I told my friend who was reading Feast that the slower pace was due to new characters being introduced. I enjoyed meeting the Martell and Greyjoys along with more details concerning other established folk....

AFFC is definitely better on a re-read (although the entire series is as well, IMO). there are still some parts where it drags (one character in particular comes to mind) but if you power through those, it pays off

The Greyjoys, lol. Everytime I came up to their chapter I stopped reading for the night, disappointed I couldnt get one more good chapter in. Then the next time I picked up the book the Greyjoy chapter were so good I got pissed I didnt read it the night before. I did that cycle like every night for a week.

I was just like "oh a Greyjoy chapter, a chapter of wicked -sses and an organized occult: PASS. Oh wait I should probably read it...tomorrow." Next day "OMG this is wonderful!"

I do wish GRRM would post a rough mashup list of AFFC/ADWD chapters, just so we know when things are occurring in relation to one another.

For those that dont know, book 4 and 5 occur at the same time but are split between Westeros(minus the Wall) and Essos & the Wall.

In GoTs we learned the latency of information between the two continents. The info coming to Varys is very quick but still weeks slow. Information from Westeros to Essos is much much slower. Robert dies in what episode S01E07? I expect Dany wont hear about the King's death until S02E04. Thats over a half season of goings on in Westeros before the Eastern continent even knows whats going on. Information flow is very important in this series but no one hardly pays attention to it.

I hate to play hall monitor and don't want to start another fight about what is considered a spoiler, but it does seem like there is an awful lot of discussion regarding the books in the TV only thread.

It doesn't affect me now, but I started out as a TV watcher only and it is really frustrating to see info regarding the books. Even if it seems innocuous something as simple as being aware that a character is still around in book 3 or 4 will affect the reading of book 2. Maybe someone can start a new thread for Season 2 for the book readers.

Geez come on guys! Quit talking about characters 2-3 books down the line. From what we've already deduced from season 1 and things people have said, this series is FULL of shockers (which is part of what makes it great!). But when you start running your freakin mouths about "how a character has changed between book 1 and book 4" you've screwed the non book reader since they now know that person is still around.

Why is that so hard to understand???

I'm so fearful of spoilers, that I actually went ahead and started reading the books. I'm not done with the series by any stretch, but I knew that I couldn't stay away from the TA thread in Season 2, and I didn't want anything to get spoiled for me.

It took be a few months to read book1-book5. It was well worth it. There are actually some details you need to from book1 (details not put in the TV series) to start to unravel some of the deeper questions about the Game.

I've only read three books and the "spoilers free" thread is already headed towards being unsafe... people, we're on page 2... keep it in...

Everytime I see a trailer for this I get more pumped! Dang the next 3-4 weeks is going to be fun. March Madness, Game of Thrones, The Masters.

TTT for season premier a week from yesterday!!! Watched the little 30 minute promo last night that reviewed last season and hinted at things this season. Still pumped. Also watched most of last season over the past two weeks and got excited all over again. It's one of the few series so far that I've had the patience to rewatch at some point. Most of the time I'm one and done and either like it or don't. Heck...Sopranos is my all time favorite show, and I don't think I've seen the whole thing through more than once.

I'm one episode into Season 1 now. Interesting stuff, though it's a bit brutal.

I also may or may not have a friend who's working on the visual effects for Season 2. Not that I know anything because I'd have to be killed were that the case <IMG SRC="/images/forum/smile.gif">

I really liked it until Episode 6. Then I was hopelessly hooked and have since become almost obsessed.

Is there going to be more Roxanne McKee in season 2? She has escalated to my top 5...rather quickly. Surely Daenerys still needs a few tips...

There is a S2 spoiler thread somewhere...I suggested we just keep it into the S1 spoiler thread and make it as long as ADWD. There is already so much content and citations in that thread that there is a chance we just rehash those arguments on a new thread.
