I trust the Xaro's vault was unchanged from the book to the show? Or was there any more significance given to it in the book that was not in the show?

Unnecessary book discussion below....

Xaro's vault does not exist in the book as shown in the show, and he is a very different type of character.

Thanks, that's really all I was curious about as I am starting the first book. Since it ended up being empty I thought maybe that was all it was in the book, but they did make it seem more significant the one episode it was mentioned before, which is why I ask.

If you want to know about the book please use google instead of this thread.

There will be another 4-5 seasons before HBO's version of GOT catches up to the end of ADWD. I would suggest that those of you who are being militantly obstinate about remaining ignorant of the books are going to find it increasingly difficult, if not impossible, to continue being "unspoiled." Is it really worth the hassle and stress? I assure you that those of us who have read all the books are enjoying the series just as much as you are. Just a thought.

unicyclist,

I'm happy for you that you liked the Drogo scene. I will admit it was well acted and Jason Momoa was an incredible Drogo last season (of course the thing I loved about Drogo was he was a total badass fighter not that he was secretly a romantic). I don't really buy that Dany needed closure on Drogo though as she seemed well past it. It just felt very much designed to satisfy the female viewers and maybe to make up for their disappointment in seeing Jaquen H'gar go from super handsome to not, it didn't however do much to advance the story. I thought it was incredibly cheesy, esp considering they spent so much of her time in the HotU on it as an added scene while ignoring so much else.

No need for the "moronic" comment, esp considering you have a completely made up theory that somehow a magic power would have kept Dany there had she kissed Drogo or held Rhaego (she touches both btw in the scene). It's just such a simplistic and canned idea as well to have her "choose". The cool thing about the HotU is the knowledge she gains there and of course the reader gets in terms of connecting the past, present, and future in an intricate riddle that truly shows the genius of Martin's writing. To pull out the "stay trapped in the fantasy world" schtick that is so common is scifi was a major letdown.

The thing that I love so much about the story is how it is so unpredictable, well thought out, and no character is safe. The story is so good because you can watch it casually and enjoy it but the depth of it and the connection of every little detail to have meaning (when you likely would have missed it) is what makes it so special. The HotU was my favorite chapter in Book 2 because of that and to make it about as original as "Eve don't bite the apple!" is a travesty.

Wow I just now realized HotU meant House of the Undying. For some reason I was reading it as Hot U.

Sorry, rough day at work.

I didn't ask for spoilers... just if there was a similar difference in Xaro's vault as there was with the HotU.

Never asked for specifics or details, and none were given.

I find it very unusual that you focus so much on the male characters from a female perspective.

It is because I watch the show with my wife who is a non reader. It's also because I know a few other female non readers who were very caught up in the "moon of my life" and "sun and stars" stuff from last year and loved seeing Drogo though it had little to do with his acting ability. Mainly though it is about trying to figure out a reason for why they took the coolest chapter in the book and tried to make a tragic romance story out of it that wasn't in the book.

Just throwing something out there now, since season 2 is over, isn't anything from Book 1 and Book 2 now NOT considered a spoiler?

I mean, in the sense that I understand, a spoiler is basically telling something that will happen in the future of a show/movie/book and "spoiling" the surprise for someone else trying to experience it.

If something happened in Book 2 (Say something silly like Renly eating a peach) that didn't happen in the show and likely will NEVER happen in the show, is it a spoiler to say that it happened in the book??

I guess the fact that so many series nowadays (TWD, GoT) have source material (books/comics) but the shows deviate from the source material, makes it very difficult to understand what is spoiler and what isn't. And what will ruin something for someone, but not for someone else.

Again, another example, someone who has watched the 1st 2 seasons of GoT but has no plans to read the books might not care about added details from the books that can help better explain what they saw on the show. However, a different person who has watched the 1st 2 seasons and DOES want to read the books will inevitably complain that ANY information from the book is a spoiler.

It makes threads about series like this very difficult to traverse !

If you want to know what happens read the books....

Otherwise wait till next season and be patient....

But as we've already seen, with the liberties taken by the writers things don't necessarily pop up "in order".

So while you think something that has already passed isn't going to be in the TV series, it may pop up at a different time out of order.

If you want to talk about that stuff, there's the other thread.

Bingo. I just finished Game of Thrones, and am starting ACOK. I don't want things in the book (that weren't in the show) spoiled. I don't want people to explain what the differences are. I want to find out for myself.

The title clearly says no spoilers, for those who haven't read the book.

If you want to discuss things from the book, use a different thread.

It's not hard to differentiate between what I read in the book and what I saw in the show. I talk about one thing here, I pretend the other doesn't exist. You guys should have enough common courtesy to do the same.

But going to the other thread to ask a question like that puts you at risk of reading spoilers because people posting there won't always necessarily be answering your question.

And you can't expect people to just cease fire with spoilers while a non-reader is on the thread asking a specific question.

That's kind of why I was asking about the vault, because I assume Dany will not be spending much time (if any) in Quarth next season and it would be safe to tell me if there were changes made. But in reality if you've read the book and know Quarth has nothing to do with book 3 that would seem a safe "spoiler" to me for the show.

There may be differing opinions on that, but that's how I feel.

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Havent Read ANY OF THE BOOKS NO SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Havent Read Book 3, but Book 1&2 are ok NO SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Havent Read ANY OF THE BOOKS But don't mind knowing about Books 1 & 2 and filler as needed for Book 3 NO SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Have Read ALL OF THE BOOKS SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Have Read Just the 1st Book NO SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Have Read thru Book 3 SPOILERS)**

***Game Of Thrones - Ssn 3 (4 Those That Have Read thru Book 4 SPOILERS)**

Man, half the fun of shows like this is speculating on what's going to happen next. If you have read the books, then you can't speculate, nor can you participate in conversations that are speculation because you quite literally know what is the right and wrong interpretation of a scene. So even if someone says something that is off the wall, you can't correct them, nor can you laud someone that is correct. Hell, even the fact that you can be identified as a book reader means that if you were to chime in on an idea from a non-reader, your point automatically carries sway.

I've read the books, and I've sworn to myself that I'm not going to talk about plot here. Those comments are best saved for the the other thread. For me, I like reading what the non-readers think, and I like commenting about how smoking hot Dany is (answer: very hot).

There just isn't any reason to mention the books on this thread. This is especially true considering that there is another thread wherein you can discuss the books. If HBO didn't explain it or didn't make it clear, the watchers should work it out themselves or go to HBO go for answers. There is no need to shepherd anyone towards the right conclusions.

The hard part is being a person who hasn't read all the books because the other thread has become a discussion about all the books and not just the current season. For that reason, I hustled buns and finished book 5 so I could join the conversation in the other thread.

Oooooooor people could just use common sense and not post spoilers in the no spoilers thread.

the whole xaro thing I skipped past and dont really care about, im more referring to the guy on the last page who clearly said he was posting spoilers. I dont want to click back because I dont want to read it on accident.

Super,

Might as well add:

Spoiler thread for those that have read the Winds of Winter Sample chapters

Spoiler thread for those that have read the Dunk and Egg stories.

yes, but many have active moderation communities that actively enforce the spoiler policy. We don't have that luxury, unfortunately.

the Game of Thrones reddit, for instance, has a very effective spoiler policy (and great mods). i've had 2 spoilers revealed to me on texags, none on there.

Its also incredibly easy to get moderation on these boards too.

Mention any Houston strip club and posts are likely to be automatically flagged.

The vote function is there for a reason.
SuperAg05

The other thing that Reddit has is the ability to use spoiler tags. So if someone wants to say something that might be considered a spoiler, their text can be hidden unless the viewer wants to read it. Texags has no such feature.

How bout simplify it to just "don't tell us stuff"?

I'm really sorry that some people seem to be horribly offended by not being able to reveal things on here for those of us that haven't read the books, but there's another thread where you can discuss everything to your heart's content.

That's the rub, if you haven't completed all 5 books, there isn't another place for you. If you go to the other thread, you will see almost all discussions about the totality of events in the 5 books. If you have only read book 1 or thru 3 or whatever, there is no place for you to post. No place to discuss the difference between what you read and what the show is telling the audience. No place to figure out if the show's direction might give hints as to the books future direction. Those people are SOL.
