Since white walkers were seen the very first scene of the show, I thought it was commonly known there would be elements of the supernatural. Like others have said, they mention that there were dragon skulls in the castle, and Ned's daughter hides inside of one. The Khalesi was carrying around dragon eggs since the beginning. Nothing concerning dragons surprised me. Now if people had come on here after reading the book and told you about someone getting killed, that would be more of a spoiler.

Haven't read the book. One question I have that might not have a non-spoilery answer: How do wildlings and dire wolves get across The Wall? My impression is nothing is supposed to escape from the north into the Seven Kingdoms. But everyone seems pretty nonchalant about people and animals penetrating the wall. So is The Wall just for show? This doesn't bode with zombie hordes probably moving south.

before anyone else jumps on that, I'd say that it should remain a mystery for now... but I'm certain there are others who will disagree...

In very general non-spoilery terms, it's safe to remind everyone that the Night's Watch is not as strong as it used to be. That includes the castles along the Wall. Some are in disrepair and deserted.

lech, the wall is a large structure, think of it like a wall between Mexico and the US, except there are only three INS stations. One at Tijuana, one at Brownsville and one at ElPaso, which is the largest.

The Nights Watch only has a few thousand men, to patrol miles and miles, plus they have expeditionary forces that arent on the Wall. One could climb it if they had the inclination. There is also a mountainous region the Wall up to. Presumably animals such as direwolves could travel the mountains.

Yeah, I think that's not a spoiler. We know that the Watch consists of the dregs of society. And we know that most people in the south seem to think that all the major threats from north of The Wall died out hundreds or thousands of years ago.

So it could be that some things getting through aren't a big enough threat for anyone to pay much attention. As long as the Wildlings don't take er jobs, then it's all good.

I was just thinking that The Wall was so awesome that it could keep people from crossing without any help from the Watch.

Just think of the protection as pourous, do they really care if a few wildlings get across? No. They are less than peasants and have committed no crimes...yet. The purpose of the wall isnt to keep it the northern waste airtight, it is to keep an army from marching south. Notably an undead army.

But I think even the Night's Watch would notice if a couple thousand wildlings were trying to climb the Wall.

one thing to note about the Wall is that there are over a dozen fortresses similar to Castle Black (where the Lord Commander lives) all along the length of the Wall. as of the time of the story, only three are actually manned - Castle Black, Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, and the Shadow Tower.

in olden times, when the night's watch was in its prime, all the castle were bustling with activity and well-stationed, but that's no longer the case. so, it's theoretically pretty easy to cross at anywhere that's not one of those three areas, if you can find holes, trees, mountainous areas, etc.

and no, none of that is a spoiler. it's just never really explained that well

I really dont expect them to explain the Wall in detail, at least not for another 4-5 years. They would need to devote about 20 mins of screen-time of people discussing it to explain it in detail; thats just the difference between a (screen)play and prose.

If you figure that they only have 600 mins per season, 20 mins discussing the ins-&-outs of the Wall before it ever comes into play. And thats not a spoiler, you already know summer is over and white-walkers exist.

Gilly being corned by Ghost was a cool scene and Sam showing uncommon bravery was fun to see.

i'm not sure if they've really explained who Davos is yet in the show, so at the risk of more spoilers, i'll hold off on clarifying the "onion knight" comment. they might go into that later. one thing they have made clear is that Davos owes Stannis a lot about where he is now

Loved the exchange between Tyrion and Varys! Loved Tyrion replacing Janos with Bron.

Quick question....was the beheaded Dothraki rider Khal Drogo's brother? Dany called him "blood of my blood". I didn't remember him in any significant way from season one so I get the impression he wasn't THAT big of a player. Just curious mainly.

stive - "Blood of my Blood" is a term for the Bloodriders of the khals. these are men who are not related the Khals, but are basically their sworn bodyguards, and the custom is that if their khal dies, they must take their own life as well. rakharo (the one who came back just a head) was Dany's bloodrider, not Drogo's, so that's why he (and the other two she had) stayed with her when the rest of Drogo's khalasar deserted her

and in the spotting random actors/actresses of the week, the pregnant girl was the weird(moreso than the others) chick on Skins. The 2nd Skins actor on the show, at least that i've noticed.

Loved it when Janos got what was coming to him for being a turncoat...and Bron commenting "No, I'd ask how much?"

And Peter Dinklage's portrayal of the Imp is becoming one of my favorite TV characters of all time!

Not having read the books, I might be reading too much into this....but I'm guessing Tyrion filed that one away under "Keep an eye on this guy or make sure you're the Lannister who is willing to pay him the most". Bron just revealed his true motivator.

Haven't read the books, so legit, non-spoiler question:

Did Jon Snow see the old dude paying off the wildings / white walkers / something else with the baby, presumably a boy? Is that how he and his daughters can safely live north of the wall?

He saw him walk out there with the baby....then walk back empty handed (Snow is hiding behind the tree). Then he hears the baby crying and runs toward it...crouching behind another tree and he sees the creature (whitewalker) pick up the baby and start off with it. That's when he gets hit in the head by the guy with all the wives.

So...we know the old man is giving all the boys to the whitewalkers...I presume that allows him to stay where he is with all of his wives while all of the other wildlings either flee south of the wall or join up with the "other king" north of the wall. Wonder if the whitewalkers are eating the boys...raising them/turning them into white walkers....?
