I'd much rather Brand, as I think he fits more of a need -- someone who can play any low-post defense whatsoever.

With a front court like that it's a shame we didn't trade for Nash and Morrison.

Can we convince Rodman to come back?

I bet Popeye Jones and Sam Cassell are available.

Marion and Dirk are really the only two guys left from the 2011 Finals team. Dojo and Buckets don't count.

i still have hope for the return of the Custodian! don't count him out yet!!

He did help us win the 2011 Finals by hurting DWade.

Same here.

Re-sign West and we have a decent starting line-up, and a decent big-man rotation. I'm interested in seeing what the rookies can do. Although I hear Cunningham might miss some of the summer league play. Hamstring?

I think if Kaman stays healthy(big IF) then we'll be in decent shape at the center spot. Rotate James/Wright.

SG is going to be a big question mark

The Mavs have an outstanding working relationship with Fegan, who also represents Jason Terry, Shawn Marion and Erick Dampier among others.

So he represents Terry who just left the Mavs after not being matched and Dampier who had (at least the consensus on this board) the worst contract in Mavs history costing the team Nash and that equates to a good working relationship?

Sounds like the Mavs won the Elton Brand bidding with a bid of $2.1 million.

I think pre-Brand they had ~$6mil to use. Now maybe they can sign a SG worth a ****, who I'd much prefer over Scola

Definitely need SG. I think we should re-sign Delonte.

i hope they get delonte back. dude is tough as nails, can play defense. we are going to need it with collison at point.

ill take collison and delonte in the backcourt. a much better consolation prize when you consider at this time last week our backcourt was roddy b, jared cunningham and dominique jones.

Do Jones had 32 last night in Vegas. Crowder and James both had 9 points. Jones and James both had 9 boards.

Maybe the lighbulb has finally gone on for Jones. Hope so.

I second re-signing Delonte. We need him at the 2 and as a back-up at the 1.

REALLY need DoJo to have an impact this season. If he is still bouncing back and forth between Dallas and Frisco, that will not be good. He needs to be what DeShawn was for us two years ago.

32 points on 25 shots in the summer league is nothing to get too excited about. i really hope we don't have to rely on him too much this season. maybe we can package him with buckets and get some practice basketballs or used nets or something?

Dumber than signing Dampier to 6y/60mm while giving Nash the finger? Dumber than signing Haywood in the first place to that ridiculous contract?

I always hear people make this really ignorant statement.

Mark Cuban is dumb because he let Steve Nash walk and signed Erick Dampier to a big contract.

Do you acknowledge that in the three years after the Mavs let Nash walk they accomplished the following things:

1. A record of 58-24, 60-22, and 67-15.

2. Won the Western Conference for the first time in 2006.

3. Beat the Defending Champion San Antonio Spurs in Game 7. Won a Game 7 on the road in San Antonio.

4. Became the only team of the past decade outside of the Lakers and Spurs to make it to the NBA Finals from the Western Conference......ultimately falling short of the NBA title, but redeeming themselves 5 years later in 2011.

THE MAVS WHERE NEVER GETTING PAST THE SPURS WITHOUT A CENTER.

I dont really get your criticism of Cuban in this regard.

As average as Erick Dampier and Brendan Haywood where.....the Mavs best seasons have been with those players on the roster.

The Mavs got better after letting Nash Walk because they acquired Jason Terry (almost as good of a shooter and scorer as Nash),
Devin Harris (10x the perimeter defender that Nash Was and an even better slasher to the hoop)
Jerry Stackhouse (still capable of scoring in bunches)
and

Erick Dampier. In the days of the BIG 3 the Mavs never had a center that was capable of defending the paint, or being able to guard the Tim Duncans and Shaq's of the world.
Dampier finally gave the Mavs perimeter defenders some sort of protection of the rim. As frustrating as he could be.....the Mavs were never beating the Spurs without a center.
If beating the Spurs meant having to lose Nash and gain Dampier......then it was ultimately the right move.

Those players were all more athletic and better defenders then Steve Nash.....that enabled the Mavs to let an awesome player leave and rejuvenate another team....and still keep winning

Congrats on winning a lot of games and still not winning a title. Dampier never got the Mavs to their ultimate goal. With the right coaching, Nash turned into a back to back MVP. Dampier got worse and worse every year. He was basically a 6 point 7 rebound player that was average defensively. Nash solidified himself as a top-10 PG all time. Has he been used to his strengths as a Mav, the Mavs would have had two legitimate super stars at once. Who knows what the ceiling of that team would have been.

The real defender in the paint for the Mavs was Diop. He was a much better defender against Shaq and Duncan.

The only valid point in there is that Nash is a terrible defender. Terry isn't on the same planet as Nash when it comes to shooting. Harris could drive for one year there, but he was in no way the same threat to score that Nash was. Duncan raped Dampier in the 2006 playoffs to the tune of 32.3 points on 56% shooting plus 11.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.6 blocks, and 1 steal per game. That includes a 41/15/6/3 game seven. The Mavs won in spite of Dampier, not because of him.
