I have no idea of who A&M would hire if Buzz left. Absolutely no idea.

Chris Jans is #1 realistic candidate. If he says no, I have no idea where you go after that. Obviously you call people like McCasland, but he is going to say No. The top up and comers have taken new jobs already.

Yeah we could probably at least get McCasland a good raise.

What's your thinking on Hoiberg?

TERRIBLE!

Nebraska has no basketball history, so it might be a bit harsh, but he has had one good year. He didnt even make the Big Ten tournament this year. He has won 31% of his Big Ten games.

Why? The Nebraska job is terrible, but he was really good at Iowa State. Did he just forget how to coach?

He's not on my top list either, just thinking of potential down-the-line candidates and I think he's a pretty good coach.

It's not a "candy assistant loser mentality", it's Our Reality.

A&M has Not won National Championships in our Lifetime. I'm not ok with this.

Buzz has the opportunity for his 4th straight NCAA tournament appearance next year. In the History of Aggie Basketball, only 1 other guy has done this. I'm just saying I'm not ready to jump off the Buzz bandwagon.

Look at Tech. They went out and invested in hoops. All their ncaa greatness came this century but sure we are stuck in the suck forever and should thank our lucky stars Buzz is here to get us punked the first weekend!

You'll have an argument if A&M ever invests in hoops like tech and other programs have done.

Until then a coach delivering the results buzz has is pretty close to our ceiling. Our ceiling historically and now is sweet16 until proven otherwise

To say Nebraska has no basketball history is an understatement. They make us look like Kentucky.

And their NIL situation can't be that good, we took one of their better players.

Won 31% of his Big Ten games. Yeah Nebraska sucks at basketball, but 31% if terrible.

The 3 previous coaches at Nebraska...
Tim Miles won 40% of Big Ten games
Doc Sadler won 40% of Big Ten games
Barry Collier won 38% of Big Ten games

I would bet Nebraska has been spending virtually nothing on NIL for men's basketball.

Not advocating for him, but the last 5 years has made evaluating coaches purely by record so difficult.

That could also just be a product of the Big Ten being better though right?

Again I'm not saying we should definitely hire the guy, just brought him up because he has a connection to Trev Alberts obviously.

I think he fits the potential mold of one possible path this search could take, which is looking for coaches that were good at a previous stop, but haven't been as good at their current stop because something about the job is holding them back.

The other path is trying to find a coach that's either underpaid or at a power conference job even worse than ours, but not sure how many of those there are and if we even have the pockets to give them enough of a raise to get them.

Three low major candidates would be Bucky McMillian, Alan Huss, and Chris Gerlufsen. I don't see any mid-majors that are still available.

Maybe, maybe not. There's definitely a couple that have already agreed to jobs that I'd call and see if they've signed anything yet.

Maybe we could get someone to pull a Chris Beard.

The interesting thing to me is that texags staff has not come out and said anything at all about this Maryland rumor.

Does that mean it's completely made up?

Or does it mean it has legs and they are waiting to see if we can hold onto buzz before they say anything?
bobinator

Again, Buzz isn't like most coaches. The ship basically has no leaks.

I doubt anyone outside of Buzz's inner circle is going to have any idea what's happening until it's done.

If it's going to happen the leaks will be from the Maryland side.

I mean there is truth to him looking around, that's been Known for weeks. The Maryland stuff just seems to line up either way it. But nothing will happen till April first, even buzz buyout drops

I'm skeptical of Bucky Ball working at the power conference level.

I'd be interested in Huss if we can pair him with an assistant that can coach defense. Also would be interested to see if someone like Luke Murray would want the job. No head coaching experience yet, but almost everyone seems to have an extremely high opinion of him and he's often credited with UConn's offensive sets, which are things of beauty.

Willard's buyout also drops on 4/1 but I don't see how this situation is tenable for Maryland and Villanova.

-He isn't going to get an extension right now
-We aren't going to fire him because he's done a nice job
-The roster and culture is going to completely have to turn over and be re-built this year
-Buzz's decision on if he wants a longer term commitment right now somewhere else or if he wants to stay here and rebuild a a new team. If he stays he knows he'll need to produce quickly to get the next extension

Who knows. I've just been told by someone I trust to expect buzz to not return like four days ago. I guess we will see

Who besides Hodge fits this list for you? Hodgson? Can't imagine Pitino would choose A&M over Xavier.

To Marc's point, I think this is a job Jans would take over MSU. He clearly has a pretty high floor considering what he's done there.

It probably is better. But we are talking 10% difference in wins. So even if you account for the conference being better, I don't think he has improved the program from the previous guys except for one year they had the nice run and got to the tourney and then got crushed by A&M

Only way Hoiberg leaves Nebraska is if they fire him or he dies there(kinda joking). Fred's grandfather was HC of UNL Men's BB program. His father taught at UNL. Fred got a new aortic valve about 10 years ago.

Nebraska has never won a Tournament game. If Fred can win one, they'll dedicate a statue to him and have a permanent legacy at UNL.

I'm a Buzz supporter and will always be. I followed his HC career from day 1 and hoped he would come back to College Station. He's got "it". (Flame away)

Should Buzz leave/fired. Greg McDermott should be the target.

Maryland may not like it, but I can see the Nova AD telling Willard and his agent to sit tight for 4 days to save a couple million bucks. Of course our current AD fired a coach mid-season instead of waiting 3 weeks to save $7.5 million, so who knows.

he was just extend last year to 2028. I don't see Trev moving that out longer.

Maybe he gets a raise outta of it. But i don't see that either

They did lose Mast for the whole season before it even started though this year. I'm actually fairly impressed they went 7-13 without him. And one of his worst seasons was the covid year which I just throw out for everyone because the data is so flawed.

In this time where schools are cutting costs as much as they can, they sure as heck might. What does 3 days matter? He can start reaching out to recruits in the portal and selling himself and then in 3 days it just changes from come to Nova instead of Maryland.

I'm not sold on McDermott, though I like the style they play for this era.

His Iowa State teams were trash, and that's a place that can obviously win (as Hoiberg and Otzelberger showed.)

I think Hoiberg would definitely leave for the right job. I think he would leave for A&M too.

McDermott would be a great hire, I don't see how we could pull it off though.
