Trump is saying Iran is reaching out to the US requesting negotiation. They want to go back and discuss a new Nuclear deal. Will Trump agree and let the Ayotollah off the hook if he gets what he wants in a Nuke deal and start lifting sanctions? That seems like a tough pill to swallow after so many people died protesting for regime change.

I don't think Trump is big enough of an idiot to take anything Iran says seriously.bonfarr said:

Respectfully, that guy's a clown. If the Iranians are moving ANY gear around right now, day or night, we are watching it closely and quite likely want them to be in movement so we know where exactly it is.

Walk through any major city during Ramadan and everyone around you is eating, smoking and drinking.

History offers a warning. Yugoslavia long presented itself as and was widely understood to be a pluralistic, multiethnic state. Many Yugoslavs embraced that identity sincerely. Yet when the regime collapsed in the early 1990s, the identity dissolved almost overnight. People called themselves Yugoslavs one day only to wake up the next as Serbs, Croats or Bosnians. Such arrangements can persist for decades until, suddenly, they do not. Long-suppressed ethnic identities surfaced, and politics turned violent.
In Yugoslavia, the hegemonic Serbs made up roughly 36 percent of the population. In Iran, Persians account for a larger share but are almost certainly still a minority. A 2010 Iranian government study put them at 47 percent.
Iran's ethnic geography sharpens the stakes. Persians dominate the central plateau around Tehran and Isfahan. Minority populations concentrate along the borders more accurately, astride them bound by language, culture and history to communities just across the frontier. Azerbaijanis cluster in the northwest along Azerbaijan and Turkey; Kurds in the west face Kurdish regions of Iraq and Turkey; Arabs in the oil-rich southwest look toward Iraq; Baluch in the southeast connect to kin in Pakistan and Afghanistan; Turkmen in the north border Turkmenistan.

Referring to the US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites last June, which was launched during Iran's 12-day war with Israel, Trump warned: "The next attack will be far worse! Don't make that happen again."
Earlier on Wednesday, before Trump's comments, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said: "Conducting diplomacy through military threat cannot be effective or useful."
"If they [the US] want negotiations to take shape, they must certainly set aside threats, excessive demands and raising illogical issues," he said in televised remarks, translated by the AFP news agency.

More naval assets are available but let's not interrupt your snickering while you regurgitate Newsweek talking points.

How? Currency collapse, huge poverty rate, unemployment, water resource mismanagement and on and on. Throwing more money at them hasn't worked.

My mother in law in Tehran was able to call us from her landline this week. Landlines are assumed to be monitored by the Islamist occupiers of Iran, so we stuck to pleasantries and talking about her future grandson (doodle tala). The Iranian diaspora is getting frustrated with the President. I am hopeful that Trump will take decisive action soon, and that it will be a highly effective action. I am generally considered a CM or something left of that on this board, but I fully support the President on this topic and understand no other president would be able to pull off bringing hope and freedom to the people of occupied Iran.
