The entire thing was such an unforced error. No one was asking for this ban. No one was pushing for it and made it an issue. So much so that I don't think many representatives even thought much about it and just voted yes because Patrick was pushing so hard. I'd bet anything most got earfuls after it was passed from constituents and are probably breathing a sigh of relief right now. Dan Patrick put a lot of heat on them and they won't forget that in the special session.

D8 is junk tho, all the products they are selling with D8 are basically synthesized and I won't touch it.

They have gummies marked for sleep in any store. Typically a low dose of THC, 2.5-5, with CBD of the same amounts. I take a 2:2 Indica/CBD for sleep. It works really well and kills the urge for a late night drink.

I'm not sure how Dan Patrick survives this. Abbott just wiped his ass with Patrick's entire political career and de-pantsed him in front of the entire country. And now, he is universally hated by both sides. He's going to get annihilated in the next primary. No idea how he thought this was a good play.

As previously stated, $$$$$$$$.

In case anyone was interested. These have really made a difference in getting better sleep and easing anxiety. I only use these before bed.

I am concerned that Dan Patrick will be the only rep candidate left in rep govt primary when Abbott moves on and crap like this will disenfranchise the more libertarian republican and thus will usher in a real leftist. The whole saying when the pendulum swings hard one way it will swing back just as hard the other way.

Siap, but here's Abbott's statement which reads more like a judicial opinion.

Which, to be fair, Abbott did say he was putting on his judge hat for this in response to reporter questions.

The guy I posted previously, Jeremy Wallace ffrom Chron, did a ton of legwork at the Capitol about this and is worth a follow.

The THC drinks are good, but I prefer using a THC tincture and adding it to my own drinks (mocktails, NA beers, kombucha, tea, etc.).

If it's alcohol-based, it will mix better than oil-based tinctures for obvious reasons.

I make my own tinctures and add sunflower lecithin to further help it blend with liquids. Nothing better than a cup of chamomile tea with lemon and a few drops of tincture about an hour before bed.

Bingo. You seem to be one of few who are intelligent enough to understand this. If Patrick is the only "Republican" candidate, this republican will vote for literally anyone else who has a chance of beating him. I will not under any circumstance put patrick in office and will sacrifice my political party.

Do you decarb your own flower to make it? I did it once before and the taste was not great...but maybe I didn't strain it well enough.

Abbott's tweet about SB3 and some guidelines for the special session is on point. Thank you Gov Abbott for doing the right thing.

The world of all these alternate cannabinoids is really strange. Many of these, like D8, are not easy to extract, and thus require laboratory processes, sometimes utilizing dangerous chemicals to extract the compounds in any meaningful amount.

There's so much garbage out there that doesn't undergo thorough lab testing, so it really isn't safe. I'd never just pop into a gas station and buy some of the crap they sell there. In fact, when I've bought edibles, it's mostly been through very reputable online retailers who publish lab tests.

Back to Abbott, I think his punch list of issues and how to regulate this is spot on. It shouldn't be sold at every convenient store in Texas, and there should be some regulations around when it's sold, who it's sold to, and some restrictions to even be able to sell it. And yes, anyone who sells to minors should be in just as much trouble as if they were selling alcohol to a minor.

The difficult thing about vapes and edibles and all this stuff is, it's way more discrete than a 12-pack of beer or a bottle of alcohol. That's why it's become so problematic in public schools. Further enforcement should include much harsher crackdowns on school campuses for anyone in possession of THC-based products.

tldr; I think we could greatly benefit from more regulations on this to make the products that are in the Texas market safer, and Abbott seems focused on that as opposed to just banning it outright.

Yes that's exactly what I do, I decarb at around 250F for about 45m to 1h, then soak it in everclear (after it cools of course). For my most recent batch, I stuck it in the freezer for about 6 weeks, shaking every few days, then strained it using cheesecloth.

The result was crazy strong. I have these little eyedroppers I bought off amazon, and I literally count 4-5 drops per drink, it's that strong. The previous batch I did, I didn't soak it nearly as long (only like half a day) and it wasn't nearly as strong.

When you say the taste wasn't great, what do you mean? Too much of a "green" weed taste, or alcohol taste? The tincture I make has a slight "van down by the river" smell to it, and I'm not sure how to avoid that, but if you're making mocktails with strong favor profiles (e.g. a NA paloma) you won't taste or smell it. With teas like chamomile, lapsang souchong, etc. I think it actually enhances the flavor and smell, but they already have sorta that wacky tobaccy smell anyway...

Yeah, kind of an bitter herb taste. I have a dry herb vape I use sometimes, and it tasted sort of like the end of it where all the terpenes are gone and it is kind of unpleasant.

I could've overcooked it too. Probably didn't do something right... so I'll give it a try again

By alcohol based, do you mean the nano emulsified thc? I'm also a big fan. Have some flavorless mix in packets that I add to anything. Has also passed by drug sniffing dogs on multiple occasions.

Down side of the oil based stuff in gummies is that that crap sneaks up on you. Also, not as simple as cutting gummy in half if the portion isn't right because it's not mixed uniformly. This is my experience. Not to mention it has made me much more paranoid.

I would start low and work up.

I take full-spectrum CBD gummies, which have done absolute wonders for my sleep. Doesn't get me high in any since

1 gummy is fine for me, but their recommended serving size is 2 which comes out to 50mg CBD, 2mg THC.

Took me a while to experiment and find what works, but now it's locked in.

I have issues with some of his proposals. Continuing blue laws in 2025 is ridiculous. He should be calling for the removal of blue laws. No sales on Sunday, no public consumption, AND an "open" vape or bottle of gummies with the seal removed will be considered open containers. We all know LE is going to be over zealous in enforcement

Some of the testing and manufacturing requirements are going to limit availability. This basically reads like companies will have to register and manufacture in Texas to be Texas compliant. I enjoy lots of products from TN, SC, and other states that would be illegal under his framework.

This is effectively the framework for full marijuana legalization/enforcement being proposed for hemp.

NO the nano emulsified stuff is different. What I make at home is inferior, there's no emulsification process (other than adding sunflower lecithin and shaking it up for a few minutes). The nano emulsification uses high speed blenders and ultrasonic homogenizers (with careful control over ratios) to achieve a product that's way more compatible with water and other liquids, and also creates smaller droplets. This is probably what the specialty THC drinks use.

If you have access to the nano emulsified stuff or buying a tincture off the shelf, that's the way to go. My approach is probably the way to go for the DIY'er who has some extra herb laying around.

My first attempt at this, I used coconut oil and it was horrible. I'd try adding the oil-based tincture to tea or coffee and it would just stick to the cup, or if I tried to stir it, it would stick to the spoon.

I think the alcohol-based approach with lecithin is the best approach for the DIY person, and it's pretty cheap and easy to do, especially if you're willing to let it soak for at least a couple of weeks. It mixes well enough that I don't really have any problems with it with mocktails, but you can't skip adding the lecithin to make it less "sticky."

Anyone thinking about trying edibles and so forth for the first time, particularly with sleep, keep in mind:

1. They can take 45m to feel the effects and often 1.5-2h to get to maximum effect
2. The difference between the right dose and slight overdose could mean the difference between a good night's sleep and a massive panic attack while you lay in bed
3. Edibles seem to last in your system longer than smoking, so if you overdo it, you could have a "hangover" the next day (meaning brain fog, not typical hangover symptoms like nausea and headache).

I'd always start small and work up. Also, find a brand you like and stick with it, because dosing is often quite different. E.g. a 25mg D8 from one vendor might hit harder than a 25mg D8 from another vendor.
