I am a spurs fan but I think you need to decide who are you going to put on Griffin? Diaw? Blair? Duncan will draw Jordan.

Spurs don't give up a ton of backdoor dunks. Griffin is not great when he is not being fed the ball for easy plays. He isn't that great at creating, but he is tremendous at finishing in the paint.

And Tony was anything but a third wheel on the 2007 Championship team...

Beat me to it. Grasping at straws now.
And Tony was anything but a franchise superstar in 2007. Who's grasping?
Parker 2007 was closer to 3rd wheel than he was to being the franchise max-level superstar like Chris Paul has always been. Every time Parker has been asked to carry the same load as Paul he has failed to win anything. You're knocking Paul for not having the same success that can only be achieved with an elite supporting cast.

So pretend they traded Parker for the Paul draft pick in 2005. Would they have done worse than 1 title in 7 seasons with Paul over Parker?

if the Spurs had Paul instead of Parker, they would've been a true dynasty. as in: been able to defend their title (at least once) back to back.

When everything you say that can be proven with facts is shown to be wrong, it is time to rely on the only thing you have left - what if statements that cannot be verified in any way.

Finals MVP. A list that includes Dwayne Wade, Dirk, Tim Duncan, Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Chauncy Billups, Micheal Jordan, The Dream, Bird, and Magic. But of course, Parker is just a "3rd Wheel"...please. If he wasn't a franchise superstar before '07, he was afterwards.

When the pundits talk about the Spurs Big 3, they mean Duncan, Manu, and Parker. Of course they can't win it by themselves, I mean, when has Kobe won a title without D-Fish? Funny thing about basketball, it is a team sport. Tony has been on some great teams, but he as also risen to the occasion.

again, these are not actually Parker's numbers

Again, Parker has actually won three NBA titles, including a Finals MVP.

But please continue to tell us how a marginally better statistical player who has never played a game out of the second round, (ironically eliminated in that second round by that player he is so much better than), is going make the Spurs anything more than what they already are, contenders...

How much you produce per minute of play is useless in judging how good of a player you are?

Gotta hand it to Simplebay. He points to numbers, calls them one thing, then when you quite correctly point out that they aren't what he says they are, he either moves on to his next "argument" (OMG only true dynasties get back to back titles... hey retard, I'd rather win 4 titles in 10 years and be the winningest team in professional sports during that time than 2 in back to back years and then suck) OR he just ignores the correcting statement and continues on with his claim.

Parkers numbers this year are not a stastical variance from previous years. Chris Paul's numbers do not "dominate" Parker's numbers, and the difference can easily be accounted for considering the styles of offenses the two teams run. This whole conversation is stupid. The spurs will kick the crap out of the clippers, despite Paul playing great, and Simplebay will move the goalposts, claiming that the Clip suck, Vinny Del Negro is an awful coach, and that he was right all along because Paul played well.

Or maybe by that point he'll be gone because the lakers are out of the playoffs.

I agree that it's a totally useless stat. For instance, the guy who scores 20ppg while averaging 40 mpg is a MUCH better scorer than the guy who averages 15 ppg while averaging 20 minutes a game.

I mean, how could a statistic that shows productivity per minute on the court not be useless?

I gotta hand it to Simplebay--he's been trolling for so long he literally knows no other way to post. Amazing consistency in willful stupidity.

please tell me how PER 48 mins stat works for someone averaging less than that?

it wouldn't happen to be a projection of statistics given the verifiable ones would it? not a breakdown of their usage of on the court production.

great news guys, the best player in this year's playoffs is Von Wafer. he's #1 in PER 48min Orlando will be thrilled.

Looks like it shows the best scorers pretty well over a large sample size, dip****.

Anyone with any understanding of statistics, excuse me, any common ****ing sense can realize that a player who has played 6 minutes in 1 game might have a skewed PER.

But of course, you meet none of the criteria...

InternetFan is outretarding simplebay, which isn't easy to do.

In 07, Parker averaged
18.2, 6.8ast against Denver
20.8pts, 5.7ast against Pho
20.2pts, 6.8ast against Utah
24.5pts, 3.0ast, won the finals MVP award against Clev

48% FG shooting for the playoffs

Yea, that's a 3rd wheel performance alright.

and James Worthy, Joe Dumars...If you want to claim he's been a franchise superstar since ~2008 (which I disagree with) then that only supports my stance that he hasn't won anything since becoming the Spurs best player.

So what's your point? That he was actually just the 2nd wheel for 2007 and that somehow changes things? I could have written 2nd-3rd wheel and it wouldn't have changed my argument at all. 2007 was Duncan's team, supported by Parker, Ginobili, Bowen, and Horry. You disagree?
atfarmer

That you're an idiot. You're trying to say that Parker was another faceless cog behind Duncan and that just wasn't the case.

In 07, it was still Duncan's team, but he was 1a and Parker was 1b.

Honest question, when was the last time a PG was the franchise player and led a team to a championship without at the very least a dominant defensive big man?

Very true.
Mavs - Old Kidd
Lakers - Old Fish
Lakers - Old Fish
Celtics - 4th fiddle Rondo
Spurs - Parker Finals MVP
Heat - White Chocolate
Spurs - Parker
Pistons - Finals MVP Billups
Spurs - really young Parker
Lakers - Fish
Lakers - Fish
Lakers - Harper
Spurs - Avery Freakin Johnson
Bulls - Harper
Bulls - Harper
Bulls - Harper
Rockets - Smith
Rockets Smith
Bulls - BJ
Bulls - Paxton
Bulls - Paxton
Pistons - Isiah Thomas

You really have to go back to Isiah Thomas to get a true franchise PG on an NBA Championship team.

After last nights game I'm officially worried...

I think Memphis will win this series. If they do, they will have won 3 elimination games in a row, gain tons of momentum and regained their swagger from last year.

This doesn't bode well for the Spurs. I know the Spurs are much better than last year but again, Memphis is a bad matchup.

However, if the Clips pull it out, I have even more confidence that the Spurs will beat LA in 5 or 6. Last nights game made it alot clearer to me that the Clips can't beat the Spurs.

COME ON LA!!!
Gigem Trevas

I am a Grizzlies fan and I am skeptical of them winning in LA. If they win in LA I fully believe they will win the series. But the 2 games in LA so far they have not played well.

Agreed. Until last night, I was unconcerned with who SA plays, but I do NOT want them up against a Grizz squad that's regained it's 2011 form. Even though I still say SA would win, it'd be a much more difficult series, with OKC or LA waiting in the wings (assuming LAL beats DEN).

Bring on the Clips!!!

They showed flashes of last years series against the Spurs in the first half. However they did not play well in the 2nd half and nearly gave it away.

I agree. And it's those flashes that worry me.

I think the Spurs are better equipped this year for a Memphis grind. But that is not what I wanted to see last night.

And now Griffin and Paul are a little beat up so it doens't make things any easier for the Clips.
