No its how the black market works, when you tax something, or criminalize it.......black market takes over.schmellba99 said:This is just a dumb mentalitysamurai_science said:That will just make more criminals, similar to banning them.doubledog said:

Where's the high dollar black market alcohol sales? You know it's taxed heavily, right?samurai_science said:No its how the black market works, when you tax something, or criminalize it.......black market takes over.schmellba99 said:This is just a dumb mentalitysamurai_science said:That will just make more criminals, similar to banning them.doubledog said:

Not necessarily. Would you rather have to rely on a shady drug dealer who may not be around because he got thrown in jail or got too stoned the night before, or ran out of what you want, or pay a 15% tax to be able to go into a store and legally purchase what you want and not have to deal with those other externalities? Of course, this can change based on the level of taxation.samurai_science said:No its how the black market works, when you tax something, or criminalize it.......black market takes over.schmellba99 said:This is just a dumb mentalitysamurai_science said:That will just make more criminals, similar to banning them.doubledog said:

Problem is once you give the gubmit the authority to tax something, particularly a vice, they will latch on to it like a crack***** at sunrise finding a rock in her bra.HTownAg98 said:Not necessarily. When have you known Abbot to stand up and stop anything? The System said:
Any chance Abbott can be persuaded not to sign it when it hits his desk? Or is he too deep into the Big Pharma/alcohol money?
The house bill was moving in the right direction, with the exception of limiting flower to .03% and completely banning vapes. It was going to legalize tinctures, edibles, low potency flower, and beverages, to be sold in licensed stores regulated by the TABC.flown-the-coop said:Problem is once you give the gubmit the authority to tax something, particularly a vice, they will latch on to it like a crack***** at sunrise finding a rock in her bra.HTownAg98 said:Not necessarily. This has been shown time and again in places that have legalized it. And I am all for legalization but the patchwork done across the Country and in particular the half-arsed, full-****** approach in Texas has to be changed.
I import from Oklahoma myself and would not touch anything from a "hemp" store in Texas. Hell, in Texas the black market stuff is more consistent, safer than the strip center weed.
The right answer is legalize it. Severe penalties for providing to minors. Hell, severe penalties for driving "high" if folks think that will be a problem.
And let's move on.

I bet there's a greater than 90% chance most of our elected officials are on the cartel payroll in some fashion.BenFiasco14 said:
Thanks morons! I'm sure the drug dealers are excited, and I hope you sleep well at night knowing you aren't impacting drug dealers or children's access to drugs you're empowering it. The dregs will dreg regardless.
Instead, this will impact the 50s aged housewife who takes this stuff to help with her chronic back pain. The veteran who struggled for years with mental health and found relief in THC. The elderly folks who use it to treat arthritis. The folks who use it to help ease their anxiety and depression.
**** you dan Patrick. And **** you, stupid gutless house republicans who claim to be the party of small government. *******s are lucky the alternative is a complete freaking clown show.
So angered by this.
If it was big alcohol money, why wouldn't they have kept the original language in HB 28 that only kept THC beverages legal to be sold in liquor stores under TABC supervision? That would have been a great source of revenue for big alcohol and come with a less problematic customer base.Bunk Moreland said:
Don't overthink it. As Gaeilge said...it's big alcohol money.
Everything in smoke shops is synthetic. Even the THCa "flower" the "dispensaries" sell.Lathspell said:
There's some synthetic, but most of it is still natural and D9 THC or THCa.

Big alcohol could certainly bring their own products to market assuming the have production capability in places where it's legal to produce. They'd have to get hemp suppliers, but that's like any other ingredient.Gaeilge said:Liquor store lobbyists =/= alcohol lobbyistsaggieforester05 said:If it was big alcohol money, why wouldn't they have kept the original language in HB 28 that only kept THC beverages legal to be sold in liquor stores under TABC supervision?
