This series reminds me of the Golden State series last year; great comeback win in Game 1 only to lay an egg in Game 2. Hopefully this series goes the way that one did.

I still think the Spurs will take this in 5, but as another poster said, this was definitely an eye opener. We can't sleep walk our way to the WCSF.

Mavs have been significantly better the entire series. Don't know how you can think that, but to each his own.

Because the Spurs have played amazingly the second half of the season and the first two games of the series look nothing like the team that has been on the court for the regular season.

Not saying the previous poster is right, but it's not ridiculous to think that way. I'm personally thinking Spurs in 6, but wouldn't be shocked if it's 5.

Meanwhile, Dirk still hasn't put together even an average offensive showing. I liked his scrappiness and hustle on D tonight, but he hasn't even come close to a Dirk-like performance.

Like I said. The spurs may win the series, but even SA fans have to now admit that this could go 6 or 7.

3/17 from 3 in game one was a fluke. Understood. 10/20 in game two. Another sub-par game by Dirk. And Dallas still dominates.

Mavs D holding SA well under its scoring average.

Devin Harris thinks it's 2006, and Pop either can't or won't find an answer. Face it. The Mavs have "won" 6.5/8 quarters. Be nervous SA. Be nervous.

You won't see the Spurs have 20+ turnovers a game either.

What happened in Game 1 is irrelevant. Tonight proves that...just like tonight will be irrelevant come Saturday. Dallas played great tonight, no doubt, but it is just one game.

Yes, but Marion had a great game. He is not going to consistently produce like that...Dirk's 'average' game is just a much a product of those playing well around as it is him playing 'average'. Calderon had a nice 3rd quarter as well...

Lastly...

When an NBA team loses 10 straight times to the same team, odds will eventually be in their favor. Just sayin'...ask Golden State.

It is going to be a fun series...I like this coaching match up more than anything...

I can freely admit that I thought this was a 4 game series, five max. Dallas played tough both games, and caused as much headache to the Spurs as the Spurs caused themselves. Carlisle is a top tier coach.

I now think this is a 6 game series. I seriously doubt it ends in five, but I also seriously doubt it goes 7.

Mavs fans should be proud. This was a little bit of a pieced together team after missing out on D12 and DWill in the offseason, and you are still giving a 62 win team all they can handle and more. No back handed compliment here.

I now think it goes six. Wasn't expecting this at all. Hope we can turn it around.

I think this will wake the Spurs up and we take game 3 in a blow out, but then again, I thought we'd make another comeback last night.

Big credit to the Mavs though.

Dallas is taking away the role players for the Spurs and the Spurs don't like it and aren't adjusting. They are trying so hard to move the ball and get the role players involved and thus aren't taking advantage of what Dallas is giving them.. an open rim. The Spurs are going to have to win this series in the paint and not on the three pt line.

Pop didn't do much or say much from game 1 to 2 but I expect him to do some things different and put his players in a better position to succeed going forward.

Like I said credit Dallas, but the this is on the Spurs as well. The Spurs credit themselves on being able to play multiple styles of basketball but they aren't taking advantage of what the defense is giving them; they are trying to force ball movement and threes when the whole Dallas game plan is focusing on stopping those things.

I hope this isn't a Memphis series all over again.
I don't think so. There is a TON of basketball left. And as I don't want it to go 6 or 7 games. I like the Spurs chance there if it goes that far.

The Spurs actaully had a higher shooting percentage, but gave the Mavs too many extra possessions with turnovers and offensive rebounds.

The Mavs had 28 more shots than the Spurs. That is a huge number of extra possessions.

I have been extremely disappointed in Leonard, Green, Splitter and to a lesser extent Belinelli. There is way too much playoff experience and talent to be complete non-factors. I really thought those guys would have a ton of confidence after last year and be chomping the bit to have a good playoffs performance. Instead they have disappeared. If just one of those guys step up then it is a whole different series. Game three will be huge for both teams.

Not sure how much the Spurs actually need to make adjustments for:

If the Spurs turn the ball over 22 times against any team in the West, they will lose. The Mavs only had 7, and had 5 more offensive rebounds.

Part of the offensive rebound problem is the fact that Monta Ellis is getting into the lane too easy. That is where I expect to see the adjustment.
I don't expect the turnovers to be an issue the rest of the series.

From the Mavs side, for them to win the series, they still need to shoot better, at least Monta and Dirk need to.

The way the Mavs are playing defense is causing the Spurs to make a lot of turnovers. It's not all unforced errors on the Spurs part.

Dallas is switching everything and sticking with the role players. The Spurs continue to try and force the ball to people who aren't as open as they are used to. Dallas has to give up something with the way they are guarding the three and that's the rim.

The Spurs aren't going to be able to just turn a switch and all the ball movement and open threes will come back. Dallas is making an effort to stick with the role players and not help. The Spurs are going to have to change there style up a bit and beat them in the paint. If somebody did this strategy last year Parker and TD would have eaten them alive down low. Now they are so concentrated on getting the role players open and getting threes that they aren't taking advantage of what is right in front of them.

I wasn't able to watch the second game, but after the first I thought they would run pick and roll with Duncan/Parker until the Mavs give up on their current defensive game plan. That would let the Spurs go back to their usual offense.

I wasn't able to watch the game either (screw nbatv) but what was Parker's and Duncan's deal? Tim was 4-5 on FGs, but why did he only get 5 shots? The spurs need him to dominate like he did in Game 1.

Was Parker just not being aggresive? He was 5-10 with just 3 turnovers so it doesn't appear he was terribly off either. As stated above just run pick and roll with Timmy and Tony until they stop it. I don't see why the Spurs got away from that.

I'm not concerned about where the Spurs are right now. If they lose game 3 in another poor showing, then it might be time to start getting real nervous, but they still only need a split in Dallas to win this series.

If they can come up with a game 3 win, they could very well still be on track to finish this series in 5 games.

Exactly. The Spurs are over thinking this thing or something. The whole game they were obsessed with moving the ball and getting the ball into the hands of Green, Splitter, Mills, Marco, etc. But Dallas' whole game plan is to stick with those guys. So all those wide open looks that were created off of penetration and ball movement in the regular season just aren't there anymore. But if you decide to regulate that then you are going to give up something else and the Spurs don't seem to want to exploit that. Pop is so obsessed with keeping the ball movement and role players involved or something.
Sher Thing

Pop has a history of not making adjustments until Game 3 of a series though. (See GS last year). So hopefully that's the case.

Adjustments are badly needed though. The Spurs can't keep trying to win this game on ball movement and threes when it just isn't there anymore. It's not there because its being taken away, not because the Spurs are playing different then they were in the regular season. For the last time, the rim is open.

and of course all were talking about is offense but defense needs to shore up also. Especially effort on the glass.

The Spurs actually shot better than the Mavs. (50% FG)

Biggest issue was obviously turnovers. Spurs took almost 30 less shots, it's not hard to see where the problems are. Pop will adjust. I think he refused to tinker during game 2 just to see if the tide would turn. He knows we won a game we should've lost and probably had a bit of a "playing with house money" mentality for this game.

Spurs need to get Duncan 20 shots. That's what they need to do.

Run the entire offense through Duncan on the post. Mavs can't guard him. When he lights them up and we double team, easy points. Pop if you're reading this don't do it.

Agree. Same thing happened last year against Golden State. It wasn't until game three did we see the Spurs start to adjust and give Golden State trouble.
