What's the same level studies on alcohol and tobacco vs non users? And trans fats? And processed foods? I'll hang up and take my answer off the air.

You don't even need to go that far. The article says they did not track the method of consumption but assume the vast majority smoked it. Well duh, smoking anything causes the human body major issues.

That study didn't even capture how people consumed cannabis. Probably by smoking, which no ****, smoking can cause all sorts of issues whether it's weed, tobacco, or random pole. It's a garbage study.

It's leftists fault for continuing to vote for such degenerate **** bags and refusing to hold the Democrat party responsible for their malfeasence, corruption, incompetence, and mass spread of misinformation. Republicans just simply have to be not as bad as a Democrat and that's a really really low ****ing bar. I agree that Republicans need to make better choices in the primary, but as far as general elecitons go, there is too much risk in empowering another scum bag Democrat just to make a statement to the Republican party. That being said, I'll just not vote in the next eleciton for anyone that supported this bill.

they can't reconvene. Session is over. If Abbott vetoes, the bill is dead unless he calls a special session and specifically puts this on the agenda.

I didn't vote for either of these clowns in the 2022 primary. Who did Democrats run for governor that election? Oh, yeah, it was Beto, who might be the only Texas politician that is a bigger ****** bag than Dan Patrick. Maybe if the Democrats offered a reasonable alternative, 1000% more honesty, and policy positions that aren't absolutely insane then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Republicans get away with suckage because the alternative is so much worse. I can't stand Texas Republicans and most Texans probably feel the same, but the Democrat party is completely antithetical to our way of life and belief system.

I do wish Texas conservatives would do a better job making selections in the primaries. That is the only place where positive change can be made when the alternative party is complete and total dog*****

This is the fault of corrupt politicians left and right that should have never been empowered.

If anyone wants to read the actual study you can find it here
https://heart.bmj.com/content/early/2025/06/10/heartjnl-2024-325429

I think it's important to note a few things:

  • This was a meta analysis of 24 other studies from around the world not an actual study with participants
  • The various studies had a lot of different variables in terms of what they were studying, types of participants, cannabinoids, etc which made it difficult to control for at times
  • One of the main conclusions is that various forms of cannabis and cannabinoids appear to have a positive association with cardiac events. There was no statement showing causality that I could find.
  • The paper concludes that this is proof we should study cannabis use more to better understand the risk/reward of use (which seems like a good idea).

Also, the doctor quoted in the yahoo article was not related to the study at all and has her own drives and agenda. I'm not saying she's wrong or that her ideas/agenda is bad, just that she has a very clear bias (i didn't feel like digging around to find out what she supports).

Nearly everyone on the right knows and acknowledges that the left isnt responsible for every little thing. They call out the right for it's flaws quite often, especially as this thread shows.

The left is significantly quieter calling out their side when their leaders push too far.

But keep on with your mantra that both sides are equally at fault....

Some speculation I've seen that he could veto it but then call a special session for them to pass something that at least adds some more guardrails but isn't a complete ban like this is, which would seem like a workable middle ground option if he doesn't decide to do a full veto. Sadly my money is on him just letting it pass without doing anything.

As one of the resident liberals here, I have to think this is incredibly frustrating for republicans and conservatives on the board.

To make this an issue when it is so unpopular across the board is mind boggling. Especially when you consider that legalizing cannabis would be an easy win and remove that talking point from you political opponents. I can't recall another issue on this board has brought together some many people for different political standpoints to a near total agreement.

I don't even think smoking tobacco, in moderation, is as bad for you as they say. Look at Asia...they smoke cigarettes at significantly higher rates than us and are much healthier. FIFTY PERCENT OF CHINESE MALES SMOKE. 32% of Korean males. 25% in Korea. I am assuming tobacco smoke is as bad for you if not worse than MJ.

I bet it's the lifestyle of most heavy MJ smokers and vapers that is also a heavy contributor.

It is extremely frustrating. Almost every conservative buddy of mine likes gummies or a toke on the golf course, at the ranch etc.

There has been a massive shift on the right in favor of relaxing laws around MJ and certain psychadelics. Even my buddies who do not partake don't care or see it as some crazy bogeyman. We should at least be opening up to medical MJ like Oklahoma. And don't tax it at too high % of you pump life back into black market.

This may satisfy some of the blue hairds...and I can't blame them for thinking the way they do, it is what it is...but the vast majority on the right think this is stupid.

Indeed it is frustrating. Regardless of what some moralists who just so happen to have right leaning views would have you believe on this very thread, legalization or, in a stricter sense in this case, NOT BANNING an already legal industry, IS THE SMALL GOVERNMENT POSITION.

Spreadsheet got lots of updates on this thread. Far more moralists out there masquerading as small government Republicans than I was expecting.

I recently sent my comments to Abbot's office and received the normal response. I told him to be a Hero for Texans and veto SB3. I told him "Dan Patrick is a good guy, but he's dead wrong on this issue." That was pure pandering. I strongly dislike Dan Patrick. But as stupid as the government is being on this issue, I figured they would say "Wow! This guy likes Dan Patrick, but disagrees with him. We'll give him credit for his opinion and veto Dan's bill! So great to hear from an honest citizen!"
