Yes I think the problem is numbers choosing online. One of the plans in BISD as I understand it was to have a virtual school, with admin and teachers. But the number of online students didn't support a whole separate structure, so now we have synchronous instruction (I think at all levels, for sure MS and HS) with both e-learners and in person having one teacher. The advantage is transitioning in and out of in person keeps students in the same class.
For us the problem was the mandatory virtual for everyone for the first three weeks. Our virtual numbers are very high, pushing 65% staying virtual the first 9 weeks.
It's also going to be real fun since our district hasn't decided whether to extend mandatory virtual another 4 weeks. The parents that can't do this are already drowning. They want the schools open tomorrow. The in-person teachers want the schools open now. The 65% virtual parents are hollering at the top of their lungs because their kids have to have schedules redrawn and teachers reassigned once school starts. We have a school board meeting tonight and the social media arguing has been intense.
It all just needs to be open.
