I think as Sessions plays a bigger role and gets more accustomed to the offense, that'll help. he's getting better every game

i also expect Mike Brown's rotations to stabilize (injuries and roster changes)

oh, and: Kobe Bryant. playoffs. as long as gasol doesn't lay a huge **** in the playoffs (not looking like he will), and the team the lakers are playing against doesn't shoot 90000% from 3pt like the Mavs last year... then yeah, i expect the Lakers to get to the finals.

however...if the Lakers shoot the ball poorly, and bynum/gasol get pushed around by perkins and ibaka against the thunder, and don't slow the game wayyyyy down...the thunder will beat the Lakers in 4 or 5.

i like the lakers chances against the spurs very very much.

and to keep it relevant to tonight's big game...

i think the Spurs will lose to the Celtics. it's an important game for both teams IMO, and the Celtics have looked reinvigorated as of late.

if the Spurs blow them out, i'll be impressed.

I think it's on NBA LP, good thing I have that.

The lakers show no indication whatever that they have improved from last year's team, which was swept out of the conference semis. Last year, they won 46 games before they lost their 20th game. The're basically 7.5 games back from where they were last year. Oh yeah, and their most versatile "glue guy" is now playing for a different team. What makes you think it is all going to magically come together at the last minute?

11.3ppg, 9.4rpg, 57% FG, 66% FT, 2bpg

This Season:
18ppg (#27 in the NBA), 12rpg (#3 in the NBA), 58% FG (#2 in the NBA), 68% FT, 2bpg (#5 in the NBA)

yeah, no improvement whatsoever.

Big deal.

It clearly has not resulted in a better team up to this point.

Lebron/Dwade/Bosh were the perfect example last year of a team that was clearly more talented on paper than any anyone else, yet failed to win a championship.

There's WAY more to playoff success than individual statistics.

But if statistics is the route you want to go, what is Mike Brown's winning % in the playoffs versus Phil Jackson's?

this team is a better mesh of players than last year's team. if nothing else, because Fisher is gone. Completely new roster. New coaching staff. New system. No practice time

Record at this point last year: 38-17
Record currently: 34-20

Not quite the gloom and doom everyone thinks.

IMO opinion the spurs are doing so well this season for 3 reasons:

1. Everyone is overlooking them
2. Excellent coaching, getting productivity out of no names. These rooks and no names will not produce as effectively in the playoffs (historical and statistical fact)
3. Favorable schedule

The Spurs defense that everyone in this thread proclaims is so good this year, is actually far worse than last year. Last year the Spurs were 11th in defensive efficiency. This year, the Spurs are 18th.

Put a team clicking offensively OKC, probably the Lakers by then, and even maybe the Clippers if Del Negro doesn't mess them over, and the Spurs will be beat.

Our offense is moving well enough to provide us with easy layups and wide open threes.

Just keep moving the ball and spreading the floor, and taking what the defense is giving you.

Nobody is saying the Lakers aren't capable. But to come onto the Spurs thread and rave about how the Spurs have no chance and the lakers are the favorite to win it all is ridiculous trolling.
