The next 3 spurs games were against:
Cavs - Wed. 2/17
Knicks - Sat. 2/20
Pacers - Mon. 2/22

OKC will be postponed if it is like what happened to the Wizards and Grizzlies, and then clearance for a nationally televised TV game against NOP, although only NBA-TV.

So do these guys basically just stay restricted to a hotel room for a while?

Yes, they quarantine in place until they get a specified number of negative tests in a row. Sometimes they will take everyone else who tested negative home.

Seeing reports that it's 4 Players that tested positive. Any guesses on who the 4 could be?

Athletically, sure. Both are big, long, and move and have way more explosion than guys their size should have. Their games are totally different though.

I think the biggest thing they have in common is that neither of them is/was able to lead their teams to a championship by themselves. David needed Timmy to get him there and imo Giannis is going to need someone else to get the Bucks to the promised land. But truthfully, quite a few players are in that category.

The Thinking Basketball channel had a great vid on D-Rob and discussed his limitations in the playoffs, and I think the same principles can apply to Giannis. When your offense revolves around out-athleteing people there's a ceiling to how much of an offensive engine you can be. In the playoffs you start facing off against the best of the best defenses playing at full throttle with a lot of effort being put into gameplanning by the coaching staff. You HAVE to be able to comfortably create and make difficult shot attempts because sometimes that is all a defense is going to give you for several possessions at a time.

Yeah I saw somewhere that Demar's dad passed away. He had taken some time earlier in the year when he was sick.

And I also saw that they recalled Samanic and Tre Jones from the G-League. Should be a good test against OKC.

Is it implied that the players out for health and safety concerns are the ones who had COVID? Will be interesting to see how much time Pop gives Samanic considering both Rudy and Keldon are out. Really good opportunity for playing time, hopefully he makes the most of it.

Good article about the Spurs on The Ringer website:
Quote:

The bigger-picture question, though, is how the Spurs' front office will approach rounding out the roster moving forward. San Antonio is two and a half games out of fourth place in the West; it's also three games out of 10th. As trade season kicks into gear, will the Spurs try to see what their expiring-contract veteransDeRozan, Aldridge, Gay, and Millsmight bring back? Or, emboldened by their pre-shutdown form, might they feel confident enough in what they have to consider buying rather than selling? If they stand pat, those vets will all hit unrestricted free agency after the season; if none are re-signed, San Antonio is "projected to have over $50 million in room in 2021-22," according to ESPN's Bobby Marks. It'll be difficult for the Spurs to shop at the top of a market in which a ton of teams will have a lot of money to spend; if DeRozan is willing to come back at a reduced (but likely still very high) rate, that might be as good a way to spend some money as any scenario San Antonio can reasonably entertain.

Still: If the Spurs' brain trust can find a young power forward who could approximate (and ideally improve upon) what Gay provides, and another defensive big to platoon with Poeltl (ideally one who doesn't miss 70 percent of his free throws), they could have the beginnings of something speciala team with the spine of a top-10-caliber defense, and a bunch of offensive perimeter talent to go with it. After a few years searching for what's next after the abrupt ending of the Kawhi Leonard era, it feels like the Spurs have found somethingif not a fully fleshed-out identity and framework, then at least a path toward crafting them. Getting there will take a lot of development, and at least a little luck. But with a bit of both, the Spurs might just stick around the top of those lineup rankingsnot as the outliers who seem like they don't belong, but as one of the heavyweights firmly in the thick of a title chase once more.

Thanks for the podcast rec.

Anyone catch the Spurs second half schedule? Yeeesh. That's a lot of games in a short amount of time.

We need to finish February and get through March strong because our end of season is gonna be pretty tough.

That was a horrendous end sequence. Tied at 99 with 10 seconds and Patty double dribbles to give okc the ball with 3 seconds left. Then on the inbound, Jakob goes for a steal and let's Horford get going down hill forcing Patty to help, leaving Dort wide open in the corner to hit the game winner at the buzzer. Just stupid brain lapses.

I would rather have the ball in Dejounte's hands at the end of the game the way he's been playing.

Fortunate that next game isn't until Saturday. Hopefully our Covid guys won't have to miss too many more games.

True, although before the last turnover Mills had scored 7 of the Spurs last 9 points.

I just can't get over how horrible that was. You have the ball with 10 seconds left. The worst case scenario should be going to OT.

Jacob takes the blame.
Quote:

After Poeltl lunged at the ball, Horford dribbled twice into the key before kicking the ball to Dort, who was left wide open after Patty Mills drifted over to help with Horford.

"I put myself out of position by going for a steal-slash-foul because I knew we had one to give," Poeltl said. "It just wasn't an aggressive enough play on my part. I should have went into (Horford's) body more to make sure I got the foul. As soon as I got out of position, we had to scramble, and (he) threw it into the corner."

True, but Jacob should have never been put in that situation in the first place. The turnover was much worse.

From Marc Spears. So actually legitimate. I don't see us getting much for Aldridge so a trade would be unlikely but maybe DeMar. Not convinced the Spurs would trade DeMar in light of his father passing. Doesn't seem very Spursy.

This. Your veteran "culture" leader with a terrible turnover, with plenty of time left to boot.

I get down on our guys pretty easily but the OKC loss doesn't bother me. We are missing 3 of our top 4 players, down 6 guys and Patty, who had it going up until that point made a mistake. It was the right move to have the ball in his hands at the time.

Yeah I was more sad they missed an opportunity to add a win despite being severely short handed. Going into the game I wasn't expecting a win at all.

It was interesting seeing Luka and Trey Jones get some burn. I thought Luka looked way better defensively and was pretty effective attacking the offensive boards. And Trey showed off his defensive ability. I suppose being name defensive player of the year in the ACC actually means something.

Oh I totally agree with this. They did pretty well considering. Like Natural said, I was disappointed that they weren't able to pull the win when they were so close.

Big win and glad to have Demar back. We may lack the star power to really contend come playoff time, but games like this (and the okc loss) really highlight our depth. We're getting quality minutes from guys that are usually end of the bench or G League guys. Keita Bates-Diop really played well in his limited minutes the last couple games enough where it's not a complete liability having to turn to a guy that's been playing in the G League. Lyles also really stepped up and had a very solid game tonight.

Yep! And even though he hasn't scored much, I like what I a seeing from Luka. He is playing decent defense grabbing some big rebounds. Earlier he just seemed lost but that isn't the case any more. Now if his shots start to fall, that will be even better.

He's not playing as timid is the biggest thing. That out almost put back dunk he had was a pretty clear example that's he's just much more confident out there IMO. He still needs time Austin, but it does give me a little bit of hope for him.
