Maybe this time it finally happens?

Some were calling for the return of the Shah.
It's not hard to see one of the main reasons why they are ticked off. We talk about inflation; this is inflation.
Quote:

The Iranian rial has fallen to a new record low against the U.S. dollar. Official data show year-on-year inflation reached 52.6% in December, while average annual inflation was 42.2%.

As we reported, there are also severe water and energy shortages.

Hopefully Putin says no here (not real sure what the Russians could do anyway). Iran is cash poor now (thanks in part to VZ oil/drug embargo, and the price of oil overall). Babak above has a lot more images etc. on his twitter timeline. This isn't an isolated Tehran university protest, imho.

If we could somehow pull the super-trifecta of Iran/Cuba/Venezuela falling and also substantially defund UNRWA that is a lot of terrorism/totalitarian oppression that could collapse in the world in short order.

It's about as likely as anyone serving jail time for the crimes against Trump in his first term. Okay, it is more likely than that.

LOL, good reference. I just wish I could vehemently disagree.

The massive currency devaluation after the stagflation, and then the water shortage (failed state planning) seem to have been triggers.

I also wish our congress critters might think about this situation.

Asking Putin for help.
Hell, hes still in his 3 Day war 4 years later. Might as well ask Cuba for help.

Iran needs to get rid of Islam, go back to their ancient religion and call themselves Persia or whatever again,

Islam ruined this great civilization.

So what's the latest on the water shortage? The last update from Iran was that if they didn't get rain by Jan 1 they were going to have to start evacuating Tehran.

Wow. I wonder who's behind this since USAID isn't a thing anymore. Maybe these protests are actually real.

It's good to see things like this over there. It's been over fifty years since Iran was as close to being "Western" as any country in that part of the world.

Here's to hoping this moves the needle toward that.

These protests are occurring all over Iran the last 48 hours.

My twitter feed is filled with videos of the citizens yelling at the Islamic Republic and calling for the return of Reza Pahlavi!

The Mossad posted in Farsi that they are literally in the crowds supporting the Iranian people!

This is why this isn't a real threat to Iran. Most of those protesting don't want to overthrow the government they want to overthrow the current leaders. These protesters want a better functioning theocracy, they aren't seeking freedom for their sisters and daughters.

USAID provided a TON of funds to the mullah regime in various ways, including their proxies Hezbollah, UNRWA, and Hamas. That lack of cash (to say nothing of Obama's pallets of cash in the middle of the night), and our funding to Maduro etc. are precisely what the problem has been this year for them.

(Added hilarity: "This video, which CNN cannot authenticate.")
Translated from German:
Quote:

John Kerry, Federica Mogherini and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Mullah Regime Appeasers, who bear the main responsibility for the conclusion of the nuclear deal and who thereby ensured that the terror regime in Tehran could survive.

Not in the photo: Barack Hussein Obama, who handed over 1.7 billion dollars in cash to the mullahs so that they could finance their global jihad.

Never forget and never forgive!

Yep, kind of like Aggie Football...maybe my kids kids will one day be able to witness something actually happening to the monsters who rape humanity...or at least experience a national title appearance (not even asking for a win, just an appearance...actually, maybe one day we can just win one game of any significance).

Trump just gave the green light yesterday at Mar A Lago for the Israelis to strike Iran again (both ballistic missile production and nuclear program)

they are likely waiting to see what happens with these protests.

the Iranian Rial is 1,420,000 to the American dollar today!! and they will face more water shortages in a few months in Teheran

It will take civil war and buckets of blood to throw off the current rulers. I doubt the Iranian people are willing to die for it.

it's pretty exciting that after 40 years we bombed their nuclear reactor at Fordow and the Israelis took out their plants at Natanz and all across the country.

plus the Israeli Air Force destroyed every F-14 and Cobra Chopper the Iranians might have used against their own civilians.

I don't think that is the case anymore.

Islamic Republic can no longer count on Lebanese Hizbullah to mow down their Iranian citizens because the Israelis killed off a thousand of their best fighters

they can't count on Syria sending help because Assad is deposed and hiding in Moscow.

so they are left with Iraqi Hizbullah.

if 3 million people go into the streets and start taking over police stations there is no way to control that.

You don't think the regime will escape via private jet to Russia like an Ole Miss coach escapes to Louisiana?

You big-spelled Bashar Assad. That would be the second best possible outcome, no doubt. Hopefully that's what they were negotiating with Putin, his take-rate on wealth/property/bank accounts they flee with.

Got me to wondering. .

The crown prince only has daughters. If he came back and is crowned Shah, is his younger brother the new crown prince?

By the way - Reza's oldest daughter.

Sasanic, Medes, Parthian, it's a pretty…long history, especially for a message board. No reason to think the Carter-pal mullahs are some sort of final long term rulers, nor for that matter as terrifying/enduring as Cyrus the great. The Hardcore History podcast got me hooked on some of this crap.

If the Shia caliphate of terror somehow breaks, it could be good news though for many.
