Spurs can free up around 7M with pretty relative ease. That is a nice contract to offer someone like AK, Milsap, etc.

Collison is a career 12 point, 5 assist, 2.3:1 a:t ratio, 46-36-86 guy. That's a pretty solid backup pg. Advanced statistics do say that he's a pretty atrocious defender though.

Pop would probably kill him by Christmas. He makes some horrible decisions and plays a pretty dumb brand of basketball.

At the amount of money the Spurs are looking at having to spend, no player will come w/o faults. Collison would probably do pretty well in a backup role, where Ginobili could help take some of the playmaking pressure off and just let him be a fastbreak machine/3rd ballhandler.

And Millsap would be awesome, but he'll probably get way more than that from some other team.

In other NBA news, I'm hearing that Paul Millsap is in serious talks with the Atlanta Hawks. Trying to confirm and get terms.

I don't know why the Hawks would want him. Seems like they should be trying to get a C and let Horford move to his natural PF position. I think getting Asik from Houston would be the best move for them.

Was thinking the same thing. Weird fit in Atlanta.

I've always liked Collison but clearly he's not very highly thought of. He couldn't even contribute to a bad Mavs team. I really wonder what the Spurs are thinking for backup PG. De Colo, Josephs and Mills are all on the roster. None of them cost all that much but none of them could stay on the floor in the Finals.

In a perfect world, I would play the remainder of FA out like this.

Renounce Neals rights
Amnesty Bonner
Trade De Colo and possibly Mills in salary dump move.

The above things could potentially create up to $7M in cap space.

Sign AK to multi-year deal. preferably 3 years.
Sign Billups with vet min.

Tony - Joseph - Billups
Green - Manu - Belinelli
Kawhi - AK - Manu
Duncan - AK - Diaw
Splitter - Diaw - Baynes

Something like this. Also add another vet min big.

Man I really don't know who else would be in the running for Kirilenko. All the teams with cap space just don't seem like good fits.

Cleveland could be the only one to worry me since they have a lot of $ but I doubt they are willing to give him a multi-year deal.

Honestly, I don't know why we'd be after Collison. Behind Parker we have Joseph, Decolo, and Mills that are all PGs, we've gotta let one of those guys do some kind of developing during the season. As far as who runs the offense in the second unit, Manu has basically always been the second unit point. I know he was wildly inconsistent this las season, but he's still potentially better than any of those guys, plus we just brought in Belinelli to help with the second unit ball handling. I'd rather use whatever we can to try and land AK47, who can also help with creating his own shot in the second unit and back up Kawhi at the 3 and play 4.

Dallas haha

Billups? Hell no, I'd rather keep Mills. He's about one million and well worth it IMO.

I also think De Colo has some upside. He was a rookie last year. The kid is a 6' 5" PG. I think Pop would prefer that he just figures it out.

It's possible. With Marion and Carter there though I don't know. I guess they could screw us.

Same thing. I'd be fine with keeping Patty as a 3rd PG but I think I'd rather have Billups. He hasn't been able to stay healthy but he's still been pretty darn good out there when he is. (The point was to shed the extra Million that Patty makes to be able to offer more to AK though.)

I think Cory deserves to be primary backup PG though to start the season and the job should be his. He's the one with the most upside out of the group IMO.

Mills is a slightly worse version of Gary Neal. Bad defender, streaky shooter, can't create for others. Love me some Patty though.

We are in 'hot pursuit' of K-Mart apparently.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Neal get a very nice offer from someone. He's a unique scorer IMO. He could goto a bad team average 20+ pts a game.

Don't we have enough people that don't show up in the playoffs?

Spurs come to an agreement to sign Jeff Pendergraph.

So I guess our roster is pretty much set now, assuming we don't match Gary Neal's contract or amnesty Bonner.

Pendergraph seems like a Blair replacement. Not bad, he's bigger and seems to have a jumper. This still leaves us with a gaping hole behind Kawhi though. We have 4 PGs (Parker, CoJo, Nando, Mills), 3 SGs (Green, Manu, Belinelli, the latter two who can handle the ball), and 6 big men (Duncan, Splitter, Diaw, Baynes, Bonner, Pendergraph). We can use Green and Manu as backup 3s against smaller teams, and Diaw can handle that duty some as well, but it would be nice to have a true SF on the bench.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do amnesty Bonner and move one or both of Nando or Mills to sign a SF, even if it's someone not named Kirilenko.

Keep in mind two things.

1. The Spurs just hired an assistant from Indiana who's primary role was to work with Indiana's big men.

2. Hopefully this is a minimum contract and not part of the MLE. I guess well see. If it's a minimum contract than I think it's a solid signing.
Sher Thing

On the other hand, if they gave him MLE money that means they must be really high on him and maybe Bonner or Diaw is on the move.
West Texan

I'll be really upset if Diaw is on the move. The versatility he brings when he's on the court is really tough to match. Not too many guys can guard Zach Randolph and Lebron James effectively.

This move is obviously the work of Boylen. He must be really high on the kid.

quote:
"Boylen’s main duty is working with the Pacers’ big men, and he’s been given some of the credit for helping develop Roy Hibbert into an All-Star. Indiana coach Frank Vogel is extremely complimentary of Boylen.

His per 36-48 minute numbers are pretty impressive and Indiana was actually better offensively and defensively last season when he was on the court lol. Just hoping this is deal for the minimum and not apart of the MLE.

He had pretty good numbers per 36 this past season. He's also a pretty good defender looking at his advanced statistics. Watching a quick highlight of him on youtube and he runs the floor well. As mentioned, we hired Boylen from Indiana where he was the bigs coach, so I'm sure he's probably high on this kid as an end of the rotation type.

He's got solid size also. He's in the mold of a Darrell Arthur or Udonis Haslem type. I like the way he looks tbh. Better than Blair and Bonner IMHO.

Lets just hope we amnesty Bonner now.
