Two hottest teams in each conference. Should be a great game.

This team is so deep. Seriously don't know what should happen with the rotation come playoff time.

Mills with a fantastic night, and everyone under 25 minutes. Deep deep deep.

Patty Mills is starting to look like a gem. Ditto for Diaw. Mills reminds me of a better shooting Speedy Claxton.

Jackson still struggling on offense, but they got him for defense anyway.

can someone give me the background on Mills and how we ended up with him? i know he's australian and played for the blazers for a while and was in china until somewhat recently...i really don't know much about the guy.

He signed a contract in China during the NBA lockout and recently became able to sign anywhere he wanted. The main reason he chose the Spurs is because Spurs assistant coach Brett Brown is also the head coach of the Australian National Team and therefore the Spurs are very familiar with Patty.

Here's a small article with some quotes from Patty about the signing:

Not to mention, he's only 23.

Hopefully the spurs can take care of Boston, who really are worse than their record suggests. Their schedule is a joke. Need to put the pressure on okc.

quote:
When the Cavs scored four quick points to open the second quarter, Popovich called a timeout and spent the break ripping into his players, particularly Mills, who gave up an easy layup.

The Spurs responded to the tongue lashing as Green hit a pair of 3-pointers to help open a 53-31 lead.

Gotta love Pop!

Boston is starting to play much better as of late, it will be an interesting game. The hottest team in the West v the hottest team in the East.

Meh. Look at their schedule even recently. Not that impressed. Wont surprise me though if they get up for this game.

They just beat Miami. They are playing a lot better than the beginning of the season when they were on the outside looking in at the playoffs. They now sit at the 4 spot.

Spurs homers tonight:

Spurs win...team is unreal and gonna win the championship. Amazing and important win.

Spurs lose....meh, not an important game, spurs prolly tired or didnt try. Means nothing. Spurs are gonna win the championship.

Seen this the past 3 seasons. And the Spurs flame out in the playoffs

Simple:

Spurs win: boston sucks, enjoy your regular season wins, first round exit
Spurs lose: spurs suck, first round exit

Nah.

Important win for either team. Boston is playing well.

But...i do think the lakers, thunder, or grizzlies will knock out the spurs. Whoever they play first

The Thunder are the only team with a shot at this point, and the Spurs have played very well against them this year.

The Spurs are a different animal this year than they have been the past 2-3. Memphis and LA have A LOT of ground to cover before they are Spurs quality.

1. The Spurs are now the deepest team in the league, hands down
2. They are also no longer anywhere near being one of the oldest teams in the league
3. Added depth on the front line (Splitter is very improved and playing a major role this year, Diaw is contributing now)
4. Diamond-in-the-rought Danny Green has finally filled in the hole on the defensive end left by Bruce Bowen's departure
5. Stephen M f'n Jackson. Adds an edge, adds a talented scorer, adds a guy that plays great defense and can defend the 2,3 and 4 positions, adds a quality fill-in for Ginobili when he gets injured
6. Richard Chokerson is now on another roster
7. Tim Duncan is having his best year since 2007

I just don't think you can compare the 2012 Spurs to their other recent teams. The offense is off the charts, the defense is much better (especially closing out games, which has been a Spurs trademark in their championship years), the roster is loaded, and the development of Green and addition of SJax bring entirely new elements to the team that they've been missing since Bowen and Horry retired.

Big game tonight. I agree with MassAggie, I think this team is special. The depth is amazing.

BUT, and this is big one, the spurs depth and role players will have to continue to perform at their current rate come playoff time. Bonner, Blair, Green, Leonard, Spittler and co. cannot fade.

Match ups and injuries will play a role as well. While there was no excuse for last seasons flame out, I believe had the Spurs not drawn the Grizz and/or Manu not have gotten hurt that the Spurs would have gone on a deep run.

But that's the game. I am hoping this team shapes out differently. We've got as good of shot at winning it all as anyone.

are you of the opinion the spurs should go 4-0 against the lakers and grizz down the stretch?

-3 of those games are at home

-however, DUN DUN DUN, 2 of them are on the second night of a b2b (i'm prepping the best of the spurs' fans known excuses already)

- the last lakers game will be the 5th to last game of the season, so maybe the spurs/pop won't try. (again, i'm prepping the best of the spurs' fans known excuses already)
Sher Thing

The Lakers and Grizz definitely possess the biggest matchup problems for the Spurs and definitely have a shot at beating us in a 7 game series. If the Spurs stay healthy though and have home court I would still put my money on the Spurs to win that series. Best case scenario is the Spurs end up with UTAH/HOU/DEN 1st round and the Clippers catch LAL for the 3 seed.

As for tonight's game you were right about one thing: Win or Lose it really doesn't matter. Spurs are just trying to stay healthy and get better at this point. They aren't going to lose the 2 seed and are very unlikely to grab the 1.

For example, The Spurs beat BOS by 20 but someone gets hurt = Spurs lose.

Spurs just need to stay healthy at this point and I don't care about anything else. Sit Duncan or Manu all you want Pop.

so.....is it 4-0 against the Lakers/Grizz?

does momentum into the playoffs not matter to the Spurs? Is that why they haven't won anything since 2007? Too must resting?

couple of schools of thought. some people think it's best to bust your ass all out for the last 4-5 games of the season. be palying your best ball going into the postseason

Oh. I thought we were talking about playoffs. The Spurs should go 4-0 in that stretch. Then again, LA should have not gotten trucked by OKC the other night. Andrew Bynum should have not taken that 3-point shot. Anything can happen on any given night.

quote:
3 of those games are at home

Pretty good chance the Spurs take those 3.

quote:
however, DUN DUN DUN, 2 of them are on the second night of a b2b

Spurs recently won 5 games in 6 nights. Having said that, it is the regular season. Basically 82 1-game series. Anything can happen in a 1-game series.

quote:
the last lakers game will be the 5th to last game of the season, so maybe the spurs/pop won't try

In the past, the Spurs have struggled when Pop rests one or more of the "big 3". This year, the Spurs are still winning those games.

LA is probably the most talented team in the west, taking into account only the top of their roster. But they are 6-4 in their last 10 games including losses to 4 of the 5 teams they've played with winning records. Andrew Bynum appears like he is starting to take normalcy cues from Metta WP. All indications point to tension between the players and Mike Brown. What in the world makes you think they will right the ship between now and May 1???

not that this stat has any bearing on what will happen tonight, but in 8 head to head matchups since KG and Ray have come to boston they are 6-2 against frenchy, the nose, and the big snooze
