The portrayal of the 3 women is so dead on though of how they consider themselves close, life-long friends, but this trip is exposing that they really only know the surface of each other's lives, and how much they've changed since whenever they became close as young women. I've had that exact conversation with other women I thought I knew well or thought we shared the same point of view on an issue, and we've seen that exact look on each other's face.

That episode was sloooowww.

Well if anything can turn the show around, it'll be the carolinans on a boat with Greg.

Or Schwarzenegger on a bout with geis, whatever is proper here

I'm okay with a slow burn (loved Better Call Saul) and was really looking forward to this season. That said, we are through 3 of 8 episodes and to this point, we know about as much as we did at the end of episode 1.

That's a fair argument. Personally, I watch this show more for the vibes/scenery, and less for the plot, so I guess I'm more okay with it all in that regard, but you bring up a great point.

Basically, like I said earlier, these first three episodes should have been edited down to two. But to go even further, everything teased in next week's episode should have been set in motion in the last five minutes of a new, re-edited episode two...

- The Ratliffs should be boarding the yacht, ready to set sail.

- Rick should be leaving the hotel, headed for Bangkok.

- And there's a scene teased next week of Belinda looking up Greg on a computer and having her suspicions confirmed. That should have been the final, cliffhangery scene of the re-edited episode two.

Again, I love the characters, their dynamics, everything that's happening, and where it all looks to be heading. But HBO should have better-paced this thing overall.

Brother, when did I get sensitive? I didn't even hardly respond to your post. You're entitled to your perspective, and I'm entitled to mine. While I don't necessarily disagree with you, it just seems an odd thing to get worked up about.

S1: 6 episodes
S2: 7 episodes
S3: 8 episodes (maybe should have been 7)

I didn't mind the slower episode, still had some funny parts (Cobra show guy just going thru his spiel for the thousandth time). What I do mind is all the relaxing spa treatments being shown as my mind is slowly getting stressed about Monday morning

I think you forgot about the time you said this: "Plus it attempts to cement the narrative that trump was elected by some minority of the US public."

And then the time you said "different groups see it differently."

I don't see how that was me getting all excited.

I considered what you said in regards to my comment about it cementing the narrative. I was only remarking in consideration of what you said and thought that it was an interesting choice by the writer. I understand that it was used to show the cattiness of the characters, but people with differing political views could see it differently and that I found it interesting.

I assure you, there are people that saw the California women as stupid and there were people that saw the Austin woman as stupid. Regardless, at the end, it illustrated the backbiting between the three.

I throughly it was one of the weaker episodes, but that's all relative. I still really enjoyed it.
To the point about nothing happening, it was a classic BB or BCS set up episode, all the characters's paths have clear major issues in the next episode.
What seems to get lost is how central PP's character is to everything. She is the comedy ~ every time someone in the family says or does something crazy they cut to her, and she's either laughing at her son's misogynistic jokes, or just bemused at the crazy. And now that her husband is losing it, she's the calm rational one, which is an interesting psychological twist that says she smarter than she has let on.
To TC's point, they could have cut it to two from three, but I'd rather have more than less so I'm fine with it. If the next episode doesn't pick up I will join in the concern, but seems clear it will.

Few thoughts -
- Totally misplaced Austin instead of Dallas or Houston or San Antonio, but unless you're from Texas you don't realize it
- I thought Cobra bites were extremely toxic, not something you recover from in a couple hours and are able to enjoy some wine at dinner the same day
- Crazy theory - Parker Posey knows exactly what's going on with her husband, never acts concerned, and keeps offering the pills so he can't deal with it, maybe she has set him up and is looking forward to him going to jail?
- Gaitok is this season's Alby and Mook/Lisa is setting him up
- Greg knows he's been made so interesting how he handles that

I had the same thought on Posey setting him up.

I disagree on the weaker part. I feel like it was strong because it started intertwining the characters and you're starting to see multiple angles. I thought it was a very solid episode and it's doing good on building to the climax.

Another reason I might be higher on this season so far than some is how infectious the enthusiasm has been from Bill, Mallory, and Jo on The Prestige TV podcast. I like watching their breakdowns almost as much as the episodes themselves…

It's interesting they mention Gaitok. He flew up my list after this episode. The meeting at 7am the next day is going to be big. I started thinking oh this is going to be a guy that is fired, loses his chance at love or the new job he tried to chase. Will he completely change and snap?

Of course she doesn't fit stereotypical Austin, but there are many areas around the metro area where a stereotypical Christian conservative family would live and have a community of other like minded people around them. Plus it would have been too on the nose to have her be ANOTHER Dallas based conservative blonde character. By her living in Austin we all are either guessing on her personality type or assuming she is just a stereotypical transplant.

They mentioned that there is still an unknown cast member that hasn't been announced yet, and now I'm obsessed with figuring out who it is, even though we're obviously not supposed to know.

It is Sritala's husband, he has been listed on IMDB for the past two episodes then taken off after the episode airs

Love the Ringer podcasts! I've also been listening to them after each episode and appreciate their takes. Another Ringer product, The Watch with Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald, has been covering most of the WL episodes.

Wife and I also thought it was a slow episode, but chalked it up as a slow burn and about to take off. I agree with others it definitely lacks the lightness of past seasons, and not as likable players. But even if it feels like a different show I suspect once all said and done it will be a fun and satisfying ride. I'm sure there is a lot in store that is just around the corner.

The Bill Simmons/Dave Bernard interview was fantastic.

But ugh, he totally shot down the ski resort idea, saying White would never do it.

The only rumored location I've seen for S4 is Norway, and I loved it.

Yeah that was disappointing to hear. A luxury ski lodge setting would be so awesome.

Yeah, but I don't see the Wilco residence going to Thailand for vacation.

I think logistically a ski lodge would be really hard. You would be limited in your shooting window to a few months, eating up room space during their only valuable sewson would be tough, there would need to be actual snow so a dry year and you are screwed, filming in the cold and snow is harder, limited daylight in the winter etc,
But yeah, it would be awesome.
