What a game guys!

RJ played a horrible game then came in and hit 2 huge jumpers.

Keep the streak alive although tomorrow night in Portland is definitely going to be a tough one.

Duncan who is averaging 27mpg has now played 41 and 38 minutes in the last 2 games. Usually Pop would definitely sit Duncan in this situation but without Splitter that is near impossible to do.

Guys should be pretty tired tonight and I just don't see them coming out with much energy on the road in Portland. Not to mention Portland is getting embarrassed tonight.

Either way I'll take a 7-2 or 8-1 RRT. What a great month for the Spurs.

I'll be shocked if Duncan plays more than 12 minutes against Portland. Fully expecting them stick with the young guys and role players, play small ball, and hope to hit enough threes to pull off the win.

I'm pretty shocked that the spurs pulled that game off. Glad they have the mental toughness to continue playing, even while shorthanded

Understandable that Anderson wants out.

In other news,

quote:
San Antonio, TX —
The San Antonio Spurs have signed forward Eric Dawson to a 10-day contract.

Dawson has appeared in 18 games for Austin of the NBA Development League and is averaging 15.9 points with 10.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Toros. He is second in the D-League with 13 double-doubles.

A San Antonio native, the 6-foot-9 Dawson has played internationally in Slovenia, Japan, South Korea and the Dominican Republic in addition to 67 games with Austin. He was a Division II Second-Team All-American in college at Midwestern State University.

I think he was on the bench last night Shark. Maybe he'll get some PT if Duncan's minutes are limited tonight.

I never have understood the mindset of guys like Anderson, if he is pissed about his playing time. He gets the opportunity to fight RJ, Kawhi, Gary Neal, and Danny Green for a starting job and significant minutes and can't out perform a single one of them.

What NBA team does he think he can end up on with less competition than that at the 2 or 3 spot? I'll tell you how many. None.

And what's also dumb, the Spurs chose not to exercise their option on his third year. So he's going to be a free agent in the summer anyways.

That injury at the start of next year really set him back. He was playing pretty well until then.

haha Pop gave Tony and Tim the night off. What an a-hole.

So dumb. They are about to have a break during all star weekend. I don't understand this.

I like the rest. But part of me thinks it's pompous Pop trying to make a statement.

aggie0105, I think he's more upset they didn't pick up his option for another year. I personally found that kind of odd, if they use the amnesty on RJ and Ginobili remains as brittle as he is, and then you also take Anderson's experience with the team into consideration, he would have been nice to have.

With that said, if the Spurs can pick up something decent in return and he isn't going to get any PT, might as well trade him instead of losing him for nothing at the end of the year. We've seen what the Spurs can do with 2nd round picks...I usually don't care when a 2nd round pick is thrown into a trade b/c they don't pan out the majority of the time, but the Spurs hit on them more than anybody else.

What statement would he be trying to make?

I honestly just think it's rest. They've had a rough couple of weeks.

I don't think anyone would give up two second round picks for him. Why when they can make him a lowball offer during the offseason if they really want to without giving up anything? He really hasn't shown much in the NBA so it's not like teams are going to be knocking at the Spurs door for a trade. The only way he is traded, IMO, is if he's part of a bigger package.
Ulrich

Duncan and Parker have been playing a lot of minutes and had a tough game last night. By giving them the night off, they'll have 2 full days of rest going into the game against Denver, then the all-star break. They'll be well-rested for the second half of the season.

And wow, the Blazers are hot.

it really is absolutely stunning how much the big 3 make the guys around them better.

every single other person on the spurs clearly blows ass, but looks like an amazing role player in Pop's system surrounded by those 3.
Ulrich

Most of them are solid role players. Obviously they are not going to look too great trying to play without the core of the team.

I can understand why they are struggling to score, but they should be playing better defense than this.

I see what they are doing. They don't want to be traded so they are playing like crap so nobody will want them.

Simple, take away Kobe, Bynum and Pau and you think the Lakers would do better? You could say this for any team who are playing without their best three players. Thank you again for contributing absolutely nothing.

At least Kawhi came out to play tonight. This guy can be really good. I'm excited at his potential.

Ital, I don't see anyone giving up two 2nd rounders either, sorry if my post was poorly worded. I could see a team below the cap taking a chance on him for a 2nd rounder. He basically missed his first season and hasn't gotten a lot of PT here in SA, but he was a solid scorer at okie lite and was a projected 1st rounder coming out of college.

SG is one of the weaker positions in the NBA nowadays, if he could develop into a guy who gives you 10-12 points a game and hit a decent % on 3s, both of which I think he's capable of, I don't see why a team under the cap wouldn't float the Spurs a 2nd round pick to take a chance on the guy, assuming they could get him to agree to sign another contract there.

I'm really excited about Kawhi. He's just one of those guys that you don't have to draw up any plays for and he's going to get his hands on the ball and make something happen, not to mention his defense. He can guard the 2 and 3 easily and in the right matchup can slide down to the 4.

I hated giving up Hill for him, but I think in the grand scheme of things it's going to work out for the best.
Enzo The Baker

Yea i guess I could see that. The only problem is, he really hasn't seen a lot of court time. So I don't think there are a lot of teams that know what he can currently do. And he sure isn't helping his cause tonight.

As a fan, I would have loved to see the Spurs continue their streak as long as possible, with all their starters. However this game will benefit us in the long run, and further down in the season. All these young guys are getting alot of playing time, and experience to get into the feel of things.

Now about how the team played this game. I was hoping they would win, but I knew it was close to impossible for them to win.

From what I have seen, I am really looking forward to how many more looks Kawhi is going to get. The guy is playing an incredible game, and I expect him to do just as good if not better with all the ole guys back. I can see Popovich giving Kawhi alot more starts, because not only can he defend really well now we know he can score.

Danny Green kind of got me out of my skepticism for him after his previous games. Although he can still elevate his game.

Neal seems to me past few games he is real dicey. In the Clippers game had a turnover which could have cost us game, but then he hits game tieing 3. In tonights game he seems to me he is a little careless with the ball, then at times he is all world. I geuss that's how it is with a young guy.

For Corey Joseph he has been a complete bust in my opinion. Yes he is guarding against a guy who didn't miss shot in first half, but he needs to atleast get a hand in his face, he needs to be more aware of what's going on. The guy is absolutely atrocious on offense, he has no court vision, the guy tries to be a playmaker when he isn't. His minutes need to disappear in a hurry, and instead need to go to Anderson.

Anderson really impresses me, places decent defense, and not to bad on offense.

I think in order to even have fighting chance Jefferson needed to step up and be a leader to the young guys but he didn't the guy was 1 for 5 while I was watching, and I'm sure he hasn't done anything since.

I know I should be cutting everyone a break, given the circumstances, but as a fan we all know we want our team to win, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. I still kind of think Popovich did this to get streak over with and tick us off, but I'm sure real reason was for playoff run. Anyways, Spurs fall to Portland.

Go Spurs Go!

I agree with a lot of that. But to me, I think Anderson is a bust. He's a capable defender, but seems lackadaisical at times and his offensive game just doesn't translate well to the NBA. He really struggles to create his own shot. While this is not important now, he will need to do so at some point if he wants to see more playing time with Manu's career coming to an end. And he really isn't that great of a spot up shooter either. It's a shame it didn't work out.
FWAggie16
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You know, I haven't been able to see a whole lot of Anderson, because the guy gets hardly any playing time. But, I would much rather seem him than that hack Joseph. But as of now from what I have seen of Anderson, I see him more of like a guy who can come off your bench, and if you have a lead, he will be able to sustain that lead, or if need be, build on that lead, or help overcome a deficit. I think he can become a real solid bench player later on his career, nothing like Manu, but real solid.

I don't mean to say he'll be like Manu. I mean that it will be important for him to create his own shot in the future to shore up some dry spells. He has shown time and time again this year that he is incapable of doing that.

Joseph rarely gets playing time. The only reason he is now is because of everyone that's out. He's only 20, and I think it's premature to call him a bust. He didn't really have the benefit of a preseason camp. RC and Pop like him. It's just a matter of him developing. Once we get everyone back, he will be relegated to the D league.
