If we get a decent 1st at the trading deadline, move Rudy. Same with Patty.

And obviously, Move LMA and DD.

I think we keep Lyles. He plays hard for the minutes he is in. 11/10 per 36, doesn't turn it over much and hit 46% of his corner threes last year.

Kind of surprised that Gordon Hayward didn't pick up his 36mm option for the year. He's a UFA. Not many teams have good cap space, though.

Especially since he was playing for Brad Stevens.

I don't think Hayward would have opted out if he didn't think he could make it back. I also don't think Boston would have extended his opt in deadline to yesterday if they didn't think something could be worked out. This has S&T written all over it.

Simmons said on his podcast that no one opts out without having a deal in place

I think its funny how Spurs fans think completely differently than the Spurs front office.

It wouldn't surprise me if LMA and DD both get extensions. I do expect that Patty might be traded. I also expect Poeltl to be signed.

Guess they should offer you a job then.

They should.

I don't know if I would do anything differently. But after all these years I have a pretty good handle on how they operate. What I don't know is why they operate the way they do. I've always suspected they felt limited by our status as a "small market". The reality is they don't take a lot of chances.

The Spurs favor stability. They actually like to lock up players on contracts even if they sometimes over pay. Fans hate it but I see their reasoning. LMA or Mills or Murray locked into a deal for a couple years gives you certainty. They don't make a lot of trades. When they do, it's always because there is a specific target in mind. Davis last year was do make room to sign Morris. The George Hill trade was to get Kawhi in the draft. They don't participate in the "gather assets" style of team building. That's different than many GMs who are always making deals in the spirit of trying to incrementally collecting assets.

The end result is less trades in general. Free Agents are targeted when there is cap space. I don't recall any year where the Spurs started the year with a lot of space available, they tend to spend it when they have it. I don't recall the last time the Spurs didn't own their 1st round pick. It's not excited for most fans. Fans want you to blow things up or make crazy trades. A lot of people think that is the only way to build a championship team. I know a lot of GMs think that too. The Spurs obviously don't.

I agree with everything you've said. I just enjoy playing armchair GM as a fan sometimes.

Edit: I trust our front office obviously. But the only confounding thing to me will be if they stick with the DeMar/Aldridge pairing that has statistically been awful.

I need to meet some Thunder or Rockets (now Philly) fans to see how they like having a GM who is constantly moving pieces around. Presti and Morey wheel and deal as much as anyone I've ever seen. Following all that must be fun but also nerve wracking.

Presti, not Kawhi, is the real one that got away.

So for off-season, I would like to trade DD and LMA for youth/assets.

Get value for Patty.

I would like to keep Gay, but if a team needs him at the trade deadline wants him, let him go.

I want the young guys to get reps. We aren't winning it this year or next year.

Resign Jakob Poeltl.
Resign Drew Eubanks.

Go after Harry Giles and Christian Wood
See if you can get Jahlil Okafor or Willie Cauley-Stein cheap

Until we move LMA and Demar (assuming we're don't have to take back a huge salary in return), we only have the MLE and vet minimum to use on free agents.

I meant Harry Giles or Wood. I think someone will overpay Wood, though.

You can split the MLE and you can use vet mins.

Gotcha. And I agree Wood will get over paid. Stretch bigs value has never been higher.

Not quite. Gotta make a decision by midnight tonight whether or not to waive Lyles or guarantee his contract. Plus there's still Poeltl and anyone potentially new if he signs elsewhere.

KOC talked about that exact trade (mcD and turner). Dipo would be a weird fit imo.

McD and Turner makes sense. I don't think Dipo will be the same and Turner+Dipo is way too much.

Only two teams can pay Gordie over 25mm, and Atl doesnt want him. That leaves the Knicks

Wonder if Blake will be on the move. Otherwise this is some serious Drummond seller's remorse.

Pistons traded for Dedmon, too.

I'll trade them DD or LMA for Blake if they add in some picks. Not like they are going to use the picks correctly anyway.

Brooklyn getting VanFleet and Ibaka could be scary.

Also means there is about zero market for Harden.

HTF do they have cap space?! You would thing a S&T would have to be worked out.
