Adam Hanga signed a 4 year deal in Europe. Doesn't look like he will be coming over any time soon. Keeping my fingers crossed for JLIII and ZaZa.

According to Stein we are the front runners right now with Miami and Cleveland trailing us both. You got to think that there would be more room for him in Miami. But the Spurs have the advantage in that he can learn from Timmy why he is still playing and the fact that Pop knows how to limit players with injuries. I think he'd be worth the risk of a couple million a year.

Hearing Spurs and Tiago Splitter have ramped up talks and are making progress toward deal terms

Probably right but all these contract usually have a reasonable buyout clause. Just depends on what it is if the Spurs like what he's doing a couple years from now.

Well I don't think $9 mil per year is a bad deal for Splitter, but I don't know about a 5 year deal. Can someone that understands salaries and cap room better than I do calculate about how much money SA has now to use on Ginobili/free agents?

5 yrs./$45MM. Wow didn't expect a contract that long. But I'd say $9MM a year is about right. After re-signing Manu and Neal, it doesn't look like we will have a lot to play around with, unless we amnesty Bonner.

I would still love to get Kirilenko and think he'd be a realistic fit.

they'll regret the 5 years. He's 28 years old and i dont see this looking too hot in the last 2 years of the contract

Too much money for Tiago. Just wow. Fail IMO.

I also didn't realize you could extend contracts after your qualifying offer was made.

Lets see the details of the contract though. Could have options or be backloaded to make it seem better.
Sher Thing

It's a new contract with Bird Rights. Not an extension.

Well maybe for all we know the last year will be a team option and the fourth year partially guaranteed.

5y45mm for Tiago?

Amnestying Bonner is a ****ing MUST now if the Spurs want to do anything else in FA.

4 Mil for Bonner is a complete joke.

Competent starting centers come with inflated prices. Asik got 3/$25 from Houston, so $9 per year isn't that outrageous. I'm very weary of a 5 year deal. As others have hinted, the 5th year might be a team option or something.

oh and they should've waited for a qualifying offer from another team before extending him. wasn't he a restricted free agent? He's not better than Pekovic on minn, so he wasn't getting that type of money for that many years.

Team extend the qualifying offer to keep the bird rights

I understand what the going rates are. Still overpayed and too many years.

Waiting for the contract details though.

There won't be a fifth year on the Splitter deal. The terms will be four years, $36 million-plus, sources tell Y! Sports.

A little better now.

Since we have the bird rights, we still have a good amount to spend on other free agents since his salary can go over the soft cap right? Or am I understanding that wrong?

Tiago? Seriously?
Really hope they sign a guard not named Neal
Really gonna be pissed if they don't bring in someone else to help
Sher Thing

The key to signing other players with cap room is Manu. Not Tiago.

Tiago had a cap hold of 7.5M. So even if they agree on a 9M/yr contract like this, they can just wait to officially sign him and go against the cap like you said.

For Ginobili it's different because his cap hold right now is closer to 19M so the Spurs obviously can't keep his cap hold and sign other players. They need to re-sign Manu to a low contract to clear the cap hold.

His qualifying offer was only 4.9mm. So that is his cap hold.

That makes sense
Do y'all think they go after a guard or PG? Actually the spurs need both
Sher Thing

Next the Spurs either have to re-sign Manu or renounce his rights.

His cap hold was still $7.5M.

Since the Spurs don't really know how much Manu is going to be on the books for yet next season they can't really approach anyone with more than MLE offers ( 4 years $22M).

I wish AK would take that MLE contract.
Guitarsoup

AK probably get 3y25 min.

Wish there was a halfway decent combo guard available at 4y22.

I wish we had assets to trade New Orleans for Vasquez.
Sher Thing

Just thinkin out loud here but after the Splitter signing and if Manu makes around 5M/yr then the Spurs should hypothetically have around 5M in cap space (Closer to 9 if Bonner is amnestied).
