Yeah that's the other thing, is our job even better than Creighton? Especially with the revenue sharing model?

Iowa felt they had no chance at McDermott. Ohio St tried to hire him and give him a big pay raise and he said No. I think he is happy where he is.bobinator said:

depends. If Trev doesn't have anyone else lined up that's better. Wouldn't a small raise make sense?BraxtonW said:if we give him a raise, I will lose all hope.BQ_90 said:he was just extend last year to 2028. I don't see Trev moving that out longer.Bunk Moreland said:
-He isn't going to get an extension right now
-We aren't going to fire him because he's done a nice job
-The roster and culture is going to completely have to turn over and be re-built this year
-Buzz's decision on if he wants a longer term commitment right now somewhere else or if he wants to stay here and rebuild a a new team. If he stays he knows he'll need to produce quickly to get the next extension
Maybe he gets a raise outta of it. But i don't see that either
Beard makes more than Buzz, around 5mil. So unless he is looking to leave, I doubt we are going to up the ante enough to make him up ship. Same thing for Chris Jans, currently making 4.2mil. If you're going to money whip someone that's around that range, what about Kelvin Sampson? Who seems like a bargain, makes the same as buzz, 4.6mil. Or Shaka Smart at marquette?bobinator said:
Maybe, maybe not. There's definitely a couple that have already agreed to jobs that I'd call and see if they've signed anything yet.
Maybe we could get someone to pull a Chris Beard.
If you could guarantee me this is what would happen then I'd be all for trying it out.Proposition Joe said:
Why not instead of paying a meh coach $5MM/year and then bemoan that we can only afford average talent... we pay talent $4MM/year and then see what an average coach can do with it?
I like your idea! And,.....make the player sign a contract that has a buyout clause in it. If player goes portal, the new school has to pay the buyout before the player leaves.Proposition Joe said:

I don't. I'm just spit-ballin'..bobinator said:
Do we know how the rules are going to work in the revenue sharing model yet?
You definitely can't do this in the current model.

Dude, com'n. Wright is not coming back and if he did its not to come here.Topher17 said:Sarcasm?Batty said:

See Texas A&M Baseball for an example of this.Proposition Joe said:

Sampson yes. Smart no way. Even though he is doing great the optics of hiring a coach that Texas let go will never happen.
I was just making sure. You'd be surprised there are people here who would actually believe we could pull that off.Batty said:Dude, com'n. Wright is not coming back and if he did its not to come here.Topher17 said:Sarcasm?Batty said:

35 years ago when Creighton was in the MVC and before Altman really got them going and everyone bought in.TyperWoods said:

What would folks here think if we hired Porter Moser?
I wouldn't hate it but I wouldn't love it.
Yeah, that actually wasn't even his first time. He pulled the exact same stunt 4 years prior, taking a job 6 days after agreeing to another.bobinator said:
That's not what I was talking about. I was referring to when Beard took the UNLV job and then 19 days later took the Tech job.
I highly doubt we're going to "money whip" anyone. Maybe we'll try and get some people some nice raises.
I would be completely shocked if he left. I just don't believe the rumors. And if he does leave, we are pretty ****ed because all the mid-majors attractives have taken jobs. So we would be forced to go low major coaching route. I think there are some diamonds there but the step up to SEC is a mighty leap. And I don't think any high major coaches are going to come to Texas A&M. Especially since this roster will be completely bare after the remaining guys follow Buzz.Pumpkinhead said:
When Buzz left Marquette there were blogs and analysis of some comments that he made, implying Buzz was more comfortable as a basketball coach at a 'football' school. And Texas is his home state. Maryland from that line of thought would not be a good fit.
On the other hand, Buzz has been through 3 ADs in 6 years here and on top of that I think I read that when Albert's laid off a bunch of AD staff that included one or more positions related to basketball. And Buzz apparently is high maintenance and has his ways. So Buzz might be certainly be dissatisfied with anything from his boss to resources.
Buzz's Buyout as of April 1 last year was $19 million, not sure what it now is a year later but if still $12 million plus that is also a factor that isn't necessarily going to make it easy for him to jump.
Who knows. Internet rumors are notoriously hit or miss. I am in the camp where I think he is more likely than not still coaching here next season.
