Let's see, "PEDs and Little League parks," and "I hate Boston," but it's the Sox fans that show a lack of class? If you're going to be a sore loser then you can't complain about a sore winner.

My favorite from him was the thumbs down "Drunk Irish Catholics." Now that is class!!!

At least he edited it to "clam chowder is nasty".

But it is clearly trolling.

The above is a link to Park Factor, which compares stats on the road vs stats at home. Notice the HR tab. OPACY has finished with a higher HR number than Fenway in Park Factor 11 out of the past 13 seasons (including this season which is almost finished). And it is often not close.

I would like to point out that all of the Irish Catholics I know are indeed drunks.

That's why I like them.

The non-Irish Catholics? Man... I get calls from Rome all the time about them. The phone rings and his secretary says, "please hold for the Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the Vatican City State, Servant of the servants of God."

(Usually, though, His Holiness interrupts that spiel and we get down to brass tacks)

For the most part, it's regular conversation about life, the universe and everything. He thinks the Albicelestes will make a run at the World Cup next year, and is putting in a good word for Messi with the man upstairs. Sepp Blatter, that is. But between you, me, and the Holy Father, he thinks Blatter is a blight upon the football world.

But as he likes to tell me, we all have our crosses to bear... Oh, Jorge, I see what you did there.

But I digress. Those boring, humdrum Catholics just rub him the wrong way sometimes. It's always, "AK, tell your friends that they can stop having kids; they don't have to prove their faith anymore. Just keep showing up to Mass and do God's work."

"Max," I say (it's short for Pontifex Maximus, kind of an inside joke), "they're just doing the best they can. I try to get them out on Friday and Saturday nights to let loose a bit, but it's all early bedtimes and flannel pajamas. But you know I live in Florida, and those warm PJs don't last long. Next thing you know, they're in bed at 9pm the way God put them on this Earth. And they're sober, so what do you think will happen?"

"If they were proper Irish Catholics, they might be naked in bed at 9pm, but it's because they're smashed. And at that point, none of the necessary equipment is pointed in the right direction and won't work anyway."

I think Il Papa likes my bawdy sense of humor. It's a refreshing distraction from those stuffed collars in the College of Cardinals. He told me once that the little old ladies in the Red Hat Society would probably get more accomplished than the old women wearing the red hats in the Vatican.

Anyhow. I know you're wondering about a couple of questions, so here's the quick FAQ:
1, he knows he's supposed to root for Notre Dame, Boston College and some of the other "Catholic" American football teams, but he doesn't really get the sport. But when I asked him about Manti Teo, he couldn't stop giggling.
2, not a fan of the Red Sox or the Yankees. He appreciates the suffering the fan bases have gone through in the past, but the exorbitant salaries are too reminiscent of how indulgences were abused in the Middle Ages. Buying your way to Heaven, or to the World Series, is just distasteful.
3, really likes the Rays. Seriously, they play in St Petersburg. Plus, he'd like to share a bottle of wine with Joe Maddon.

Time to make the move! Sox down 3 - 2 in the bottom of the 7th. Tillman is going to be gone soon.

Reminds me of the 07 Sox. If they were close in the late innings, they had a really good chance of winning the game!

Ok, if the Sox aren't going to get on base, at least make the pitcher work for his outs! Make him throw a lot.

But, Tillman has done a really good job tonight too.

Nothing? I crafted a fine piece of creative writing, and I get no feedback. Not even a "STFU, AK."

That's baloney.

And for what it's worth, I'm a Roman Catholic. And have been since before I was born. And the one thing they say about Catholics is: They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on.
You're a Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because...

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

Sox are doing what they need to do in order to secure the AL East!

The other AL East teams are doing what they need to do in order for the Sox to secure the AL East!

Sox lose to the Tigers 3 - 0. Guess who took the loss... Lackey, of course. The Sox have been shutout 11 times this season. 6 of them when Lackey is on the hill.

Many will call this bad luck. But I can't help but wondering if this is, somehow, intentional or punitive in nature. Like an O Lineman not blocking 100% for a cocky rookie RB.
