Fun story, but did anyone else notice that they gave the Mother's name away all the way back in season one?

There was that episode with the thanksgiving dinner at the strip club, and at the end Ted introduces himself to a stripper who says that her name isn't really Strawberry (or something), it's "Tracy"? Nice to see they carried that all the way through...

Also hated it. I did love Ted's comment about keeping the story short though. That exchange with his kids was probably about the only thing he did in character the whole episode after the waiting on the train scene.

What a stupid finale. No payoff for sticking with this stupid show. Terribly predictable. I knew exactly what was going to happen.

I can kind of appreciate how they tied back all the robin stuff and why we suffered through that. Started with her, ended with her. That's why there were so many robin stories. I get it. But no, stupid. The execution was terrible and all of the other storylines were painful. I never want to watch reruns, what miserable characters they became.

The episode wasn't even funny. The meeting was great but stretches of that episode were just brutal.

Seriously, that nonsense makes me never want to watch television again.

Back to just sports.

I didn't hate this finale. I really don't know why y'all are so upset. It's not like this was Mad Men or Breaking Bad. All this ever was was a silly show about some friends and the dumb stuff they did with a few 'heart warming' episodes along the way. If you were only watching for the mother story, well, lol.

I was being a bit dramatic. I kept watching the show through the terrible episodes to see how they resolved the series. It was a letdown. And another disappointing episode

1. The show should not have been named How I Met Your Mother.

2. Believing in the final episode that Ted would wait until 5 years after his first child to marry the mother required a suspension of disbelief in Ted's personality that I didn't have after so many years of the series. Especially after he cancelled his big move away from New York hours after meeting her. His impulsive, romantic nature would have led him at least to go to the court house and get it done.

3) Believing that Ted still wanted to date Robin all those years after marrying Barney and ignoring the group while globetrotting and six years after the mother died, was a tad more believeable, but really pathetic IMHO.

4) I hadn't watched a lot of the final two or three seasons, only caught it periodically, but the final season being all about Robin and Barney's wedding was a beatdown. I would have rather watched a season of Ted actually dating the mother.

5) The mother's wedding dress was WAAAAAY better than Robin's wedding dress.

6) The show as a whole was still better than 75% of what is currently on television.

Yeah, I don't think most people have issues with anything in that list. It was more the execution than the actual premise...

I liked it. The entire show was about a group of 5 friends. I always thought the journey to meet the mother was simply a framework to keep the show moving while the group has their adventures/life moments. For this reason, I don't really care that the last episode did not feature the mother as much as everyone else would have liked.

Two endings that could have been better:

1. The mother walks into the study and says something like "If you take any longer telling this story, I'll be dead." They only said that she was sick until toward the end of the episode. It still would have been a slight twist since everyone was so sure that she was dead.

2. Barney walks into the room and asks Ted where he keeps the luxury sheets/etc. The mother is dead, and Barney and Ted are raising their kids together. They once had a discussion of raising a kid together, and now Ted is living in a big house that is a bit more empty than he would like. Barney is a new father and is changing his ways. Moving to the suburbs could have been part of that change. They would also both be there for each other, and Barney could rub it in Marshall's face that he is closer to Ted.

They should have extended the episode to show him bang Aunt Robin, profess his undying love, and the next day she rejects him to focus on her career.

This would have been way more in keeping with both characters.

And then it ends with Ted and Barney living together, while Marshall sinks into a deep depression after giving up his career as a judge so that Lily can open an art gallery for children in Paris.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
ending was terrible.

Yea, after Dad tells kids about how he met their mom, they (especially the daughter) are going to react with big smiles and say the story wasn't about meeting poor dead mom but how he loves Aunt Robin and needs to marry her.

No sadness or sentimentality about their mom just enthusiasm for Aunt Robin. Ted has done a lousy job raising them since Mom died.

FYI about those wondering about the match-making episode (S1E21), Ted was outside of the bar but decided not to go on the date with the "perfect girl" who played bass, etc. because of his hangup with Robin. He then tells Marshall and Lily that he "doesn't want perfect, he wants Robin." Ugh get over it Teddy Westside.

Marshall then proceeds to say "Not this again. Ted it's a mistake!" He knew it was bad in season 1. Ted should have listened to the judge.

Robin wasn't right for Ted in their 20s and 30s or 40s. In their 50s, she was.

no problem with that but you don't end the show with their reaction of blowing off the part of the story about mom.

I'll say this was the problem with taping the ending so many years ago.
