GS, HOU, UTA, and LAL
The Spurs should beat all of those teams, but none of them jump out as a team I want to play like the Clippers did last year. That has a lot to do with how the Spurs are playing right now compared to last year (TP and Manu coming back will hopefully make a big difference). On the flip side of the coin, none of them look like a horrible matchup like Memphis did two years ago.
In order of how much I want to play them:
HOU
GS
UTA
LAL
Houston - Harden is probably good for a win on his own (and I really dislike that guy), but they don't have dangerous players at multiple positions and levels of the roster like some other teams do. They play hard, but they don't have the depth or experience to beat the Spurs 4 out of 7. Add in the proximity and potential for banter as ancillary benefits.
Golden State - Steph Curry is a tough cover for anyone because he can shoot for volume and percentage from anywhere. Everyone knows he can shoot threes, and he still hits 3.5 per game at 45%. That is astounding. Now add in David Lee, Klay Thompson, maybe Andrew Bogut, and an irritatingly effective Carl Landry.
Utah - I don't want to play the Jazz because they have a variety of good low post guys and play with a ton of energy. Jefferson/Millsap/Favors/Kantor is a tough card for the Spurs to cover and box out with Duncan/Splitter/Blair/Bonner. Mo Williams always plays well against the Spurs because his game is tailor-made to what the Spurs like to force teams to do, and wildcard Alec Burks reminds me way too much of Devin Harris in 2006.
LAL - Who would want to play Nash, Kobe, Howard, Pau, and Artest? This smells a little like the LAL 2004 1998 all-star team and the bench looks weak, but that is a ton of talent on the starting lineup and the bench has a couple guys who are capable of coming up big for a game or two in Jamison (getting old, but he has 27 and a 33 point games this season) and Blake (you can't leave this guy open). Kobe's ego and Mike D'Antoni are the two biggest wildcards in that series. I like that the Spurs have Leonard and Green to throw at Kobe, and Duncan/Parker know how to deal with Nash as well as anyone does. Howard will probably be frustrated and in foul trouble for much of that series, but at the end of the day there are a lot of holes in the dike and very possibly not enough fingers. But it sure would be fun to be the team that knocks LA out of the playoffs.
