This is a very fun show with mostly good acting to be sure, but you really have to suspend disbelief or you'll drive yourself crazy with the misses and inconsistencies.

It's a primetime soap opera. Gotta get in that mindset and then it's fun. But plot holes, cheesy acting, eye-rolling dialogue and dead people brought back to life are just going to be a thing.

It's a little surprising though considering Sheridan's background

I used to agree but the more I thought about it, it makes sense imo. TV is a different medium. This show is capturing such a wide viewing audience and that's due to those elements at play. His experience on SoA, etc. plays into that for sure.

Also, the opening scene with the Indians…. I'm pretty sure they cow they killed and were "butchering" was already lying on the ground when the Duttons rode up. (Not to mention the one the Duttons left behind was a lighter tan color and the one on the ground was dark)

But I'm all in on watching. Just pointing out a few careless missed details.

That was the native Americans dad wrapped up when he rode up they were trying to bury.

Don't forget my favorite soap opera trope -- a completely new character played by the same actor/actress of a previously killed off character.

Yes! Love that! So who comes back as someone else? Neal McDonough I hope. He's a great bad guy.

YouTube plot post thinks McDonough is who is behind the attack. Bases his theory on the fact we never saw McDonough's character actually die.

That's what Rip said to Kaycee. Sorry, the theory that Kaycee isn't alive seems false.

This isn't GoT. You can't kill off key characters on a show like this where there are about 7 main characters.

Rourke's had to go but they'll replace him with hobbit white hair lady. The oldest Dutton son was killed in the Pilot.

GoT could do it because there was about 100 characters and tons of plot lines.

Killing John, Kaycee, Rip, Beth, etc. would have put major holes in the show. Jimmy dying probably wouldn't have mattered but whatever.

What was on fire in episode 1? I thought it was Rip's house. What got burned down?

The intro to this has always reminded me of the intro to Deadwood. Sans the woman getting in the bathtub.

Yes it was.

When John comes home from the hospital and talks to Beth on the porch, John tells Beth she should live in the lodge (main house) until they figure this out. Beth responds that they were now living in the "foreman's house" and John says good the cabin is too remote. Beth says....they killed the cabin too daddy.

Their house was the cabin they had built for them. Now they are back in the foreman's house which is where Rip lived before they got married.

It was Rip's house. I'm pretty sure they showed his house reduced to ashes. He and Beth are back to living in the foreman's cabin.

I like the show and understand it is what it is, but man I hope we can now go a few episodes without the Taylor Sheridan Horse Extravaganza. We get it dude.

Shootout scene at the end was dumb and pointless.

Cattle guard scene was funny but ridiculous (I know we're always going to get a certain level of ridiculous so I'll lean towards funny and suspend my logic brain for a while)

Hunting down the militia guys at the beginning was entertaining.

Seems like they would have been concerned about crossfire with police on both sides of the militia guys in the truck.

Noticed that as well and immediately thought "wonder how many bullet holes Kayce put into those cruisers behind that truck?"

Also on my good/funny list was Beth's four ways to make it in the world. When he asked what the fourth was, I thought she was going to say something like marry it or marry up. Her response surprised me (just a little) and made me laugh.

And also on my "stupid" list is the clubhouse leader in stupid for the show: Monica. That whole scene was annoying and eye roll. Casey shakes the freaked-out-under-the-bed-for-weeks kid a few good times, hugs him and tells him it's alright, and the boy bebops over and eats dinner like nothing's wrong in the world. Meanwhile mama now hates the guy she's been banging everywhere for the last season and a half and is back to season one levels of loathing and bitterness.

Amen to that!! Absolutely the worst part of the show.

Back to another subject, what was it that John stopped to pick up after the shoot out at the end?

Thought it was a bullet.
He ejected the round in the pipe and dropped the mag and threw it off to the side so he could make the shootout a fair fight.

Probably because it would be odd to find an unused expelled round at the scene of a murder. The other casings would be logical. Although if you are really covering your tracks you get rid of the weapon.

Is the show alluding to the fact John believes Jamie is the one who set the hit up by going through the prison contact? As in Jamie's biological father is the one that helped put things in motion?

My guess is Jamie's dad is behind it but unbeknownst to Jamie.

I can see both ways on this, but Jamie's comment to Rip about "don't call me" leads me a bit to the "Jamie knew" side.

Maybe my timeline is a bit off but didn't the hits on the family come around the exact same time Jamie met his father? It is convenient that he wasn't targeted but that could be explained by the fact that he was playing along with Market Equities and no one else in the family was. His father wouldn't have known Jamie was all of a sudden going to find him out of the blue at roughly the same time all of the meltdown kicked off. They may end up spinning it that way with Roark having to bail from the show suddenly but it was heavily implied that he was going to be behind it with the former CEO telling him to get dirty and take it as far as it needed to go.
