I agree that it sure seems like that is the case... But who could it be? Harden? Garland? Giddey?

Those are the only playmakers who could conceivably be traded who fit in the TPE. Garland might not even fit.

Kyrie sort of makes sense for them, but it makes no sense for the Mavs because he's our only decent ballhandler right now lol.

It makes sense if the Mavs are interested in one more bite at the lottery tree. You've got your 3 and 4 men of the future with Flagg and Morez, and a pretty decent young center with Lively. You send Kyrie to Charlotte, get your pick back plus maybe take back Tidjaune Salaun and let the kids play this year to see what you have and then grab a lead guard next year in the draft.

I'm not sure the Mavs getting their pick back is that big of a deal. The best player is probably Stokes who would have likely been drafted 5th in this class. Maybe there will be one or two players who make a leap, but even then the Mavs still have their pick Top 2 protected in that case. I would be all for trading Kyrie for future assets, I'm just not sure unprotecting the Mavs 2027 pick is the asset I would target.

The Mavs twitter slop accounts are posting that Sergio and Seva are coming to the US. I think they are pulling info from family social media and Spanish media.

Seems like the players are at least coming over to meet with the team. Hopefully they stay for summer league and at least Sergio stays for the season.

I had never heard of Tobi Lawal before the draft but after watching some highlights he's one of the springiest athletes I've ever seen. Not sure he can do anything besides dunk though!

Everytime he jumps all I can think is "Lawow!"

Definitely a fun highlight package. Hopefully he can develop a serviceable shot and become similar to DJJ.

Not sure what the on ball defense is like but his block rate is absolutely insane. Maybe he can find a role even with a bad shot if he can prove he can guard the bigger ball handlers in the league.

Thunder just added 3 years at $25 million per for Hartenstein. Not what I was expecting at all.

Surely they still have to unload some people… Even after trading Wiggins and Joe already.

They are still about $15M above the 2nd apron.

Dort has a team option for $17M. So they can just cut him and call it a day.

But why would they not save that money for Cason or Ajay or somebody who they will have to pay soon?

They have a Cason contract problem to address very soon and Ajay and/or McCain by next offseason. They need to start looking towards the future.

Yeah, they get crunched again next summer because SGA goes from 40 to 60M, Wallace apparently wants 4y108M (So he goes from 7M to 25M) and Kenrich expires.

How much can they shave off next year?

I think Presti sees this Hart contract as trade-able next offseason if necessary (even if OKC ownership has to pay up on the kicker).

Like GS said, all that's really necessary to get under the 2nd apron for 26-27 is shedding Dort. But more bills are coming due next year with SGA's raise and Cason's potential raise.

I'm getting more and more vibes that Cason isn't going to agree to an extension this offseason. If that's the case, i wonder if Presti might try to move him before the season.

I think Cason is gone before the season. Not only is it a situation where he could be gone for nothing next offseason, but there are already too many good players in the backcourt to play this season.

But if they drop Dort, who was kind of unplayable for parts of the playoffs, Wallace is their main POA defender. AC turns 33 at the all star break next year and McCain isn't a defender. JDub can do it - when healthy - but in an ideal world you don't have your stars acting as POA defenders to keep them fresh for offense.

This is why we wanted the aprons. Make the deep teams make tough decisions. I don't see how they can realistically give Wallace that 108M deal he wants, especially when they gave Caruso that 4y81M deal.

I honestly do not mind the aprons in theory. I think it gives teams flexibility if they want it. OKC is a good example imo. Go over the 2nd apron this year. Screw it. Bite the bullet for a year, go heavy and try to win it all. You have all that talent so try to make it work for a year see what happens.

My issues with the aprons is that they become far too punitive in a sport whose foundation is paying its stars astonishingly high wages. I mean in some cases we are talking about essentially doubling a team's salary because they are over the 2nd apron. That feels a little far.

I think the Aprons are set up where you can go over them if your team is set, and OKC really does have a team set. So OKC can do that and be ok. But they are looking at massive rises in cap numbers two years in a row with the salary cap increasing less than expected. So I think they might be ok being over the 2nd apron next year, but they dont want to do it this year AND next year. They are going to end up right at the 2nd apron this year, then have SGA get a 20M raise + Wallace potentially getting a 20M raise next year.

OKC also has the Clippers, Nuggets and Spurs 1st rounders next year coming in. Spurs pick via Sacramento (Spurs traded the first to Kings for Fox, Kings flipped that first to OKC to draft Nique Clifford.
