This is called writing for a scene, not story. Was all set up to get that 'epic' Beth scene going after a woman that is 1) with her dad and 2) the opposite of everything she/they represent. Made zero sense for John to give 2 ****s about that woman at the protest.

This was one of the plot lines I was thinking of when I commented that several characters are acting, well, out of character. Everything about this was out of character-from bailing her out of jail to leaving her in the middle of nowhere to walk.

And didn't Beth tell him to get some literally the episode before and when he does, she immediately wants to stab her in the heart?
