I'm a tv snob but not going to apologize for enjoying that episode. This show has never been Breaking Bad.
The Ted story was entertaining, due in no small part to the hot Prof. The other stories were a bit meh.
Derek Jeter was perfect.

Was pleasantly surprised. Got a little afraid of this episode because the TV promos looked horrible.

Not related to the episode really, but I hate the inconsistency with Ted's character. Started off being a sports guy, had a couple season where he didn't know what a sport was, and now this season is going to Harlem Globetrotter games and watching NBA on the coach.
Have to admit this one had a lot of good lines and laughed a lot. I guess everything with the mother is gonna happen in the 22 hours before the wedding and the few hours after. I guess I was thinking that if we were gonna get to know the mother we see her a little more.
No reason for her to be there early just playing in the band. They did well in having her meet Barney in the flashback and Lily on the train.
The couple in the background at MacLaren's as the gang are cracking their Canada jokes.
He lied about watching the NBA. He was actually taking ice skating lessons.
Still, if it was something that he didn't normally do, Lilly would have called him on it, but she bought it.

Him and his dad all they talk about is the Indians, the whole March Madness episode. Ted definitely was a sports guy then he turned into scrap booking, and ink pen writing...
Yeah, they've been inconsistent about it. He said something about "costumes" instead of uniforms once. But yet he only talks baseball with his dad and Barney always razzes him about Lebron.
I'm probably the last person to learn the mother was in that ford commercial.

i don't know about a ford commercial, but she was johnny sac's anorexic daughter in the sopranos.

It was the end of Season 8, episode 1 "Farhampton".
It's hard to believe that it was just a coincidence. The song is "The Funeral" by Band of Horses. wild
On the sports end, Ted sems like a typical guy who tries to be in the know about sports. I know a couple of these...aside from baseball (which we all kind of follow as kids) all he seems to know about the NBA is Lebron, he mentions always losing the March Madness pool, and only watches the Super Bowl. These are bigger cultural references than anything else, aside from the baseball references for the Indians, I could talk to my wife about all of those things...and she has no real affinity for sports whatsoever.
They probably picked her to be the mother BECAUSE of the commercial. Young, new york, looking at architecture (Ted). They used the song for us to subconsciously remember and start debating the conspiracy that they knew back then.
+ she eerily looks like a X between Lilly and Robin.
