Jans, but curious what makes you prefer him?

I dont think the checkbooks are going to open at New Mexico, Drake, and I dont think UNT, Oral Roberts, Navy, Fordham, Drake, Denver, Bryant, Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, or Arkansas State are options, nor will any of those schools hire from a school that would create an opening.
Basically his options right now are sneak in front of Kevin Willard at Villanova, get the Maryland job if Willard leaves, or hope Maryland hires someone away from a school that can afford to replace their departed coach with Buzz Williams.

And for the record, those are valid comments. Why don't our fans show for those gamesLouisvilleAg said:GymBroFisher said:Buzz cries about tweets all the time, not sure where you got that he didn't complain.LouisvilleAg said:cs69ag said:
Wonder why blue blood KU Turgeon did not work at Maryland?
Must have complained about the attendance when he was losing??
I live in MD and, yeah, he complained a lot. Eventually, the fanbase told him to f off. Kind of like what Willard is doing now. Buzz will do well there because he doesn't generally complain. Just #getbetter.
Of note, I lived in Kentucky when Gillespie went to Kentucky. Lived in Maryland when Turgeon went to Maryland. And i still live in Maryland..
He doesn't complain about facilities or attendance to the public.
I mentioned him in a couple threads as well. It is a big gamble, but I'd be more willing to give him his shot than some of the other small school coaches I'm not sold on.Agmaniacmike12 said:
Chris Jans is a great coach. I know that people are going to scoff at this one because of Earley's struggles, but Luke Murray has been an assistant for Chris Mack and Danny Hurley for most of his career, would not be opposed to giving him a shot.
According to Google, Jans is already making $4.2M/year. Why would he come here? We can't (and shouldn't) pay him anything enough above that to get his attention.Topher17 said:I mentioned him in a couple threads as well. NEW: Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams will try to get involved if the Maryland job opens, @GoodmanHoops reports.

We've proven for a century that we can't.

Buzz should definitely not be the bar. We barely average Top 40 recruiting classes.zgolfz85 said:Topher17 said:

Serious question.
