Keep telling yourself that pal. Outside of OKC, LA and the Clippers, the Mavs now have as much talent as anyone else in the West. It's quite possible that Carlisle pulls a Pop and puts all these pieces together to make a bad ass team, especially if Kaman can play like he did in '10, and Mayo and Collison play with a chip on their should showing that they deserve to start in the NBA.

You some how left out the team that had the best record in the west and didn't lose anyone while gaining depth.

The same as it affects Dirk...at some point you don't gain experience, but instead start to lose productivity. Duncan had a resurgence this year in the playoffs, but his stats are a far cry from what he used to be, or even up to his career averages. Same with Dirk.

Ok now I've hard it all...so the mavs are now better than San Antonio and Carlisle could "pull a pop"? You do know that Pop is one of the best coaches in the game today, if not the very best. By your own post you admit that Kamen has to revert back to his 2010 and prior form and mayo and collison have to "play with a chip on their shoulder."

The mavs at best will be no better than 7th, ad more than likely fighting to stay in the playoffs by year's end. Spin this offseaons all you want to.

It's been proven time and time again that the only joy you get is by watching the mavs struggle, you try and deny their success at every turn, and even winning the title didn't shut you up.

Why can't you just move on? I'm sorry Dallas controls so much space in your puny little dome of a head, but maybe if you could get over that every once in a while you would actually enjoy watching your own team play.

I do think this was an upgrade.

I think Dirk moves to his natural 3 position with Brand at 4 and Kama.n at 5. Marion and carter come off bench.

Dirk guards the 3 worse than the 4, and that was when he was 7 years younger.

I was extremely depressed for a while there, then they pulled all these nice moves out their butt. I think we would have to have dirk go insane again to do anything in the playoffs, but at least we will play good basketball most likely.

The only reason LeBron hasn't been shut down yet is because Dirk hasn't guarded him before.

Lebron was shut down in last years 2011 NBA Finals.

You save Marion for the bench. Who has the ability to stop 3 big men like that? In the 4th quarter, when 99% of games are still tight, you bring have the ability to out score a team or play defense. Very versatil team. The hole is a true 3 like Marion 5 years ago.

Dirk can't play the 3, end of story. Not only can he not guard the 3 AT ALL, but what do you do with Kaman and Brand when Dirk posts up? He'd be getting doubled every time. Dirk can shoot, but he's not a perimeter player. Playing him at the 3 is absurd.

No no I see where stefny is going with this. While the rest of the NBA goes small, the Mavs should focus on playing PF/C at 1-5. Who could match up against 5 bigs like that? Dirk at the point, Kaman at the 2, Wright at the 3, Brand at the 4, and James at the 5.

Good plan SA09. Now that you lay out the strategy like that, I'm really glad we didn't sign Deron.

I was speaking on talent. Not on results. I think we all know that talent wise the Spurs are 4th in the West at best. Pop gets the most out of his system and players.

I really think with the additions of Collison, Mayo, Kaman and Brand, the Mavs are on the same level talent-wise as both the Spurs and Memphis, or at least very very close.

The Mavs now have 5 starters all capable of putting up double digit points on a consistent basis, as well as 2 or 3 coming off the bench. The Mavs also have 2 All Stars in the Summer League (Do Jo and Crowder) and that is without Cunningham (who GS says was the steal of the draft).

We'll see how Carlisle puts together the team. We all know he is a great coach. Like Judge said, with the talent they have and Carlise coaching, the Mavs could be one of the top 3 or 4 teams in the West. OKC and LA are loaded so it will be hard to compete with those two. The Clippers less so but they still have Paul and Griffin.
