Technically yes, but I was more just meaning as it relates to football vs basketball. When you think of the East coast states that are huge football states, it's truly the southern states … Florida, Georgia, South Carolina.
Maryland is East Coast and historically "part of the south" but it's near DC and also places that have really rich basketball history - Georgetown, UNC, Duke, UVA, Villanova, etc.
So I've always thought - oh yeah, Maryland is in that part of the east coast that is big on basketball, so it must be an elite historical program … but it's just not (compared to what I casually think.).

Buzz is a very very good coach. But to be successful at the highest level he will have to play the game with admin, donors, and NIL.
We won't hire a better coach. We may hire a better fund raiser. But based on the baseball hire, I'm very skeptical this AD can coordinate anything big much less successful

I felt strongly that BCG never should have left A&M given his personality.
He was a perfect fit here, had the fanbase interested in hoops for the first time I can remember and would have been a king here had he stayed.
Our fanbase loved him for taking us out of the doldrums
I fully believed it then and still believe it now that had he stayed at A&M he would have taken us to a final four.
I believe buzz to be a good fit here as well and believe he should stay because better days are ahead if he does.
However, I don't think it would be a huge mistake for him to take another job because his personality is much different than bcg's and he has shown he can handle different power conference jobs.

Totally agree on BCG. No way to know if he continues with the drinking issues if he'd stayed, but I think that UK disaster broke him. What could have been…

When have we ever been in the hunt? Maybe with Acie we had an outside shot if we got super hot.
A&M has made the ncaa tournament like 17 times if I remember right. And almost all came since BCG.

It really is remarkable how we've not made it past a sweet 16 with some of these teams. For a "non basketball school," which increasingly means less and less, we've had some absolute studs over the years.
In 1980 we took the eventual champs to OT. Had we won that game we matched up pretty favorably against LSU who would have been the elite 8 opponent. The year we lost to Memphis, I don't think we matched up well at all against tOSU. But those two teams would have, imo, been the teams with the best chances

Not sure how much of an advantage that would have been. I was there for those games. LSU brought a ton of fans with them
