Kauffman Stadium, late summer of 2003, I think...the Royals were in the midst of summer time meltdown but we had a pulled off a wild win over the Yankees the night before and we were feeling pretty good.
After a few beers or two, my buddy and I were feeling extra good and had been letting the Yankees bullpen- back before they changed sides after the renovations- know it, getting a few laughs and more smirks along the way.
Moose pitched a gem but Torre goes to Rivera anyways to close out the 9th. They didn't have anyone else back there worth a cent.

Having warmed up, Rivera hangs around the bullpen for a minute as the Yankees offense puts the a cherry on top of the win. Rivera goes back to throw a couple extra pitches and tosses the ball our direction. I get my sweaty hands on it, and realize Rivera had signed it.
Growing up during the 50s and 60s and entering the adult world in the 70s, the hate was strong. But since then, Mariano Rivera has been one my favorite non-Royal/Athletics. Sad to see him go out, and for once, I'd be OK if the Yanks go on a playoff run.
p.s. We got a hit or two off of him, and kicked their arses in the rubber match.
