Actually, a one-year deal may work out really well. I'm not too enthused about this year's FA class. For what we need anyways.

The end of the big 3 era is quickly approaching.

NBAtv is showing highlights from every game of the 2005 finals. Really good stuff.

Typed this up for a different thread, realized it made more sense here.

I have a hard time seeing the Pacers as anything but the Grizzlies with a lot fewer wins (or the Spurs with less depth and no Tony Parker). They give the Heat problems because of their posts, but the Grizzlies are just as good at the 4-5. The only real advantage I see is that the Pacers get offense and defense from their whole starting lineup whereas the Grizzlies have to make offense/defense choices 1-3 other than Conley. To counteract that though, the Pacers have no bench at all.

Duncan/Splitter/Diaw/Bonner is an immensely better defensive post presence than Bosh/Haslem/Anderson/James/Battier, and none of the Spurs' posts are offensive liabilities.

If the Pacers win tonight, I think we'll see Leonard and Paul George largely counteract each other (which is a win for the Spurs), Danny Green lock down either Hill or Stephenson, and Parker win whatever matchup he gets. Hibbert will be able to get his hook shot off, but he won't do it from as close to the basket and he won't be fast enough to cover the Spurs' pick and roll or protect the rim and cover the Spurs' posts on their high percentage jump shots. At the end of the day, the Pacers have 5 good players but the Spurs come at you in waves; they can play small or big, they have crazy depth, and they have a lot of mismatches to choose from.

If the Heat win, Miami is going to have even more trouble in the low post. There will be no defensive break because the Spurs have to play a Mahinmi or Hansborough. I like Green on Wade or Allen, anyone boxing out Bosh, and the fact that Anderson and Haslem won't hurt you enough to keep you from helping off (assuming the second rotation is there for Haslem). Leonard/Diaw is a decent 1-2 punch to throw at Lebron in conjunction with the Spurs' help defense. The Heat can not win 4 against the Spurs unless they figure out something new.

Good analysis, and I agree that Spurs have the advantage over either team. But I can practically guarantee we'll be considered the underdogs against Miami by most media.

I said basically the same thing in the Spurs/Heat finals thread. Great minds!

“I would never say a player is better than me when I know their (sic) not. Not for no one. #uandiknowwhatsgoingon”

Tuesday he revealed who he was talking about: Danny Green and Manu Ginobili.

Jackson insists Popovich wanted him to admit Green and Ginobili were better. More than likely, Popovich simply told Jackson they were better. That’s why they were playing instead of him.

Pride wouldn’t let Jackson accept that, and he admitted as much Tuesday. After showing the initial flash of anger when talking about Popovich, he later said Popovich knows him well, and that the release “was best for me so I wouldn’t go crazy.”

Or, as Jackson said Tuesday, again smiling, “I wouldn’t want me on the team, either.”

We knew a couple of months ago that the player was green. Cant believe he thought Manu should have taken a back seat to him too. Talk about denial.

Well, I liked Jackson and thought he would be good for us but there is a Spurs way of doing things and crying like a baby isn't one of them because you don't get more playing time.

I know we made it to the finals without him, but man we could have really used him to guard LBJ this series.

Also, I'm at work right now so I can't post a picture, but the new SI cover with the big three is awesome.

SJax's pride did him in. He should've shut his mouth and taken his role like everyone else does. He could've been a master towel-waver like Patty.

You saying we need to go after another wing Ulrich?

Operation Replace Ginobili (perimeter scoring, backup pg) is still in effect, and we still only have one SF. Finding a guy who can play 1-3, 1-2, or 2-3 would fill a lot of holes.

I'd prefer Redick or Smith out of that list.

I very very much want Iguodala. The only downside is that you have 6 starters and 6 crunch time players with Iggy, someone would have to be ok with coming off the bench and sitting in the last 2 minutes.

Redick would be nice because there's no pressure to start him. There are a number of guys on that list who would fit in nicely though. Don't like JR Smith.

Don't really want Iggy. His defense is nice, but his jumper is so damn inconsistent.

Plus he would command a pretty large salary.

The Spurs have plenty of room to work this offseason, that's what happens when you pay two all-NBA players a combined 22mm. Iguodala can handle the ball, create his own shot, and run the fast break. We have plenty of shooters (although I suspect he could hit set shots just fine), the Spurs need someone besides Parker who can go out and get buckets.

Plus, that gives them 3 elite defenders and a lot more lineups with ridiculous length to choose from.

I also think that if Tyreke Evans goes to San Antonio, he becomes an immediate all-star and makes every commentator talk about how the Spurs pulled off yet another coup right under everyone's nose. He's my second choice at wing. Maybe first, since he's only 23 and Iguodala is 29 or 30.

I'd rather have Tyreke Evans than Iggy. I think his offensive upside is higher, he's younger, and I think he'll cost a little less.

I was looking at Timmy's game logs for another thread and some of his regular season performances really jumped off the page.

Duncan was one putback away from a 30-20 game this year. Had a 22 point and season-high 21 rebound game.

8 games with 15 or more rebounds.

10 games with 5 or more assists.

23 games with 20+ points, 10 games with 25+, and 5 games with 30+ points.

12 times he had 5 or more blocks, and his season-best was 7.

11.7 shots per game isn't much for a ball hog on a crappy team.

Progressively fewer minutes and fewer assists each season.

37mpg and 20/6 as a rookie for 25 wins.
31mpg for 15/3.5 as a 4th year for 28 wins.

In four years, he has jacked up 2.0 threes per game, despite being a 27% lifetime three shooter.

No one on last year's team had over 4.0 assists, which has to be some sort of record.
