Yeah- this is definitely an example of a show that would do better on the Netflix binge drop schedule.

Like almost no one watched the first episodes live, then it built, and most people binge watched.

Now it's got a different popularity.

Strongly disagree. When a show hits the zeitgeist like this has, it benefits hugely from the weekly online discussions, increasing viewership week after week.

Solid thus far, though Patrick Schwarzenegger cannot act! Or at least he can't play this role well. Still, it's basically the only good thing coming out of Hollywood at this point, so will continue to watch.

I think he's pulling off his role superficial ****** quite well. IMO his character is supposed to be so revolting we as an audience are supposed to ask "is this guy serious?"

That's how you've been reacting? I've been reacting with mild bemusement, as both Jake Lacy and Theo James were better playing this loose archetype.

Still, the other two siblings have been good. Of course helps that Sam Nivola is cute.

I think everyone has high opinions of the first couple seasons but forgets the slog they were to get through at first. Seemingly not much of a plot at all until you get to the 3rd or 4th episode. Until then it's just a bunch of characters with very few redeeming qualities being miserable to each other.

So far I'd say season 3 is right on the mark.

Maybe these are the least relatable then.

I've seen old vs young family, wait staff dealing with ****, poor girl marrying rich guy, aloof rich lady was at least cringe funny.

Season 2 same crazy rich lady. We all know faking it married couple and couple that doesn't sleep with each other.

Season 3 I don't know families that joke about happy ending at the dinner table, the old guy/ young bimbo works other than all the dude has done is smoke so far. No development on already used spa lady other than know her sons there at the death. The 3 ladies are enjoyable and in normal show path at least.

Honestly the most obnoxious thing is the thread just uses actor/actress names, not character, which I think proves even more how unmemorable they are.

We've done that for 3 whole seasons now.

Never could have told you what Connie Britton, Alexandria Deddario, Jake Lacy, Michael Imperioli, Aubrey Plaza, etc characters names were. Just the nature of the ridiculous show. They were just the actors.

I only know Jennifer Coolidge was Tanya bc she was iconic.

Am I gonna call Walton Goggins or Parker Posey or Patrick Schwarzenegger anything but that? Nope.

Is Lochton "Lochy", bc idk who the fk that kid is, yes. Do I know the character Belinda's name, bc calling her "that black spa chick" is rude, yes.

Are well known Leslie Bibb, Michelle Monoghan, and Carrie Coon's character names ever going to be remembered even though they're well written? No. Still know which one is which.

That's not a change between seasons.

They just HAD to go there…

It was hilarious.

Leslie Bibb is PERFECT for that role.

I'm guessing you probably can't see that diabolical Mike White was equally making fun of the other vapid 2 women.

That may have been the most "meh" episode of the entire series. I can't think of a single plot point that was advanced in any significant way.

Surprised he chose Austin for Bibb's character/story. DFW or Houston would've made much more sense.

I don't think the setting in Thailand helps much. It's the least interesting of the 3 seasons so far imo. I wouldn't mind an Iceland/nordic or Middle East destination

Yeah, I hate it when shows inject current politics in it. It never ages well. This was a long slog of an episode. Was hoping the snake farm event would lead to more craziness but they moved on quick from it.

Still too early for this proclamation but if next episode is more of the same sh/t we have a problem. Get Goggins to Bangkok, get Isaacs to do something other than sleep, get the robbery investigation going…it's by a mile behind its two predecessors so far but hoping it redeems itself.

Agreed.

While this was definitely the slowest/most uneventful episode so far, and these first three episodes probably should have been edited down to two, I'm still enjoying it, and next week finally looks to mix/pick things up.

Still a ton of potential, with five more episodes to go.

I'm with 20ag07. If you can't see what Mike White is doing there, I don't know what to tell you. That wasn't "injecting politics," it was a plot device to show how fickle, stereotypical, and catty all three women are, turning the tables on the one who had already teamed up with each of the other two to talk **** about the odd woman out in each conversation. They're my favorite group so far and that was the perfect way to keep their disingenuous little dynamic going.

Yeah, her character screams Highland Park, but Bibb literally already was the star in a series called Good Christian Btches about her moving back to Highland Park and having church drama.

This is where I'll re-make my point, that you didn't like, that this show does SO much better consumed in a binge watch (which is how most people consumed it in the earlier seasons before it was popular).

As an hour of television, it was totally entertaining. Continued setup, hilarious nuance, etc. It feels slow bc you have to wait a week for what's next. And nothing *happened*. But we all know most of that nuance is going *somewhere*.

Why is the whole Ratliff family obsessed with Tsunamis?

We've gotta find reasons to round up everybody to get on Greg/Gary's yacht.

Stuff always happens when they're off the resort on the water. Etc.

You fanboys make sure not to break your arm patting yourselves on the back. White can have moments of genius but I see none in the cougar storyline. Did he really have to exclude each one from the group to show that women talk **** about each other behind their backs?

He could have continued the schism with anything in the world but chose Bible-thumping Texans and you-know-who. If you liked it, good, but it just took me out of the setting and brought me back to the real world. I'd rather not think about current events while I'm watching escapist television.
General Jack D. Ripper
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree. It was stupid and unnecessary. To me bringing it current events date/screws up a show just like computers screw up a sci-fi.

Plus it attempts to cement the narrative that trump was elected by some minority of the US public.

No, it did not do that at all.

It showed that some vapid California women are so out of touch with what other people think. They've got their own VERY well established problems (alcoholism, divorce, etc), but they'll get catty over who someone else voted for. That's NOT portrayed positively, or like they have any kind of worldly view. They are portrayed like insular idiotic catty dumbasses for thinking that.

If this series hadn't had 2 successful seasons before it, many here would have already jumped ship. It'd be like that show with the weekend that never finished.

It is trash so far.
I wish they'd give Goggins more to work with, too. He is a hilarious actor. At least the snake farm segment was somewhat funny

Maybe that's the genius of it. Different groups can see it differently.
20ag07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Who are the "different groups"?

1)-The ones who hear Trump's name and get immediately defensive (which a few on here seem to be), looking for ways to say a "narrative" exists in a TV show (which it in fact did not), and

2)the types who attack their childhood best friend over how they think she voted if she voted for Trump, and are willing to bring the claws out over it (as the vapid characters are portrayed).

Are those the different groups?

(There's a 3rd one- which Mike White would appear to fall into, which is "we can make fun of all of these people").

The episode seemed like a set up episode where everything in the following episode will come together and likely be wheels off. As someone said, it could have been blended with episode 2 but o well. It is entertaining and well made. I do want more Goggins, You can tell there is a lot there.

I'm going to go deeper on this, since you got sensitive.

The exact scene is "I go to church".

And the idiotic friends (who are made to look like idiots) say "How can you do that without talking about politics?"

And she literally says "They are good people, we don't need to talk about that."

Which, if you're not from F16, or whatever the California version of that, is how people should be living their lives.

Perfectly portrayed.

We got the catty btches being like "how can you go to church and not talk about Trump", just like we got the grampys in here being like "how can you go to church and anywhere else and not say great things about Trump?"

It's all so stupid, and Mike White dialed it in perfectly.
