they made an entire SEASON out of a single day. kinda like HIMYM is doing this season with the wedding weekend. but not an entire SERIES.

Of course they went to Italy. It had to be what Lily wanted.

Overall, some pretty funny one-liners that made me laugh but like others I'm so over Lilly. I want to falcon punch her. I really hate her character, I hope it's her that dies.

Maybe I'm completely overthinking this, but maybe they were just on vacation in Italy?

I'd hate to live abroad for a year, with a toddler and pregnant wife/newborn, with my widowed mom, and divorced father-in-law.

Plus his mom still has family back home, she wouldn't just leave for an entire year, right?

And didn't Marshall mention something about bringing Funyons on the plane ride? I doubt they'd still have Funyons after being there almost a year, as the caption said "a year later".

My guess is they decided to take a vacation to Rome after her pregnancy was through and the baby was old enough to travel.

Yep I thought she was thinking of Ted and it pissed me off. My biggest complaint of the show is the Ted/Robin thing which should have ended years ago. we KNOW she's not the mom so there is no mystery to me. And even if she did somehow end up being the mom it would just piss everyone off at this point.

I watched online and it sucked because the episode title (Daisy) gave a lot away to me. It was obviously a preggers situation from the get go but I thought they played it well.

I think Robin will end up being the step-mom. The biological mother with die (they have already set that up), and Robin & Barney's marriage won't last (this latest episode set this up with her mom's description of Robin's dad who is basically Barney). The story biological mother has only been part of Ted's story for one season, while Robin was the focal point throughout it. Heck the first time he ever met Robin was the very first part of the whole story. I think his story to his kids is going to be his way of trying to get their approval for marrying Robin. I'm not saying I like that idea, I'm just saying that's my theory.

I think your theory is completely off base, though. There is literally zero support for there being a step-mom. Ever.

If Vegas would let me, I would put a ton money down that the mom isn't dying. Just watch the interview withe the actress a few posts above yours for proof of that. If I had to guess it was Ted's mom that was dying, or something completely unrelated with anyone dying.

I think the only reason the writers had that scene in Italian is to show that they had indeed been living there for a year and had learned the language. But seriously, screw that, the fact that they were having another baby should have cemented the fact they were staying in New York. I can't believe Marshall caved again. Ridiculous.

IF they did, we KNOW Marshall became a judge? How? He went back on his word. They'd give him another shot?

Yeah, I thought it was confirmed that Marshall became a judge when he won the seat on the state Supreme Court. Maybe he did it after Italy, who knows...

That whole dynamic was so screwed up by the writers. Lily's character had been an insufferable ***** since about the second season when she went to San Francisco and they turned Marshall's character, who was one of my favorite comedic characters on TV in the early seasons, into a whipped *****.

I just figured there would have been a more coherent plan from the writers for this last season. I'm guessing they just want to increase suspense for the finale, but the way they've gone about this season has been pretty awful.

I'm just saying that the main topic of the whole series (form the very 1st episode, all of the way through this season) has been Ted's pursuit of Robin. That is the one common theme. Now maybe they don't end up together by the time of the telling of the story, but the main story line of the show has still been about Ted's pursuit of Robin.

I didn't see that interview, and now that I have she certainly seems adamant that she won't die. But they sure did make it appear that they were going in that direction. I guess maybe it was just another attempt by them to head fake the viewers.

In the end I'm not sure I'll be ok with whatever way they close out the show. They've basically ruined the characters, apparently screwed up the story lines, and any ending they give it can't possibly live up to everyones expectations.

Lily's resume in an episode a few years ago said she was fluent in Italian FWIW. I think season five or six-ish.

that episode was terrible and them choosing Italy was completely idiotic and unrealistic.

I agree with most of this. I can just picture a ton of writers sitting in a giant circle-jerk thinking they're faking everyone out when all they have really done is destroyed the characters they built and made most resolution scenarios untenable with current and past story lines. The Ted/Robin thing has been tired and played out for several years now but they won't let it go.

There are a few ways I can see them getting out of it, but a last season head fake towards the Mom being dead is just a ridiculous attempt. Even if the last few seasons have lacked a clear direction and it seems like they couldn't figure out what resolution they wanted to go with, they said the creators have had the vision the entire time and that is the only thing that gives me hope that they may salvage the ending.

They both suck, along with whiny/pathetic Ted, Robin who they turned into a female version of Barney, and a castrated Barney. The writers have basically ruined all of the characters.
