They havent explored Stannis' immediate family. They had plenty to introduce in this one episode, they gave each arena about 8 mins of screen time (save Arya who got less than 1m). I expect they will start to choose 5 character's plots per episode instead of all "10" just so you can see more arc per episode than all characters taking one step forward per week.

Who is Greywind? And Peter Dinklage MIGHT be my favorite actor on TV right now. Or he's playing my favorite character on TV right now. Hard to discern at times for me.

Either way....awesome start to the season.

Grey Wind is Robb's direwolf.

Is Robb's wolf full grown in the scene with Jaime? Because that is a huge dog!

I'm not sure yet, its still pretty young for a dog (1 or 2 years maybe?) and direwolves are supposed to be wolves on steroids so.

I did read that they did something new with the wolves this season. They filmed them and then they digitally inserted them into the scenes. It allows them to beef up the wolves while leaving them looking natural. I do expect them to get bigger.

Yeah I've never heard a name on his. I remember Snow's is Ghost. But don't remember any of the others. Was Sansa's named Lady?
BillOnCapitolHill

i think they actually said all the names in season 1 except bran's (summer) and robb's (grey wind)
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"Nymeria, gloves!"
"Lady didnt hurt anyone, she's good!"
"(in crypts) Sh****dog doesnt like chains"
"Ghost, to me..."

I cant recall Summer or GreyWind being named in S01.

The Direwolves are supposed to be the size of a small pony (I think he looked that size, but I don't know ponies). Useless fact of the night is that real direwolves were 5 feet long and weighed around 150lbs fully grown.

Grey Wind was awesomeness. So far I am excited about all the new Dragonstone characters. Stannis, Melisandre, and Davos are all how I envisioned them. Tyrion was incredible as always. It's going to be a LONG week.

The woman in red...what's the deal with her? She wasn't affected by the drink she was given, while it killed the other guy.
BillOnCapitolHill
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Family has a 6-foot long Great Dane he is lean and stringy and weighs 140lb. The wolf Robb had looked twice if not 3 times the weight in the trunk.

It's supposed to demonstrate her Lord of Light god has a bit more power than the old man who worshipped the 7 thought which is why the poison didn't affect her. That's why she said her line about how fire burns away all fear and darkness or whatever as he died on the floor. Can't remember exactly, but it was one of the best lines of the episode.

i think the line was

Why would it be a spoiler? It happened in the episode.
Elliot P. Campbell

stive, all of that happened in episode 1. might take a re-watching or two to get it all in if you haven't read the books though

Yes, things become apparent when you read the books, more so because you're watching for them.

Really it's just important to know that when she chugged the posioned wine, the gem glowed red.

Was it just me, or did anyone else like how Sansa is learning to manipulate Joffrey??

I thought that was a real key point of the first episode - should have big impact later.

-And I can hardly wait to see how Littlefinger gets back at the Queen after she made an enemy of him...

bigjohn1, i agree with you about sansa. sophie turner is nailing her character there.

"it was well struck, your grace."

"it's bad luck to kill someone on your nameday."

"my brother and mother are traitors. i am sworn to my beloved joffrey."

Onve of my favorite scenes was the exchange between Cersei and Tyrion and how he made her squirm for how she and Joffery have handled the Starks.

I think the casting folks have done an execellent job (few small exceptions). I can't remeber liking and hating characters in a series this much.

There are going to be a lot of things in the Show that are very important but seem to slip by if you haven't read the books, the detail is there but so hard to put into film where everyone catches it. I think we are doing a good job of keeping this "Spoiler Free" so far but explaining things that HAVE happened to make them understandable.

For example, my wife hasn't read the books but is really getting into the show. One thing that threw her off until I paused it and explained was "Why is Robb sending that Gendry guy to Kings Landing?" It threw me for a minute and then I realized that the actor they chose to play the Lannister that Robb sends with his terms looked a lot like Gendry (Robert's ******* who is a smith and is with Arya). It kills me sometimes but I don't spoil anything with her. The HBO site has a lot of great spoiler free info and is better than going to places like Westeros.org because it is hard not to get spoilers there as you can see things on the front page at times.

The toughest thing they are running into right now is the story is still growing and will continue to grow in scope but they have limits to screen time. Right now you are looking at quite a few storylines and several more are about to be added. It will be helpful later on though to understand the importance of Stannis and Melisandre and what is happening at Dragonstone. For instance they couldn't tell you in the show that Maester Cressen was the family Maester for the Baratheon's when Stannis and Robert were born and he always loved Stannis like a son because he saw how he seemed to be the forgotten child. That was why he felt so strongly about Melisandre he was willing to kill himself in order to try to kill her.

You can already see though how complex this will soon be as we know that Catelyn and Theon are about to leave Robb so that means 2 new storylines to tell for instance. There are 7 Kingdoms and then North of the Wall and everything happening across the Narrow Sea. At this point we know nothing of Dorne, the Iron Islands, The Reach, The Citadel, or the Westerlands though they have been mentioned. That is part of why the show will eventually become its own story to an extent separate from the books, in truth most of the scenes in the Episode last night were modified or not at all in the books but were necessary to still tell the story. It actually makes it exciting because scenes like Robb and Jaime with Grey Wind are fabulous but not in the books.

Cosmic, sometimes the "why" in a story line is revealed later on in a big or impactful way. I wasn't calling you out on revealing a spoiler, I was just asking a question since I haven't read the books. If it was something that we should have picked up on, or if you know it won't be revealed later, then thanks for the explanation. If you don't think it's a big deal that the non-readers know this info now, but it's revealed in the future, then....it's a bit of a fine line on whether we should know that info now, or wait patiently (as a book reader would his first time through the book) and have it shown to us later.

Again, wasn't trying to be a jerk by asking that question...we just had issues last year with people running their mouth about stuff that they didn't seem to think were big deals, but in truth, they were revealing how long someone lives....or if some "makes it through the season", etc.

Thanks for clarifying the little things I missed though!! Definitely helpful.

I wouldn't have said anything if it had an impact later. The toast the Maester made was to the one 'true' god. So that scene was just to show you that her god had a bit more power than he thought. He was just trying to sacrifice himself so he could kill Melisandre to keep her from harming Stannis with her advisement. I didn't even pick up on the shining pendant when she drank. I'll probably rewatch the episode again at some point this week. Sure there are plenty of othe tiny details that slipped by me.

If I even think clarifying something in a current episode will ruin later ones, I'll keep my mouth shut though.
