It didn't look like he meant to kick him. He just happened to be there.

I think he meant to do it, but it's not really a kick. It's a more of a "push" using his feet. He was trying to push Splitter off of him, and didn't think about the ramifications that it would be perceived as a kick to the head. It's not malicious, but it was still a no-no. A one game suspension is probably fair, although I was hoping he'd get by with time served.

Gotta get a win at home tonight, but it's gonna be tough if Tony doesn't play. Either way I think this thing is going 7.

At this point, with the way the Mavs have played and the way the Spurs have played through this series, coupled with Parker's injury, I'd be somewhat surprised to see the Spurs come out of this series on top.

Tony already had recent back problems and other nagging injuries, and throwing in a sprained ankle makes him overall pretty useless. If Green, Belinelli, and Mills don't light it up for one of these next two games, the Spurs very well could be on vacation by Friday night.

Mavs fans making excuses for Blair's kick is like a Spurs fan trying to claim Horry was just playing the ball against Nash.

The Spurs are the #1 seed because those guys have been big all year. Not saying they will be now, but the Spurs have a way of playing well regardless.

Generally speaking though, it's incredible how well and tough these two teams are playing right now. The D has been good and aggressive for both teams and yet both offenses are still scoring with skill and determination. Compared to some of the other playoff games I've watched (like the Wizards and Bulls, ugh) these two teams are playing as good as anybody right now. It's almost laughable that the Spurs & Mavs are playing each other right now when either team would have already swept anybody in the east not named Miami.

Splitter had so much weight on Blair's legs that Blair had no problem pulling his knees back and pushing Splitter in the face with his feet.

Yeah, dude.

It’s not really worth an argument. It was a dumb play and worth a one-game slap on the wrist per the rulebook. It is what it is.

I could definitely see us losing the series, but I wouldn't say I'd be surprised to win it. Gotta respect how the Mavs are playing, but it's still a series we're "supposed" to win. We saw flashes of the regular season Spurs during game 4. Clamping down on D, pretty ball movement and open shots in the paint.

If Spurs could play like that for more than one quarter, I don't see the Mavs keeping up.

We played like that for a combined quarter, and we were up 20, we just couldn't maintain it...

The only thing that is slightly encouraging to me as a Spurs fan is that we've played really poorly in at least one aspect each game of this series (game 3 was the best our offense looked, but the D was severely lacking down the stretch), and we've still managed to win 2 games. The Spurs used excellent defense to grind wins in games where we went completely stagnant on offense for long stretches. So, if our offense can stay consistent in getting into the paint, and that starts with Parker being healthy, hopefully we can put together an offensive performance like game 3 and keep up the defensive intensity.

Defense wins games in the playoffs, so San Antonio can't afford to let up on that end.

The concerning thing is playoff basketball and better defense is here and with it has gone the spurs role players. We are basically living and dying with the big three just as we did a decade ago. The only problem is our big three are now old and not as good as they used to be.

Dallas is not a defensive powerhouse, but has done a great job of limiting our role players. I am not convinced that if we play the griz, thunder or heat that our role players will all of a sudden come alive. I am still hopeful that we can make some adjustments, get our confidence back up and the threes will start falling again from our role players, but I think that is just pure silver and black optomism at this point.

I am very concerned about this teams ability to make a long run, after seeing the first four games. Leonard is the only player I keep coming back to that could possibly give us much more night in and night out, but he doesn't look like he is ready to take that next step thus far.

I think the big difference is much better coaching now by the Mavs. Luckily, this is probably the best coaching we will face in the playoffs.

Carlisle is definitely the best coach the Spurs will face.

What will be interesting if the Spurs get past the Mavs is to see if other teams follow Dallas' strategy of switching everything? Dallas is doing this because: 1) they're not a good defensive team and had to do something different, 2) what they lack in defensive talent they make up for in experienced vets with good basketball IQs.

Will a team that is just better defensively (like Memphis or OKC) scrap what they've been doing all season and experiment with something new? Would a younger team without the same caliber of coach on the sideline be able to stay disciplined enough to let the Spurs live in the paint and stick on the 3 point shooters (Houston, Portland)?

I think every team will follow suit. Why wouldn't they? They may try their normal defense at first, but as soon as the Spurs start bombing wide open threes like they did throughout the regular season then things will change. That is why Parker getting right is so critical. The way to beat this is to drive straight to the rim when you get a mismatch or hit the wide open jumper if they play off. A healthy/normal Parker would be averaging 30 points this series.

Parker and Manu are the only two drivers we have it seems. Manu is playing great but he is old and Parker appears hurt or off.

You are absolutely correct about that, and I wasn't really trying to provoke an argument. Just stating my "pathetic" opinion.

The Spurs cranked up the defense in game 4 and that is what will win the series.

Ugh. The system is not meant for him to just take over a game like this. He isn't a pick and roll player and our system only allows those who can run the pick and roll to dominate the ball. Everyone else scores on the pick n roll players creating something for them. There is multiple times where Kawhi is looking for the ball in the post and doesn't get it. The Spurs have to do a better job at giving him the ball. He might have had 3 legitimate chances at scoring the ball on the offensive end and more times then not he capitalizes. Even in the post they are double teaming him right as he catches it. If the team does nothing to free him up or get him looks then he just can't do much. I agree he should just say **** it more; forget the system and try to go to the rim himself but that isn't what this offense is about and Pop is not looking for that at all. It's also not that fair to him since he had zero practice of doing these types of things during the regular season.

It has nothing to do with him "not being ready to take the next step" absolutely nothing.

It's not near as easy as you make it sound but there is certainly some truth to that. Team like OKC and Houston have looked god awful defensively throughout the playoffs so far.
