Trev can talk to him, but he has no leverage. The only way to lock him down is to give him an extension, and does anyone really want to do that right now? I don't, and I like Buzz.

A&M isn't enough of a better job for Beard to leave Ole Miss unless he just hates it there and wants back to Texas for whatever reason.

With no agent, this clearly means Buzz himself or someone very very close to him has already reached out to Maryland or Goodman to get this out there.

Honestly that part wouldn't bother me either. I've always been a pretty big believer in just getting whoever the best guy at the time is and then worry about later when it's later. If he wins and leaves for a bigger job then we're still in a good spot as a program.

But again, he's in the first year of a new deal at Ole Miss paying $5M per so not only would you be looking at needing to raise that enough to convince him to come, you're also probably paying Ole Miss a pretty big buyout. I have absolutely zero confidence we'd be spending that kind of money on a basketball coach.

And that's even assuming our leaders would be okay with the hire after vetting that whole situation.

In Beards case hes also probably got assistants from Texas, I know Adams is there. "Oh no, a wife beater and a racist!"

I'm with you. I'm good with Buzz but now isn't time for an extension. For sure not, 3 years left on his deal.

Buzz says he doesn't have an agent, but somebody is feeding the media, so seems like a heart-to-heart with Trev makes sense. I also imagine in those circles Trev will have contacts that know if it's real or not.

Yes, Blackshear chose Florida. And you are right about Boots. He came from VT. My memory was no players followed, but Boots came from VT. Was he suspended or kicked off of Buzz's last team at VT? Boots was a great citizen and teammate here.

Yeah, its been clear he's wanted to move. There just have not been many openings that fit for him until this one.

It has been obvious for a long time he is an odd dude with an odd career. I'm really curious what exactly he wants in his career at this point. It does not feel like he's truly ever setting himself up to win big.

I figured he was honestly angling for an extension. And he probably would have gotten it with a Sweet 16 run.

Heck he still might get it, but I think with all the rumors about him wanting out and people wanting this team to go further, it will not go over well at all if A&M gives him an extension.

Buzz and his agent are trying to play A&M for an extension. He's likely getting told No so his agent is spreading all this noise.

Apparently this for over a month. Buzz was likely expecting to be negotiating from a position of strength for more years or more $ but his peak team here lost in the round of 32. That would mean he has revealed himself here and doesn't have another landing spot. Everyone now needs him to find another job.

This makes some sense

Maybe he was thinking he'd be able to push us for more salary, more nil and some upgrades, but when his te petered out fine the stretch and got bounced in round 2, he lost some leverage for sure.

Losing 2/3 to the sips didn't help either

I don't think he wants an extension. I think he wants to move.
