that's true -- just funny when you compare it to the typical post NFL Round 1 grading, where I feel like the journalists are intentionally punitive
It's hard to see Morez, Lively, and Flagg playing well offensively together. Ultimately any vision here would have Flagg / Morez as part of a best-5 closing lineup. Will need 3 other shooters to round it out. If Morez can at least be a Draymond level 3-pt threat then you can spread the floor offensively while maintaining defensive versatility and toughness. I don't expect Flagg to ever be a great 3-point shooter, but he should project to get to league average at least.
It also looks like Masai / Schmitz are going to value length and toughness over skill. If Flemings or Acuff had dropped, I'm not sure the Mavs would have even taken them. They probably wouldn't have valued a guy like Philon either and may have preferred De Larrea over him. I don't hate it, but ultimately somehow they will need to find a top level scorer to pair with this group. Otherwise you are just building the Toronto Raptors of the West.

I like the ability to be big and stay big with what we have on the roster....and that would stay true even if we dealt gaff and/or bagley. It would be great to get another guy who can play 1-3 and shoot lights out if possible via trade.

I was hesitant on Naji, but Stein is pretty adamant that they love Naji and his contract, and it would take quite the offer to pry him loose. He's also probably good enough to play guard/slasher with Kyrie. And because we are in need of those guys I just put him in the keep pile.
Seems like the type of player you're better of trading in season/close to the deadline because his value will be higher to a playoff team/contender who views him as a "missing piece" to get over the hump.

It's still not clear what direction the Mavs are going here. I would probably have leaned towards converting Kyrie, PJ, Gafford into under 25 year old players and/or picks. Then going into a development next year, maintaining cap space, and trying to get ~17% chance of keeping my Top 2 pick next lottery. Still, if the offers for Kyrie, PJ, Gafford are just not good right now then they could keep them. Try to solve your guard issues with MLE, TPE, and trades, then compete. If you keep the team in tact and add Kyrie +2 veteran guards then I could see them being competitive for the West play-in. But long term I'm just not sure what that gets you.
Having said that, whichever direction they go with they should try to add another guard prospect in the 2nd round. Low expectations but at least Evans and Thomas seem worthy of a first round grade. Might as well try to add one and see if they can develop.

This sounds slightly positive on him playing in SL and for the Mavs this season.
It just seems a bit odd to spend capital to go get a guy in the first round and then tell him to literally not come to the states at all.
I think I heard that the benefit is that his rookie contract doesn't start yet and he obviously won't count against the cap. So theoretically, your guy is playing professional basketball and developing, while not hindering your roster construction.
That makes sense for some teams who typically pick around 25, but for us, we should be letting him learn on the fly against NBA players.

What's interesting is that 0 NBA players were moved during the draft last night. I have no idea what the deal with that is. You used to have teams taking on contracts in order to acquire late 1st draft capital. It was all 2nd rounders moved for all the movement late in the 1st last night...

I paired that with the reporting that Memphis wants to get rid of Ja Morant, but teams want Memphis to attach picks to that contract. Came up with the following that allows Memphis to keep future picks:

They still have Walter Clayton and Pippen Jr. Anderson, Coward, and Spencer can all handle a little. Obviously they'll run a ton of offense through Boozer. But the Mavs can throw in AJ Johnson if they want him lol. We don't exactly have a PG to give.

lol let's relax. He's a summer league sideshow until proven otherwise (45' inch vert is fun!). The Mavs season will hinge on Free Agency/Trade, not on anyone they draft tonight.
