Welp I thought we were going to smash them. We didn't. But the win is what matters.

Considering that we literally gave them two goals, that was a pretty pathetic Liverpool performance.

This match was a microcosm of Carrick in charge.

Came out, controlled the match and get up. Make a change at HT (that I guess he had to?), come out completely out of sorts and give out 2 shambolic goals. Then the guy buried by Amorim who had been resurrected by Carrick scores the winner.

One of the things very evident is just how thin the squad is. They are not equipped to play in CL (and FA and Gummy Bear cup) next season. They need so much more depth.

Ok. Now they know the money they have for next season. Now they need to start early and spend wisely. Last year was a very good year with Cunha, Mbeuno and Sesko. Then the GK fix with Lammens which may have been the biggest add of all. I would take a repeat of that with 4 players that all contribute and were positive adds.

Freaking spurs are going to weasel out of this aren't they?

Villa getting dominated at home by this Spurs team should be a point deduction. They haven't even managed a shot on goal.

I have no idea how they've managed to (in spite of this performance) virtually lock up a top 5 spot and make it to the EL semis. They have been a below average team for 5 months.

We need to use the next 3 games well. Don't mail it in, but give minutes to some academy players or normal bench players. Mazraoui, Mount, Zirkzee- can we use them next year for the increased load of games or not? It needs to be intentional with how we start looking into 26-27.

I'd rather get West Ham's Fernandes more than anyone at Spurs. (I said way back in the winter I liked him even though we hadn't been linked to him then, but now there is plenty of paper talk, including a story a couple weeks ago that Bruno was pushing his name internally. They paid quite a bit for him so he won't be ultra-cheap even if they go down, but I do like him. We are also linked to their left back, Diouf, but I'm not sticking my own neck out on him.)

Anyway, I'm fine with Spurs staying up. I don't want any of their players too much.

Chelsea's loss leaves them in 9th with virtually no chance at making the CL (they can still do it if they manage to leap frog 3 teams in the final 3 games and Villa finish 5th while winning the EL). Reminded me that it's been about 4 months since United were the crisis club in the league. That's gotta be our longest spell since EtH's first season. Long may it last.

If there's anyone we want, Chelsea probably need to sell, but they seem to price their players so expensively, and then they just ship whatever they don't want but can't sell to Strasbourg. (Garnacho should start learning French now).

At one point Palmer was a sheik pick to replace Bruno but at this point, I neither want to replace Bruno nor replace him with Palmer after the season he's had. Pretty much every player at Chelsea has a question mark after this season.

But it is looking increasingly likely that a 6th English team will qualify. Villa are in the EL final which means they are likely to tank the game against Liverpool that is 4 days before the final. They are highly likely to finish 5th or at worst 6th. Either way, winning the EL would put 6 English teams in the CL. Would be wild to see any of Bournemouth, Brentford, or Brighton in the CL.

Wonder if Iraola is having some second thoughts about leaving Bournemouth with the clubs looking likely to play CL football this next season.

I don't want to replace Bruno with Palmer. But, I would love to have Palmer on our squad. His season has not been great. That seems to be down to the fact that Chelsea have zero leadership.

Yeah, I wouldn't discard Palmer based on this season at Chelsea. That is a dumpster fire. But I don't know that there is a player in the game right now who I would trade for Bruno.

I think last year Palmer wouldn't have wanted to come to us. (I also thought it was Bruno that was looking at the crazy Saudi money even though he eventually turned it down; we aren't upgrading on Bruno. This year has been one of his best, admittedly).

If you were going for Palmer, he's more a goal scorer than a creator. If Bruno left, it might be that Cunha moves over instead and you try to find a wide creator for the left. But I don't think Bruno will leave this year since we are back in UCL. The creative central midfielder is becoming more rare, strangely enough.

Btw, there was a dust up between Valverde and Tchouameni in training on Wednesday and Thursday, with an altercation after training ended Thursday ending with Valverde getting put in concussion protocol. Valverde is at least missing El Classico this weekend. Today, both were fined 500K euros.

The Athletic put out an article that states sources said that the two would not likely be able to continue both playing at RM. This relates to us because reports last week from the United writers at the Athletic already linke Tchouameni as a possible transfer for United.

RM is a train wreck. The players already won when Xavi Alonso got canned when he couldn't get them to play asa team. The reports that Perez wants to bring back Mourinho would only make it a bigger train wreck. No way those players play in his rigid system and style.

I for one am all for watching the train wreck.

Yeah it's nuts. Alvarro Carreras (formerly Fernandes) our academy player that we sold to Benfica under ETH who is now at RM, had an altercation with Rudiger. I saw something saying he got slapped, but then I think that was denied. I wish the kid luck, but… little bit of a physical mismatch there.

I don't know. He had that clause where there was an automatic extension if he started all remaining games. I think he said he wasn't going to enforce it, but maybe they just decided to make certain, and maybe nothing was signed.

Either way, this game doesn't really matter.

The VAR was gutless. Just gutless. That was 110% an intentional elbow strike to the head as the SUN player came from behind and passed Bruno.

To say it wasn't is just gutless. One of the things VAR was supposed to do was eliminate that kind of dirty behind the back/off the ball VC.

And to make it worse I'm out on a set of fields managing refs for a tourney. We were between games and everyone was standing around me and my iPad watching it. I had to explain to everyone that this play is VC and if they see that they need to have the courage to call it.

English refereeing is so bad in how they manage this type of behavior.

I sure wish we were seeing better play to finish out the season. Our guys have played half as many games as other top teams. Carrick needs a better run in.
