I just think they believe they can bluff their way out again, as that has been the case for decades. You do not move this volume of air defenses into the region unless you are preparing for serious Iranian retaliation.

These air defense transfer flights have been running for 2 to 3 weeks. That kind of timeline only makes sense if planners expect sustained retaliatory strikes… https://t.co/3YexxhU6rb
What I don't believe is that we are doing all of this just to negotiate another faux promise not to build a nuke weapon.
It's what happens after the strikes that matter, and it took us 4+ months both times we attacked Iraq to build up forces. I don't think it will take that long 'this time' but it's only been around a month or so, for this (hopefully air) operation to get systems into place. Of course, we're not really moving ground forces (which is good) but we are also building continuously intelligence as to what they are moving/saying/doing during this process, something else the 'negotiation' pratter helps with.
It makes sense Trump is listening to the Pentagon folks about what they are planning/can do/need before ordering the actual strikes, knowing he is the one who is going to be getting briefed on 'what went wrong' the minute SHTF. It's very, very easy to anticipate MSM Propaganda headlines of 'American pilot captured' and 'Iranian civilians killed in strikes' or 'Pentagon warned more Air Defense assets needed before Trump ordered strikes' once it begins. There are still Vindman/Ciaramella-traitors within the halls of the Pentagon (and about town, not just on the Hill), no doubt, and they know folks like that were never penalized/punished for their sedition.

We also had a bunch of land forces involved, and activated national guard/reserves for Iraq which is not the case here. Because we don't want to repeat the aftermath:Quote:

Heck, the Brits alone sent 45K to toss out Saddam too. They couldn't fathom sending more than 5K today, and Starmer is resigning shortly.
Some of this is just not analogous to the two Iraq wars is my point.
