Feels like a lot of local writers and reporters are thinking the odds are better that the Mavs trade their pick rather than draft at 9.

Jazz are in shambles... Kessler won't agree to less than $30 million per year and they aren't going to come to an agreement with Keyonte before the season starts.

Paying Kessler what he wants would be insane given his lack of offensive versatility. Centers like rim are relatively easy to replace. Keyonte wants a rookie max but is possibly the worst defender in the league.

Peterson would be a perfect fit on that team, but doesn't want to play for them.

They'll still end up with Boozer, but now 4 of their 5 best players play the 4/5.

Strange happenings there and seems like they'll be forced to make some moves.

Apron suicide to pay a role playing non shooter that much.

But JJJ refuses to be a center and demands one next to him. That's why Memphis drafted Edey after trading Adams.

Team has big problems.

Kessler, JJJ, boozer, Lauri doesn't really make sense

The JJJ trade never made sense to me, unless they've always planned on unloading Lauri.

They should let the Lakers pay that much for Kessler and S&T him to destroy the Lakers future. They should trade both JJJ and Markkanen so Boozer can be the franchise 4. If the Kings get Acuff taken out from under them then they should trade Keyonte to them because that makes perfect sense.

Their group of players are all so odd individually and they're disgusting as a group. Reset again to build around Boozer and Ace.

Yeah, their build is weird. Lauri has only shot 35% from three the last two years. Never healthy, weak rebounder, no defense, and really needs other people to set him up. He's a 3rd option on a great team, but he is getting almost the 30% max. The best SG they are rostering is Cody Williams.

And they have to make big decisions right now - they can't just run it for a year, because Kessler doesnt want to be there. Typically you would want to run the team for a year and see how it works. But if Kessler demands too much and wants out, then what do you do? JJJ and Boozer aren't centers and JJJ refuses to play center. Run it back with Nurkic instead? Yuk.

Might be a place to get some assets for Gafford.

Some type of 3 way where LAL gets Kessler, Utah gets Gaff, we get 25 in this draft, maybe another future pick, plus whatever salary LAL needs to shed.

Trae Young opting out lol

Could be misremembering, but I thought this was always the play. He's obviously not a $50 million player. I thought the wizards were trading for him with the understanding he would opt out and sign a longer deal at a lower annual number.

It's just bat S crazy he's declining a 48 million dollar option. Period.

He could play this year on the option, do his normal then get a reasonable extension next year.

I am sorry but the Wizards are so stupid.

Is there really going to be a bidding war for Trae Young? Seems like they must already have a deal with the Wizards in place, otherwise that is risky on his part.

Not to alarm anybody, but apparently Jake Fischer reported Nate Ament is one of the players the Mavs are considering drafting….

I have chosen to cope with this by telling myself it's posturing to bait someone into trading up if they want to draft Ament

Hard to believe the Raptors GM would draft a long wing

Feels like Burries or bust. They take him if he's there, or they move back if he isn't

It definitely seems like this going going to be a draft night deal if one happens. It's probably Burries and maybe one other guard or they trade back.

Man, this would mean passing on at least one of Flemings, Brown, or Wagler… It would need to be a really sweet deal to pass on one of those guys.

We're talking about OKC giving both picks plus Cason or two rotation guys.
Tksymm7

I really think the only other guard that might be available at 9 will be Flemings. The more I read and listen to podcasts the more I am convinced Wagler, Acuff, Brown Jr. and one of Flemings/Burries are going 5/6/7/8. I just believe the group of guards is a tier better than guy Mara, Yaxel, Ament etc. and no one in the 5-8 range is going to reach. In fact I think we'll see someone trade up into those spots to take one of the guards.

I do feel the same way about not drafting one of the guards though. Even if it is Flemings, I think he makes us a lot better and would be a great PG to sit behind Kyrie, so not getting that guy would suck because the upside is there.

ETA: apparently there are legitimate questions around Mikel Brown Jr. and his inconsistency. I don't think anyone questions the upside, just the way to get there.

I'm thinking the same as you. After all the bluster and posturing around certain guys, I'm pretty sure it's going to be some combination of 4 guards that go between 5 and 8.

I'll have no issue taking any of them at 9 (other than Acuff, who isn't making it past SAC, so it's moot) assuming 5-8 are all guards.

I think it would be a mistake to leave Flemings on the board, but I'll be content with Burries in any scenario.

I'll be curious if Wagler falls to 6 or 7 if the Mavs wouldn't trade up. I have no clue but wonder if that's an option.

That's the only person I can fathom the Mavs wanting to trade up for. And given there is reporting they could want to move up, I'm thinking it would be to stop a Wagler slide.

Minor trade, but really gets OKC off the hook as far as roster restrictions. Doesn't help OKC if they're trying to get under the 2nd apron, but who knows what they are trying to do.

Makes sense that it's a team from the east, because it's a pretty small return for a helpful trade.

Good deal for the Hawks, they get better.

A huge swing, and now you have to think perhaps Yaxel is in play.

Huge risk hire. I wonder if this tips our hand in who we draft? Yaxel, Morez, or Mara?

I think it 100% means 1 of the big 3 Michigan players are.

Agree. Pretty light return for OKC but I don't think Presti had much leverage here. He needed at taker for Wiggins without taking back any $$$. You're right that it doesn't get them under the second apron yet but hopefully some other moves start to crystalize in the next 36 hours.

I like it alot for the Hawks and for Wiggins.

I don't think this tips the scale towards a Michigan player, but more so says that the Mavs have probably liked the Michigan players from the get go. You wouldn't just move your draft board around based on hiring their coach 36 hours before the draft.

I don't love hiring a college guy, but if you are going to do it, May is probably my pick

I think everyone is saying the same thing. Of course the coach isn't gonna dictate the pick, but it should reveal how they feel about the current players being targeted in that range.

Really interesting hire. Nice pull by Masai to get a guy who wasn't expected to leave.

Notable that Michigan played a large, bludgeoning lineup last year. Not the direction I would have thought they'd go, but maybe he'll implement a different philosophy in the NBA.
