i would love to have kept george hill, but how could anyone possibly question the spurs front office and the moves they make.

also, simplestain will be here shortly to remind us how most teams in the league would have won 5 games in 6 nights so the spurs, ultimately, are doomed to miss the playoffs and we suck dong and he likes to butt **** cats and whatever else he likes to say on this glorious SPURS thread.

Or he'll reiterate that the combined record of the past 5 opponents is probably below .500, and the Spurs and Lakers are in a dogfight for that second seed.

the spurs would have to take over a week off and the lakers would have to win every game that week to even sniff catching the spurs.

4 and 1/2 games back with 16 or so to go. good luck, simple****stain

To be fair, we do have 3 games with the Lakers, so it's possible if we lose all of those.

Kind of interesting.

quote:
Coach Gregg Popovich’s team commits fewer fouls than any other team and hasn’t had a player foul out of a game all season long.

According to STATS LLC, no NBA team at least since 1950-51 — as far back as the stat is available — has made it through a full season without a player fouling out of a game.

Probably because players aren't logging large minutes.

blah blah blah something something spurs always complain about refs blah blah something something lakers have 13 guys who could start anywhere on the floor for san antonio blah blah something

the thing that strikes me about that is coaching. i am not really one to beetch about the refs, and the lack of fouls called against SA strikes me as due to successful team coaching.

SA's defense has always struck me as a better because the sum of its parts. if plays buy into a defensive system, you help out more if you get beat, can commit less fouls as a result. that's why SA is always at the top defensively, but havent necessarily had the quickest or best one on one defenders (Bowen aside)

it also has to do with the fact that Tim Duncan for many years, was what I considered to be the best help defender in the league.

I posted a story a couple of months ago about DRob's son, Corey. He just committed to play football for Notre Dame as a WR.

Dammit. I was hoping A&M would snag him. He's legit.

Without any disrespect to any other team in league... I hear more of these quotes talking about the Spurs than anyone else. Maybe it's because I read about SA more than anyone else.

From our front office to the players, you hear so many quotes like this. Steve Kerr said in a podcast the other day that Duncan was his favorite teammate ever followed closely by Manu.

I love this franchise. So many solid people to root for.

The George Hill for Leonard (plus draft picks) trade will later be remembered as a landslide for the Spurs. Leonard will be a special player in this league while Hill will always be a middle of the road guard.

The bright of losing to the Grizz last year, it exposed a weakness... perimeter size.

Add Leonard 6'8'' monster rebounder and defender
Add SJax also 6'8''
Give Danny Green more minutes 6'4''

I was watching the end of last night's game and Pop closed out with Parker, Duncan, SJax, Loenard and Genobili. I said to my son, "this is the lineup we'd see against the Heat if play them in the finals" I really hope to see it.

^^^^ agree with almost all of this

Leonard is playing well right now. but, he's gonna get more $$$ probably. can always change things

he's a steal now, having a breakout year, but to say he's gonna be a "special player" in this league might be overstating it a bit (see: Trevor Ariza).

Leonard has the physical tools to be waaaay better than Ariza.

He will need to keep adding more and more offensively and I think he can and will do it. The guy is a gym rat.

For example, Kawhi had a notoriously poor outside shot in college. His 3p fg% right now is over 38%.

The Spurs also got Erazem Lorbek in the Hill/Leonard trade and he was arguably the best big man in Europe this past season. I fully expect him to be priority #1 this off-season.

It was a great trade for the Spurs even if he doesn't pan out but if they can get him over it would be a huge landslide of a deal.
Enzo The Baker

Lorbek will probably stay. He was kind of luke warm on coming to the NBA and I know there are a couple of suitors abroad that are extremely interested. I do think we will look at De Colo though.

Our transformation into the French national team will soon be complete.

Lorbek has become a lot more open to joining the NBA since the trade. Playing in San Antonio and Indiana are totally different opportunities.

De Colo is not NBA ready yet IMO and with our influx of guards here and Mills getting a 2 year deal I would say that's an unlikely option at this point.

quote:
In last summer’s draft day trade which sent fan favorite George Hill to Indiana, the San Antonio Spurs may have received from the Pacers a hidden gem in Slovenian big man Erazem Lorbek. The guy puts up some solid numbers playing for Regal Barcelona over in the Euroleague: 14.2 points a game shooting 63% from the field and grabbing almost 5 rebounds a game while playing just an average of 24 minutes.

And with such a solid big man the Spurs can desperately use soon, comes this problem we see with a lot of European players. He’s not quite sure if he wants to come overseas to play in the NBA and join the Spurs. His contract with Barcelona is up after this season, and even though making the jump to the NBA would suit him fine, but now something else may be swaying his decision.

Another Euroleague team, Olimpia Milano, is going to try and sign Lorbek when his contract expires. Apparently he really likes playing overseas in Spain but he’s not making enough money. Will Milano be able to put up enough cash to satisfy the big man?

Nah splitter always wanted to come to the league. It was his contract overseas that was the problem.

I agree we are getting locked up at the 1/2. He might not be entirely ready. But I think it would be good to get him here to learn from Manu before he retires. While he's listed as a PG, he plays a lot of two. He can create like Manu can, he's just not as athletic.

ItalAggie. I'll just rebuttal with this:

quote:
“With this change, it’s much more interesting to me,” Lorbek, who is currently employed by FC Barcelona, told Mundo Deportivo (via Hoopshype). “My hope is to cross the Atlantic to play in the strongest league in the world.”

De Colo has actually been pretty impressive this season but you're right. He isn't very athletic and is pretty slow. He can shoot and has NBA range though. Hopefully he can work out in the future.
Sher Thing

I'm not saying that he would for sure come but I'd have to imagine he would at least take a look at it. With the international flare we have on the team already I think he would definitely be interested.

Tim Duncans mailbag (part 1)

quote:
I don't know what I'm going to do after basketball, thus far. I've got a couple more years to play, and I'm more focused on that than worrying about what I've got to do after basketball.

Obviously nothing shocking here but it definitely looks like he's going to stick around for a couple more years. Be interesting to see how they restructure his contract. He's still a 10-12 mil/yr player.
Enzo The Baker

I think he'll take anywhere from 5-8 million if we can better the team in the offseason. Don't know where exactly that would put us around the cap.
