GiveSendGo has now surpassed $400K with a new listed goal of $500k. I believe the original goal was $100K and each time the goal is met, the goal posts move and higher a goal is entered.
And the higher the retainers for defense counsel go. All for naught.

I don't think this even goes to trial. Plea deal for manslaughter, heat of the moment type, ten years, out in five with good behavior, maybe even less than five.

No reason to take it to trial.

The more a see and read about this case, the more concerned I get for the fallout. I have yet to hear anyone use any sort of legal defense for self defense. I've heard different police officers and attorneys discuss how he has no prayer for self defense. Many who stand behind Karmelo have decided it was 100% self defense, that anything negative they have read about Austin is true (he had been bullying Karmelo for days/weeks/months leading up to the stabbing even though they didn't know each other, that he broke Karmelo's phone and stomped on it even though the police report has nothing about a broken phone nor do any of the witness statements up to this point, Austin and Hunter jumped Karmelo but no witness statements say a punch was even thrown and there are clearly no marks on Karmelo in his mug shot) and Karmelo was just a poor honor student pushed to the brink and fearing for his life. I have heard some DAs (not in Collin County) say they don't see how the Collin County DA can plea this out and appease both sides. If that's the case and this goes to trial, Karmelo is doing time. Probably real time. They might be able to get it down to manslaughter which would mean anywhere from 2-20 years in prison, but that's his absolute best case scenario. He's looking at doing real time in a state pen. Will Karmelo's supporters let that go without riots? I doubt it.

Tell me if I'm wrong.
One difference. This is Texas. Not Minnesota, nor Seattle, Portland, nor Wisconsin. It is not in Austin, which could be more tolerant of such demonstrations, using that term tongue in cheek.

Try that crap in Frisco? Quick way to find out firsthand what a "well armed militia" means.
I'm not so much worried about Frisco but Dallas? Denton? DeSoto? Cedar Hill? Those worry me.

Dad should file a wrongful death civil suit and make sure that murderer never sees a dime

You forget how dumb the left is in Dallas?

It's not Dallas.

It's Frisco

There is a difference.

If any rioters want to do it they will move their happy butts to Dallas. But if they try that in Frisco.....good luck

Right. Because all that money is coming from Frisco and not the hood of Dallas or Houston. And the only place the St Floyd riots happened was the ghetto where a fake bill was passed by a drug dealer.

So when do we march in Frisco with signs saying No Justice No Peace, burn down the city and loot stores? I'm sure all of this was covered at the last white supremacist meeting. I'm just asking because I need to ask for vacation in advance. It sucks not being paid to protest and having to be a real actual member of society.

I disagree with you that simply being there is its own evidence he was there to provoke a fight.

However, I almost guarantee you when all is said and done, that is the case!

I don't know if he went looking to murder someone, but to me, it's a very assumption that he went looking for trouble! (Which by the way, makes no difference here as he still murdered someone)
It's not simply being there. It's the refusal to leave when asked and being in possession of the stabby stick and saying "Touch me and see what happens." parts that are evidence he was there to provoke a fight.

And in possession of stabby thing at a school function where weapons are generally not allowed.

No reason for him to have it as a student.

A pocket knife would be understandable on the street but for a student to have one at a track meet....that one is difficult to explain.

Unless the blade was over 5.5" long (a location restricted knife in the Texas Penal Code), legally it is irrelevant. School rules for students don't apply with regard to the law.

I suspect it was less than 5.5" since I have heard nothing about a charge for UCW.

That would be amazing work by the defense. But if I was the prosecutor, no way I would offer 10 on manslaughter. I think I could convict him of murder and get at least 25 at trial and he would have to go to trial to get less than that from me.

He will not be out in less than 5 because under no foreseeable circumstance would they offer a single digit number and because of the deadly weapon finding, he must serve at least half and will not make his first parole.

If the Collin County DA offers up 10 years on this, his political career is over.

I'm with you. No way that happens.

Thanks. People hire me because I always shoot them straight and that is the advice I would be giving Karmelo. A 20 to 25 plea offer would be hard to turn down or beat at a trial. It is all downside risk.

His only viable defense is to hope for jury nullification.

He will not get heat of passion because I have never seen that successfully argued outside of the family context. Imperfect self defense is a unique animal in Texas that requires deadly force to still be justified and proportional, but gives you that defense if you were the initial provocateur. He will not get manslaughter because this was intentional, not reckless conduct.

He is fooooked.

Do you think the DA will offer a plea or is it in his best interest, given the publicity, to take this to trial?

When I was a Texas felony prosecutor, I always made an offer. It might be one I knew they wouldn't take to bait them into trial, but I always made one.

Depending on the video, I couldn't imagine offering less than 30. 25 should be a take for the defense.

The only plea deal that should be happening is to spare the death penaltly. Personally I think this kid should get the chair.

As I understand it, the Supreme Court will not allow the death penalty or even life without parole.

100% did. About to' milk this kid for millions. You've seen the victim blaming all through this thread. Setting the table to make that kid a David Hogg of sorts. The left continuing to make heroes out of murderers is really amazing to watch.

Anthony being alive may be the only thing slowing down statue construction.

Though there are many, one of the more particularly insidious things IMO about this is that the race baiters and "leaders" of BLM are upset the death penalty is off the table.

They'd love nothing more than to have Anthony as a false martyr to grift for years and years
