That series absolutely sucked as an Astros fan. Going 0-4 at home will never go away and will be a trivia question from here on out. Best home record in the regular season and we can't get a single home win in the World Series? Damn it hurts. Really bad. Only thing worse than this is to be a Ranger fan. Well, maybe Ebola and being a Rangers fan.
The 7th inning of game 2 will always be remembered fondly for people who don't like the Astros. It was a massive trainwreck and it sucked the life out of the entire building.

I'm starting to wonder how much Verlander has left. The dude is in his late 30's, has a ring, a super hot wife, and all the money he could ever want. His days of being a top notch ace who could carry a team should be coming to an end soon.

Greinkes stuff will probably age better than verlander's.

That "clown" franchise helped him realize his potential as a pitcher which will make him a very very wealthy man.

let's be clear. The only reason he is not coming back is because we can not pay him 30 MM per year with the current core we have at the moment that will need extensions starting after 2020.

Don't act like he wasn't an ace already in Pittsburgh.

he was the ace on that staff... but his ERA in his last two seasons at Pittsburgh were 3.88 in 2017 and 4.26 in 2018

Don't act like his stint at Houston wasn't a massive improvement and helped him potentially the highest paid pitcher in history.

Not sure how my post gave the impression I thought otherwise. If Cole remained in Pittsburgh as their ace do you believe he would be getting anywhere close to the type of contract he is likely going to sign this off season?

He'd still get 18-20 mill per year, but I think he's about to get a lot more now.

Where the heck is Farmer? This is "Daddy's" favorite thread on texags. If he's going to make fun of teams for being 30 games back in the standings, he should at least show his face here after the Astros lost.

Which is about 15 to 17 million dollars a year less than what is being bandied about as what it will take to sign him. In all likelihood the overall size of the contract will at least be double and if not larger than what it would have been if he was putting up the numbers he was with Pittsburgh. Cole went from a very good pitcher with a high ceiling with the Pirates to one realizing that potential with the Astros.

I'd be okay if I never read the word "daddy" on sports thread ever again. He needs a new schtick

There seems to be a lot of activity on this thread. I'm not going to read through all these desperate attempts for attention. But I'll ask a question.

How pathetic do you have to be to get more joy out of your daddy falling a couple of outs short of ANOTHER world championship than any accomplishment of your own team in the last several years?

For me, it's more of a "they hate us" so I hate them back situation.

It's very disappointing to me that Texan fans hate the cowboys so much. We only play one regular season game every 4 years, no playoff history, and play in opposite conferences. There's no reason for Texan fans to hate us, but they do. A few years ago, there was actually Texan fans who wanted to lose a game to the redskins because it might help keep us out of the playoffs. By comparison, I never think about the Texans or watch them at all.

As for the Astros, I like a lot of players on that team. Correa and Verlander are awesome. Bregman is a huge jerk tho. Really don't like him and how he calls us the Arlington rangers. Reid Ryan is a massive jerk too, he only has that job because of who his "daddy" is. He went out of his way to make us look bad after hurricane harvey. It was totally unnecessary.

I think you're overplaying the whole Texans/Cowboys thing. I'm a Texans fan and so are many of my friends/family. Literally none of us ever say anything about the Cowboys because we never play them. Believe it or not we actually watch them sometimes.

The only people who get fired up about the Cowboys are the Texan fans who have no education (we all know the type im talking about).

.....In terms of baseball, I can understand the Bregman hate because he is cocky. Kinda like how everyone hates Odor. The only difference being is that Bregman is good and Odor is terrible.

Odor is terrible. It kills me that the rangers front office can't realize that and at least try to move him or buy him out.

How's the offseason going? Money to blow with big names like Cole, Stras, Redon, Wheeler On the market means you singed at least 1, maybe 2 right? Y'all ready to open the new ballpark with 90 losses?

You just finished 6 games under .500 and 23 games out of first. You traded away your ace midseason who is now a FA. You have no major plans to spend decent new money this year with a payroll approaching 110 M. Your young core is not all that good. Your best player will be 39 and either busted for roids and start to decline like all aging players do. You have one of the worst rotations in baseball. You have no bullpen. Your farm system is bottom 10 in the league even though you were sellers at the deadline. This is all done by the architect that is Jon Daniels. Things will not be significantly better next year or the one after that or the several after that. You're stuck in 83 wins or fewer zone unless you spend like NY & LA or rebuild.

You just finished 6 games under .500 and 29 games out of first. You decided not to trade away any of the veteran assets even though you didn't stand a chance in the division. You have no major plans to spend decent new money this year with a payroll approaching 130 M. Your young core is not all that good. Your best player could only stay on the field for 70 games and either hits a home run or strikes out. Your rotation is one of the worst in baseball after Minor and Lynn (they only have 1 year left each). You have no bullpen. Your farm system is middle of the pack even though you you've been sellers in 17 and 18 (but not 19 for some reason). This is all done by the architect that is Jon Daniels. Things will not be significantly better next year or the one after that or the several after that. You're stuck in 83 wins or fewer zone unless you spend more than NY & LA or rebuild.

Do you work in the Rangers front office and have knowledge of what the payroll will be in 2020? Because I do, and I know it will be north of $175M.

I actually like the young kids behind Minor and Lynn. And I think we are going to grab a premium TOTR pitcher in the offseason. We have decent bullpen arms, too.

The Rangers will make the playoffs in the next two years.

Nobody spends more than NY & LA
AP, can I get an update on the payroll?

No Cole
No Stras
No Wheeler
No Hamels
No Rendon
No Grandal
No Moustakas
Doesn't sound like Donaldson is in play.

Who's left to add?

Puig, Ozuna, Keuchel, Madbum, Ryu

You could sign all 5 of them and you wouldn't win the division over Daddy.

I am actually looking forward to making a trip to Dallas this summer to watch the Rangers lose. Hated baking in the sun so we never went. As an Astros fan I am actually excited to check out a brand new stadium.

Enjoy it Ranger fans.

For the decade:

Astros: 789-831 (.487)
- 90+ wins (3)
- 90+ losses (3)
- 4 playoff appearances
- 2 pennants
- 1 WS

Rangers: 843-778 (.520)
- 90+ wins (5)
- 90+ losses (2)
- 5 playoff appearances
- 2 pennants

Rangers were clearly the more consistent team of the decade, but the Astros did get a title*

Rangers won the battle for consistency against a team that intentionally tried not to be consistent from 2010-2019. I guess you gotta take your victories where you can get them.

Astros will still be better this year than the Rangers and likely WS favorites again. Yeah today sucks but not the end of the world
