Here's my dumb trade of the day. We facilitate Giannis staying in the East rather than going to Minnesota.

Grizzlies agree to move Ja for ending salary.

We send top 3 protected Hawks pick this year, ending contracts, and some seconds to get Wiggins and Portis, Milwaukee gets Herro and the young players from Miami and clears off all their long term salaries.

Miami still has Bam and Powell that they add Giannis, Ja, Kuz, and the Garys.

Plus Milwaukee gets 30M under the cap and can now accept a big contract in for draft capital like Jakob Poeltl and a 1st for cap space. They clean their cap sheets going forward with rookie contracts, small contracts and ending deals.

I can kind of see the logic if AD and Trae stay healthy.

You have two versatile bigs in AD and Sarr who are good enough defensively to cover up some of Trae's warts.

You surround the bigs and Trae with shooters (Tre Johnson and Kyshawn George) which should in theory make AD and Trae PnRs deadly with Sarr in the dunker spot.

They also have a lottery pick this year and now can make that pick knowing exactly what kind of player they want to compliment this roster that is now a win now team.

The 2 first are also crappy firsts. One is OKCs for this year which will be super late first, and the other is a 2030 GS pick that is top 20 protected. SO basically the Wizards pick up Davis for 2 late firsts and salary dumps. Basically, the risk here is minimal and you don't have to offer extensions to either of these guys because you bought low enough to let them walk if it doesn't work out.

Don Harris says spurs are having a tough time finding a home for Sochan as we don't want to attach draft capital. Could be a buyout candidate. Eeesh.

I don't think there's a market for Jeremy, but it would be easy to move him for someone if they needed to clear cap space and needed an ending contract.

A lot of the trade market we are dealing with has been hung up on the big names like ad, sabonis and Giannis.

Now that those dominoes are falling, the smaller pieces will fall as well, but a lot of teams don't want to make a move if they're holding out for a bigger piece.

Draft what ifs are pretty useless, but it sucks that there were good players on the board in the 2022 draft picked right after him and it looks like the Sochan pick has pretty much totally fizzled out at this point. Imagine Jalen Duren or Jalen Williams on this Spurs team.

Obviously the 2021 pick also was a waste.

The positive side is that losing was good for operation get Wemby.

Could be a move to let Sochan find a place with playing time for him to establish some value for himself for his free agency. From the fan perspective does t make sense, but as a franchise you are always subtly messaging to your team the kind of organization you are and what you do to take care of the guys on the roster. Think of a buyout here as an act of goodwill that could pay dividends by helping the image of the franchise.

That's why you do a buyout, it could save us a bit of money versus just waiving him. Say he's owed 4 million, we say, let us pay you 2.5 and you're now a free agent and can find some playing time.
