Much of the unpopularity is self-inflicted. It's going to be more amped up after this fiasco.

I don't care if people think he doesn't want to be here or believe his personality is abrasive and annoying. The guy can recruit and win games, and that's a relatively uncommon thing with Aggie basketball.

I hope we don't get on the coaching carousel again.

Do the majority of Ags even pay attention to this stuff when it comes to basketball?

I'd think most outside of Texags even know that buzz is looking around

At this point, let's just hope that Maryland goes Buzz. Because of they don't, then the school that lost their coach will hire Buzz. And if they don't, then that school will hire Buzz. Just need this to happen sooner than later.

I think there are a limited number of schools that have the ability to pay a coach $4.6M/year and amongst those that need a coach, they aren't looking for a Buzz Williams. I doubt he's going to take a pay cut, so he's stuck here.

He might be willing to take a small annual paycut with another school for a longer term deal after the 2026 or 2027 seasons, but right now it just doesn't work with 3 years left on his contract.

He's done it before, but agree that he's unlikely to do it now.

looks like we're stuck with the soft coach who tried quitting on his school and players, and was forced to come back because nobody else wanted him yay us…

It would be comical if it wasn't so pathetic. As for Buzz, I don't know what motivates the man. But this is a bad look for him. It's tough to be a sage, guru life coach after coming across as a snake oil salesman like this.

Probably why nobody wants to pick him up either. Everybody knows he's gonna look for a way out.

Oddly enough, this may have been a moment where he could have used an agent. Because now we know it's all him.

I don't think Buzz is being a snake oil salesmen. He is trying to get out in front of the hot seat. Somebody made it clear his seat was hot. Which I think is nuts.

He wanted an extension when the team was at their apex during the regular season and was told no or not yet. Since then he's thrown his hat in everywhere that is open. And his seat isn't even hot if he had loyalty towards the university that employs him. But as mentioned, his loyalty begins and ends with the people inside his program and circle.

Self-inflicted, like recruiting like crap and averaging Top40 classes. Plus awful offenses.

Holy sh*t. Lol. Buzz recruits awful. Do you even follow the program? His recruiting classes average like #35 on average.

His other option is getting fired next offseason. The fact he's trying to save us a buyout is reason enough to not cry about Buzz trying to get out. He's doing us a favor.

Why do you think we'd fire him next year when we can't fire him this year? What's a $15M buyout if you're gonna pay $10M?

He's not going us a favor because we weren't firing him, and we aren't going to now either.

He's hurting the program because we can't fire him due to not wa ting to pay the buyout and we can't hire a new coach because he's still employed here. We need a new roster.

He's screwing us right now unless Maryland hires someone quickly, either him or not him.

That is nothing to our BOR. They could raise that with 2 phone calls. We have money pouring out of us. We just spend it like a teenager.

I don't think it is worth questioning those who want to fire him this year or next year. They aren't really thinking about the financial implications of that.

As I pointed out in another thread there are no grounds to fire him without paying a stiff buyout unless there is a negotiated settlement of some type. Not sure that is in the cards.

If Buzz really wants to leave, then all we can do is thank him for his work here and hope it works out for him ' while preparing to bring in his replacement (i doubt a big name, established, winning coach - but, who knows?).

At this point the bigger question might be - if Maryland decides not to hire him and no other bigger job pops up (like sudden retirement of Michigan State coach - which, even if Buzz is not a direct candidate to replace Izzo could set in motion a sequence of events that might open up other good jobs) - would Buzz come back to coach the Aggies next year AND could such a return be anything but a strange and ultimately negative situation for the Aggies?

On the other hand, as was postulated in another post, could our AD allow Buzz to "save face" by announcing some big (or even modest) increase in NIL support for Men's Basketball to help rebuild the team from the Portal THIS YEAR and then allow Buzz to claim that all the smoke about him trying to get the heck outta Dodge was simply a negotiating tactic to ultimately improve NIL support from the Athletic Department?

So, we have a coach who doesn't want to be here that no one will take, but we won't buy him out. Great.

You did say that.

And I thought that, if he left, it would NOT be to take a different job, but would rather be to retire and become a life coach or teacher or motivational speaker.

Not surprising I suppose, but I think we're making too big of a deal out of this. Its just typical coaching business. He'll likely be back, small chance he wont. Its entertaining but the situation is not some kind of dire awkward situation. Its probably more like the typical situation for most programs.

I also think we're getting a decent shake from the national folks. Making it sound like it's as much or more a him problem than an us problem.
