I enjoyed that episode more than I have several of the previous ones.

John kind of feels like an affable sociopath. The only thing that matters is what he wants, consequences to others be damned. He makes the rules as he sees fit as he goes along. Beth is definitely his child in that regard. He also has an idea that the plot of land he owns is the result of less than honorable dealings by his ancestors, and leans on a promise to justify anything he does. Every once in a while he dabbles in morality/charity, but he does that sparingly, just dips a toe in.

With Beth and John at a tenuous position it puts Rip in a bad spot. If push comes to shove, he's not going to go against John, even for Beth, the woman he loves. I could see that happening. Beth had a point when she showed him her scarred up back, why is John not going scorched earth on every person responsible for hurting his daughter?

Even though they haven't said what John's relationship with Jamie's biological father is I'm sure it's coming, maybe in the finale. I don't think that it's John's sister that was Jamie's mother, wouldn't that have been found out when Jamie got his real birth certificate? My hunch is that he is possibly a branded man who grew up with John, perhaps he was branded by John's dad. If it's a member of John's family it could easily be a cousin, then they don't have to worry about a last name that isn't Dutton.

Based on the teaser it looks like Jimmy is going to have to choose between the two women he's gotten close to. I feel like the choice has got to be the vet down in Texas. But as a branded man it's not going to matter, he belongs to the Yellowstone, that's what he gets. I would have preferred a straight up spin-off of Jimmy's time at the 6666, that's a show I would have loved. I was bummed when Jimmy was told he's going back.

Congratulations for finally discovering the greatest show of all time!

I don't know if Sheridan took his best writers and moved them to other projects or they got hired away, but the writing has slipped considerably. Show is still well above average, but all signs are pointing in a downward direction.

And, I don't give a crap about cutting horses, but Sheridan sure does. I will be ok when that sidebar story goes away, but it probably won't.

All the buildup this season has been so spread out, there is nothing that makes sense for a good season finale. There are villains, but none that feel a threat of any kind. There are stories, but Jimmy coming home isn't finale worthy. It's all just kind of been there as if it's a 20+ episode season. Any big finale or cliffhanger is just to create some faux drama because this season arc has been crap.

Beth jumped the shark for me back when she was being raped in her office. Dudes beat her to a pulp, killed her assistant in front of her, and are about to rape and kill her. And she's completely unfazed and dropping needle richard one liners on the dude. Hard to take the character seriously after that.
